This is the song I listen to when I feel like I’m drowning. For me it’s not about a relationship or anything. It’s about the pressures of life and how to catch up so damn fast. How I feel like I’m a burden how I want to disappear. Sleepless nights seem so much more easy with this. This song means so much to me and has been when me forever and I hope it stays that way.

The way the guitars, the ethereal-sounding synthesizers, the drums swamped in reverb, and the singers voice mix together create one hell of a great sound. These guys definitely stand alone with their own style/creativity. That's why I like em so much. No one else really sounds like them.

This whole album reminds me of the good old times. Back when i first listened to NBHD i was hooked instantly. Back then i had the most beautiful girlfriend, my family was healthy and happy, my studies went really great and i had a ton of good friends. Fastforward a few years, the love of my life left, my father committed suicide which left my family in ruins, i have a shitty job and because of that i cannot afford living alone so i have to live in my moms basement and im friendless. Hearing these songs just pulls me back to those days when i was genuinely happy.

@vvampiregutz4 жыл бұрын
The Neighbourhood used to be my favorite band. eventually, i met someone who also was a fan, we used to listen to all these songs together, like LITERALLY all the albums. we dated for like 3 years, he was very abusive and toxic, our relationship felt to me like i was constantly drowing, i used to listen to this song everytime we fought. it's been a few years (probably one or two) that we finally broke up, and here i am, crying like a baby while i'm singing along the whole lyric of this song. even tho i don't love him no longer, every single time i remember him, i get the same feeling of drowing. in conclusion, don't fall in love with anyone that does love The Nbhd, bcs i promise you all, when the time comes and you break up, it will fucking hurt, and you won't be able to listen to your favorite band, cause every song, every fucking lyric will remind you of them. sorry for the typos and my bad english, i'm brazilian.

I have great visions and scenes in my head to this song. Never understood why they always talked about the beach so much.. but I've reached the conclusion that the beach is a beautiful wonderful place people vacate to. To get away. To ignore their problems. And maybe that's why the neighborhood uses it as such great symbolism.

It's the end of summer and you're at a beach with your friends. As everyone starts to pack you wander off with your headphones and your phone. You find yourself on the boardwalk. Empty. You lay down and plug your headphones in. People are looking for you but it gets drowned out by waves crashing and the beats echoing, slowly drifting off as the sun sets.

this music is about an abusive relationship in wich both the people inside it are avoiding to see beneath the surface of "the beach" in wich they are, and that's why he's saying "just don't look underneath us", they are pretending not to see all the wrong facts going on in the ambient... it may seem obvious but I took a long time to figure this out lol. amazing song, amazing band.

This song represents me (and most other people today). With how in the video, it slowly fades away from the island with the palm trees, it gives the representation of what anxiety\social anxiety\depression feels like. Like if you can't swim back, and you have no choice but to let it go and float away.
