The "New" Airpods Max Release in 2024

Airpods Max coming out in 2024 alongside the new iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro max seem to have been almost forgotten about when it comes to keeping the these apple headphones in line with the upgrade that go for the new iPhone.

I'm very hesitant to get the AirPods Max again, whether it be the lightning or the USB-C version, I got the lightning one, but is now dead just after two years of use and no option to get repairs, just basically the most expensive garbage I own at this point.

I bought the AirPods Max (Lightning) right when they launched 12/2020 for the $549 USD. A few months ago (5/2024), just the right ear cup died and I paid $325 USD for an out-of-warranty repair through the Apple Store's Genius Bar. The ironic thing is that I did have AppleCare+, but that expired after 24 months (12/2022). I tried to justify the cost as I use my AirPods Max every single day (probably a 90% / 10% split with my AirPods Pro 2.

The wired connections that I have tried haven't worked, and there hasn't been a way that I can find that would support it. I feel like this would be the device to have it if any.

It can not play lossless audio. Almost any Bluetooth headphones can.

Yes there’s a built in dac but it can’t reproduce loosless audio playback even with wired connections you could get a higher quality audio tho .

Do they connect to a MacBook via any USB-C to USB-C cable? In the previous version, a special Lighting Audio Cable was released, but now there is no such thing

Yes wondering that too. Also wondering if plugging them in via USB-C makes a difference in sound? Can you tell a difference for lossless?

From the wired connections I have tried, they don't seem to work (like using the cable for the lightning airpods max with a lightning to usb adapter etc) I am starting to wonder if the usb c port even supports audio on these.

yeah, I agree they are sliiiiiightly bassier but only good buy if all the affordable 1st gen options are scams... which is why I decided to bag them also, contrary to my fears, midnight looks absolutely stunning and not too blue

Apple is a tech company. Change and innovation is kind of the point. They’re still good headphones, but Apple should have at least dropped the price on these.

That's unnaceptable. My APM started failing after 6 months, but the service support denied repairs cause they weren't able to reproduce the issue (of course, you have to use it for 3 hours until it builds up sweat internally), and after 13 months, they fully failed (amber light of death). The fact they did not structural changes to address says a lot about the type of company Apple became. It's all shameful, phones with no features with a promise of software improvements, lazy incremental updates, lazy apple watch redesigns... I bought a new house, and boy, I don't see myself investing in the Apple ecosystem any longer
