The New Adventures of He-Man aired for the first time on British television the same time as the network premiere of Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man (Christmas Eve 1990).

Yeah, I was there, recording that very same broadcast - I remember it vividly because, oddly, ITV used a still image of Filmation's He-Man (from the episode "Orko's Return") as their ad break title card! :)

I found this show off at the time as a legit follow-up but have grown to appreciate it to the point that I wish it got more love. I would say it's a better follow-up than anything Netflix or the 2002 series did. It replaced the cool fantasy with cool sci-fi yet it had very tight continuity for its 65 episode run.

The New Adventures of He-Man may not be to everyone's taste...I get that - But the continuity in this show, compared to all others, is insane! :)

If I recall correctly, the UK Masters of the Universe Adventure Magazine (renamed He-Man Adventure Magazine), did actually address this stating that with He-Man and Skeletor gone, the new leaders were Man-At-Arms...and (I think) Tri-Klops! :)

By the powers at Artmic, they did a pretty decent job all things considered, err I mean THEY HAD THE POWER!!!! :D Seriously though, I appreciate the detail here. Of course you and I James felt betrayed back in the day, but now I've come to appreciate this show for what it did, including this, Prince Adam revealing his secret to his parents and kudos to them for recreating the original Filmation designs for King Randor and Quen Marlena, the way they have. :) By the way, I'm sure you didn't mean to say "Prince Adam reveals the secret" twice. :D

It's just a shame they didn't keep the thing about Marlena knowing that Adam is He-Man.

Yeah, I adore The New Adventures of He-Man, but 1) I didn't care for it until about three years after it first aired, and 2) I can completely understand why people don't like it! :)

Aside from the animation which was just ok, the main thing I did not like is that they significantly depowered He-Man in this series...

Even tough I love this series, I wholeheartedly agree that they did indeed de-power He-Man - I would say that, to make up for this, they actually increased his psychic abilities...plus the Sword of Power was now more of a weapon than before! :)

@@cerealgeekTV yeah I remember that. The sorceress said "you're learning the power of the good and the way of the magic" . I remember him doing a "Jedi mind trick" on one of his enemies once and the Sorceress commented on it. Wasn't he able to teleport from space back to Primus the first episode?! Oy. And don't even get me started on the The "power sword" even in the cartoon, it still looked like a toy... Look closely at the hilt of the sword and you'll see that it looks like the head of the vehicle team Voltron... 😂
