Listen, this isn't my favorite looking car of all time, but compared to almost everything else out there right now, it has so much more character, connection to it's predecessors, and overall thematic consistency. I saw one for the first time the other day, and I felt something that I very rarely feel about brand new cars: deep respect. It's the same feeling I get when I see a 300ZX, or a skyline GTR. This car feels much more grounded in reality than it's peers. It isn't trying to be anything other than exactly what it needs to be, and everything about it reflects that. Bravo to Nissan, they clearly found a way to channel that vintage Nissan passion. I hope to drive one someday.

This car is a stunning departure from the norm in the automotive world. It doesn’t look like a spaceship or some horrific modern art like so many other offerings and the power train seems competent and targeted to the people who will actually buy it. I'm sorry I'm a Z fan, had a 370z (before it was totaled a month ago) and this car is just an insult. 370z was 35-45k CAD MRSP and this is 70k+. Okay, I undersand we've had a lot of inflation over the last few years but they didn't even completely renew the car. Look at the interior, the center console, door interior, etc are all pulled right out of the 370z. They charge you practically double the price and can't even update what was already a old car (2009-2022). It's actually quite insulting. I've literally only seen one since it's come out. The sales are going to be even more dogshit than the 370z's were. It's also turbo charged so it's not even a Z anymore. I'd rather them go electric rather than forced induction.

@@theonetruerobb4852 Depends where you are. I live in the Chicago area, and while laser measurement is reportedly used in Illinois, I've never had my detector (currently a high-end Escort) trigger on laser. It may well not be very good at it at all, true. But, even if it isn't, there's still plenty of Ka used around here (and even the occasional K). I have only ever had one laser ticket, and it was over a decade ago in Texas. I'd probably have a couple radar tickets a year, at least, if I weren't using a detector. There's still plenty of value in being able to detect radar, especially Ka.

Florida highway patrol uses Ka almost exclusively. So do many local departments. I drove to Atlanta last weekend and there was a mix of Ka and I did get lasered 3 times on the trip. So it really depends on where you are. I drive I-75 in Florida mostly and my top line Uniden saves my butt all the time picking up Ka usually a mile or more away. But like I said, Georgia is a different ball game. Tons of Laser and just way more patrols than I EVER see in central Florida.

Reliability, build quality, resale value, did I mention reliability because it can’t be stressed enough, goofy Nissan spaceship stying, etc all lead to choosing a Supra. Love this new Z. No fake vents or any “try hard” all show no go features. The design is simple, modern, yet still iconically a Z with elements of old. It shares the platform with another car but that other car is still a nissan rather than some other manufacturer. And it comes with a manual right off the bat rather than waiting several years after launch to drop in the manual making the people who cashed out for the earlier models feel pranked. I certainly would not have thought nissan would be capable of making a nice sports car after the novelty of the r35 wore off.

I love both companies vehicles for a variety of things, though also hate JDM not designing their own stuff, which happened with the Engine of the BM..err GR Supra and also the new NSX, completely American. Sucks cuz the original was one of my favorite cars, I can even like the hybrid, but it looks like a malgamation of American and European modern super cars, pointy and bland, where the OG NSX was legendary, influenced tho cars but stayed Japanese designed. Easily one of the prettiest cars ever made. Anyone from any generation would assume that thing is fun to drive. That rear-end especially is so timeless.

It's so hard to recreate the retro styling due to modern safety regs ( not complaining because I like not dying) and this thing really nails the balance of retro modern style. And it's nice that they also kept it at a price point that makes it cheap and fun just like the old Z cars.

I agree 100% on the clutch situation. I can’t stand a really springy clutch or one that’s really stiff. I would much rather have a soft push with just a touch of spring. But I guess that’s preference

Hey. The voltmeter is definitely useful. Wish I had one of those before I left on a roadtrip and had to replace my battery in a parking lot. Not a huge deal but definitely more of a pain than doing it in my garage.

How would the volt meter tell you the battery is faulty in a useful way? It would be charging at 13.0 to 14.4v when the engine is running, even with a weak battery. Unless the charging system itself is faulty or you spend time in the car without the engine running and watching the volt meter (even then, it can still start and run when low on voltage anyway!)... otherwise it's a totally useless gauge on a modern car.

I really enjoy all these little easter eggs these manufacturers have been adding. I finally took delivery of my Ford Bronco about 3 months ago and there's a bunch of them throughout the vehicle. It's a great nod to the heritage these vehicles have.

As for the chrome/silver trim piece above the doors, Nissan designed that to resemble the shape of a Japanese Katana. This explains why the piece doesn't extend to the hatch.

Finally, some reviewers are getting to drive the Z. I appreciate Doug's critiques and raves. The critiques seem valid, and that makes his raves even more worth listening to. If he likes it in spite of a crappy sound, that makes me all the more interested in trying one out. Now - when will they actually start getting some to dealerships in sufficient quantity for potential buyers to test drive them???

You are not going to see many of these on dealerships lots because it's a niche model and dealerships hate wasting space on their lots for stuff like this. So will you find one, yes especially in a major city, but if you live anywhere else then it will be much tougher.
