I spent 2 years preparing my house to sell in St. Louis so I could move to sunny Florida. Nobody believed I was serious because it took me 2 years and because everyone knows I don't have much money. Today, I am typing this from SUNNY FLORIDA. It is the coldest month of the year (February) and I am toasty warm... might have to turn on the air conditioner. I used to think my grandfather was a weirdo because he's a "prepper". @@ale347baker I should mention I live with him as a kind of helper. I take care of the huge yard, shop and cook all the meals, laundry ect. I live upstairs and he lives in the sub level mother in law suite.. I don't ask for payment I do it because he's a good guy and needs help. He prepped enough supplies to support a 6 person family for about a year without restock.. Seeing as how I am both family, and his primary caretaker he enjoys sharing his cache of goodies, and would rather me save the money in not buying my own.. Know the situation before you jump to conclusions..... Learn a lesson..

It's not only the cost of replacing items but also saving sentimental things and the hassle of dealing with insurance companies, the time for the building to dry out, finding people to redecorate, remember it's not only the big tv that gets damaged everything has to be thrown out from furniture to the kitchen. Finding people to check the electrics and redecorate takes time especially when tens or hundreds have been affected at the same time. A wise investment.
