It's most likely a sunk cost issue. They probably had a team of engineers working on this for a long period of time, and people don't work for free. So while the materials and manufacturing is inexpensive, they're trying to recoup the costs of all the work on the front end. That being said, no one in their right mind is going to spend $2500 for a ball they don't have to put air in, while ball pumps cost like $10. This isn't saving anyone anything.
@oriontigley508910 ай бұрын
Even with the sunk cost of R&D, having a huge retail price tag is a stupid strategy. @@fumoffu_l If you want to recoup the costs of Capital, then you spread said costs over quantity. I believe they had to create special 3D printers just to make these things, and it takes like 2-3 days to print 1. Plus you have to factor in the R&D costs. Let the infrastructure get up to speed, and the market take over, and it'll drop significantly over time.

I would wonder how on longer shots how it would compare with the trajectory and spin of a regular ball. It seems that it would be less subject to wind in some ways, as wind might go through it, but also the holes would create slight drag with spin? With dribbling, I see how it would work quite similarly, but a long pass or deep shot seems like it would certainly be discernibly affected. I’m sure that other companies will find a way to make a product much cheaper over time, too.
