There’s barely any difference - there’s no major differences between these two 💩s other than the 6.8 having a shorter stroke. Just means HP/TQ will be shifted to the right (on a dyno graph). The 6.2 Boss was a much better basic engine and it should have been the basis for a larger cube (6.9-7.3 liter) Cammer. A large cube Boss would have offered much better performance than the lackluster Godzilla
@brianb-p6586 Жыл бұрын
@@BC08 That's not true at all. From Ford's published specifications: 6.8L Gas V8: 405 HP @ 5,000 rpm, 445 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm 7.3L Gas V8: 430 HP @ 5,500 rpm, 485 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm The smaller engine peak torque is lower, and the peak is at the same speed as the larger engine. The smaller engine's peak power is lower, and that peak is actually at a lower speed than the larger engine. The shorter stroke does not shift the torque or power to higher engine speed. The 6.8 is about 7% smaller in displacement, and has about 6% lower peak power and 8% lower torque, so output is essentially proportional to displacement.
@BC08 Жыл бұрын
@@brianb-p6586 Based on your numbers the 6.8 peak torque rpm is not lower, it is the same. Take the the same top end (cylinder heads, intake manifold and camshaft), reduce stroke (thereby reducing displacement) and the power band shifts higher every time. This is basic physics. So what’s happening here is Ford could be reporting HP at an arbitrary RPM (like 5000) to differentiate peak outputs between the 6.8 and 7.3 or they put a smaller duration cam in it since based on all accounts the cylinder heads and intake are the same. And before you ask why Ford would under-report peak HP to differentiate engine options, they did it with the 5.0. Twice. They would report the peak HP of the 5.0 truck engines @ 5500 RPM and 5750 RPM. We can look to numerous dyno graphs of stock Gen 1 and 2 5.0 truck engines not making peak HP until 6200-6300 RPM on dynos. Why would they do this? To give the 3.5 EcoBoost - a higher cost option - more peak HP on paper.

When did 6.5ft bed become “standard?” 8 ft is standard, 6.5 is short bed.
@wildbill23c Жыл бұрын
Most people buying these trucks never use them as a truck anyhow, so bed length don't mean anything. At least the 6-3/4 foot bed is still usable unlike many of today's 5 foot and shorter beds.
@zackzander425 Жыл бұрын
Every truck should have an 8’ bed. Anything less is a bitch boy truck.
@wildbill23c Жыл бұрын
@@zackzander425 Every truck should also have only 2 doors, and manual windows and locks, and manual transmission and transfer case, with manual locking hubs....keep it simple, less crap to break...problem is most buyers today don't keep a vehicle long enough to realize how all the electronics and electrical add-ons effect the reliability of a vehicle....when windows don't work, locks don't work, etc. it creates multiple problems with not only driveability, but in some cases multiple systems in today's vehicles are effected when 1 thing stops working LOL. Although, my 88 F250 is the Lariat, and the power windows actually quit working last year, I can still fix them...I do have the extended cab, but have the 8 foot bed...parking in tight spaces becomes a fun chore, but it can be done for sure. I also have the 460 with the C6 automatic...tows great, but it must visit every gas station it runs across LOL. Many of the trucks you see running around today have 5 foot or shorter beds....well I guess that is ok, if you just buy half a 2x4 LOL. But yep, I prefer the 8 foot beds...a 10 foot would be even better at times, but the only way to get something like that is in a utility bed type configuration in the aftermarket.

Let's be honest, Ford didn't make the 6.8 to have a lower priced option. They made it so they could charge more for the 7.3. I'm sure the difference in cost to manufacture is minimal between the two.
@holeshot1721 Жыл бұрын
What are you talking about. If they wanted to charge more they would have just kept the already great 6.2 gas nd not spent millions engineering an all new 6.8 liter

@@holeshot1721 they said it’s practically the same engine as the 7.3 but with a shorter stroke. I’m sure it was a relatively inexpensive development and having more shared parts Vs the 6.2 will be be better financially in the long run. I don’t blame them, they are a business after all.
