The New Bachmann Thompson Teaks And running session.... No142

Very nice coaches. I was browsing your site, as I often do, and came across this video of four years ago. Unfortunately the Bachman coaches are beyond my purse strings but i have ten or more of the old Triang/Hornby Thompsons. I fitted new wheels, made internal fittings from plasticard and I've improved the 'Teak Look' on what would have otherwise been a drab plastic finish. Of course they still come nowhere near the Bachman coaches when it comes to detail but at just £5 each they were a bargain and it wouldn't have broke the bank if i had made a mess of them. Renovating and upgrading these old coaches of all kinds is very much part of the hobby i enjoy. Thanks for the video.

Hi Alfie. the price of these now have gone up even more, since i purchased these. but these where easy to upgrade the lighting. and the little people adds a nice touch. i must get these of the storage yard for a run around. the old Bachman Thompsons were not a bad model. but there were no interiors in them. sounds like you have done a great job on your set of Hornby Triang's. catch up at the weekend no doubt stay safe my friend. Hi Tony. Not normally a fan of teaks, but I'm impressed with these - pre-installed pickups is a great idea. Loved the "re-furbished" people and accessories - you must have the patience of a saint. Alan.

Hi Alan, the pick ups are a Brucie bonus, its a shame they have'nt done a restaurant car, maybe in the future. as for the little people it was a time out job while I considered what to do next on the layout. but yes taking your time is the key and using the smallest brush you have. and applying the paint very thinly.I still have a few left to do, last count around 50...thanks again Tony

Hiya Tony Great little running session. The new Thompson's look stunning models mate the wood grain affect on them look's amazing love all that detail on them. Nice of Bachmann to add the pick up's under the boogies that will make life a lot easier when adding lighting. took them long enough to get them out but it looks to be well worth the wait. Cheer's Pete. Bachmann have always done well there rolling stock, especially with all the manufacturers catching up with there detailing. I'm glad they took so long so I could save up for them. they where due to come out in January this year. they offer 5 different coaches which is good if you want to make up full rake.. the restaurant car is the only one missing....best wishes Tony

Yes Bachmann have as you done a cracking job I was pleasantly surprised with the pickups and tabs for the cables. I think these will creep up in price now which wouldn't surprise me....thank you for commenting regards Tony

Hi Susannah the coaches do look a bit to clean, maybe I will weather at some point, another little job. do you remember we were discussing putting shallow groves in the track to add more clacking along the rails. but finding a very thin cutter for the Dremell is like looking for a needle in a haystack at the moment.i di manage to find some but haven't arrived yet, I will let you how I get on. so I hope you have a great time in Portsmouth this weekend. don't spend to much money lol. best wishes Tony

Hi Jerry mate. they would great on your layout too, you certainly have the motive power for them...the Hornby Night Hawk I had right from the start. she is second hand DCC fitted. she runs well. at some point I will have to look at changing the centre coupling maybe put in a plug connection.. Hi Richard I have to agree with you on that one, the Hornby ones are good but the Bachmann ones are slightly better. and the best feature is having the pick ups ready for internal lighting. thanks for commenting very much appreciated regards Tony

Very nice coaches Tony , just a pity that they do not come with lights after fitting the pick ups , all getting very pricey these days think the Hornby one is £50 or more now ... I have the cheap Hornby ones and just added a bit of colour ... Dave

Hi Dave to true about the price of rolling stock. £46.00 each for the Bachmann teaks although I saved up for them they are worth the money in my opinion. Hattons are selling second hand Hornby Teaks the new type for £50+. I did watch your video on how you changed the colour of your Railroad Version and they turned out great, especially when you added the little people as well....all the best Tony
