Joshua and Rachael, what a beautiful cake! I really like the watercolor-painting look that it has. I loved seeing the two different interpretations of the geode cake (paint or cutout) and also the different methods making the agate (so we know which one would work better). Enjoyed the interaction and appreciation shown to each other between you guys too! 😊 Maybe make an Impressionist cake as a follow-up to this one? 🎨🤔😊

The Right fondant doesn't taste terrible! Renshaw brand fondant tastes like a Krispy Kreme donut! No lie! Besides that, the fondant is not meant to be the flavor of the cake. It is the décor...like the rock candy. The flavor should come from your icing, fillings and cake itself.

When you order a cake, you can politely ask them to not use fondant, instead of just pretending like your tastebuds are law.

You may only have tasted brands of fondant that are meant for decorations only and not to be eaten. Those brands can put a "bad taste" in the mouth of anyone who hasn't had professional high end brands of fondant. Brands like Renshaw are soft, smooth and taste very good. They are designed to be eaten, but are meant to enhance your cake flavor, not to be the only flavor. Your cake and your icing underneath the fondant are meant to be the star of the show.
