Anders, I wanted to let you know that you’ve single-handedly got me into cocktails. I used to be a beer-drinker, then became a wine drinker, then started watching your videos by accident recently and have been addicted since. You’re the best at what you do. I just ordered my first cocktail making kit (Boston shaker and bar spoon, mainly) so thank you 😃 PS I chose this video specifically because you introduced me to the Negroni and it’s now my favourite thing on this planet.

I just tried my first home made negroni. A little tip for other cocktail newbies like me - the orange is a game changer. If you think it's a bit to sharp/medicinal, then and a bit more orange zest. It seems to bring it all together.

Cocktails can be a memory trigger. I long to sit again at a restaurant on the Piazza Navona. To enjoy a Negroni. To engage in conversation with other diners. To appreciate the play of the setting sun on the terra-cotta pastel of the surrounding buildings.

Anders - the Cocchi is a game-changer! I've been trying to get into this cocktail with varied success. I've had Campari for all of them. I've tried several vermouth brands, as well as Gins. An Americano is my favorite drink when I don't know what to have - I usually make it in a highball though, an ounce or so each of vermouth and Campari and top it off with way more soda - so I can drink it for a longer time and stil balance the booze intake. Another lovely variation, albeit a bit more sweet is swapping soda water for a good pink grapefruit soda and throwing a grapefruit twist on top - I find the zestyness of the pink grapefruit works really well in this spec, and makes for a wonderful brunch drink.

Anders - very nice video. I live in West Africa, so I don’t come across fancy red vermouth option that often. Americano is my favorite daytime drink at the end of a warm day. I usually add a dash of freshly squeezed orange juice and a ton of soda water in a collins glass. Makes the taste subtle while allowing you to drink a few without jeopardizing the rest of the evening 😜

2 1 1 is the way to go! I tried it for the first time today and it's nothing like the camparis I've had before. I've found that the vermouth was too dominant in the original recipe, though, rather than Campari. This recipe is rather more refreshing and has a much more interesting flavour. The bitterness of campari, now more pronounced I feel, lends a nice background to the more forward botanicals in the gin. I skipped the orange zest before tasting it and decided to go without it at all. A bit clearer than the original version, I think it looks prettier too! I have been ginger towards this cocktail in the past, but with this recipe, it landed straight amongst my favourites. Cheers!

I've seen other recipes that don't have the sweet vermouth. I think that third of an ounce really kind of rounds out the Campari and Mr. Black which can be a little too bracing and bitter without it. When I tried it without the sweet vermouth I thought it was an "interesting" cocktail, but with I thought it was good and interesting!

Man, beautiful textbook classics there. Nice work! But the idea that Aperol can be substituted in these drinks doesn't sit right with me. If Campari hasn't clicked with someone yet I usually recommend working up to these drinks with things like a Campari spritz or a Negroni Spagliato. Notwithstanding the fact that if I tried to order an Aperol negroni here in Italy I might be asked to leave the country, a 1:1 substitution would be a mistake, and result in a drink that was far too sweet. John Gertsen's recipe seems to fix this, by switching out the sweet vermouth for dry-and I'll definitely be giving it a try.

Lighter than a Negroni without the Vermouth, and Oh So Orangey! The syrup just takes the edge of the bitterness.

I was happy to see that you make the Negroni with more gin -- I make what I call a "3-4-5 Negroni" -- 30ml Campari, 40ml vermouth and 50mil of Gin. Another tasty variation is to make it with barrel-aged Genever. The part with the truck in the ally really took me back -- I lived in Chicago when I was a student and (of course) my apartment was on an ally - next to a bar. Many interesting conversations overheard in that ally on summer nights when the windows were open and the bar patrons would retire to the ally to have a smoke of one sort or another.
