Thanks for the vid ! by the way your "getto" style of removing and installing headsets gave me the confidence to try it myself and it works fine, can't thank you enough. I used to take a new frame up to Halfords and they would inevitably scratch the frame I even mummified a frame in cardboard once and they still managed to scratch it. Now I do a new build from home , happy days !!

I just bought a diamond back 3 c. I had my first ride with it. It feels so much different than my carbon hardtail. I feel like the full suspension is holding me back from bunny hopping. Even with a fox 36 on both my bikes.

Beautiful bike! Thanks for the review. I am looking to buy my first "serious" mountain bike and have narrowed it down to the Specialized Chisel hardtail or the new Stumpjumper. Nice to get a thorough look at the Stumpy and glad to see you're happy with it.

Try before you buy if you can! I bought the Mantra last year after I got a really really good demo on it with a local shop who literally let me take it out for an hour to do whatever. The demo's I did this year gave me an idea of what groupset and gear I wanted and the bike came after. I'll have a lot of fun on it when I'm back to full health!

Nice Bike!Setup is key,but it can take a little long to figure out with your first bike. But once you know what you want it is very good. Most common setup mistake I see (I work guiding people on the trails) is shock too hard and forks too soft. Take a good sag measurement like 25-30%. If the shock it too hard it would ruin the feel of the forks,it would dive and move up&down too quick. Try to use all the shock travel in a regular ride,if you go crazy and bottom out form time to time is not a problem. Any trail-enduro bike is made to be very fast downhill,it may feel not so optimized to flat trails or just to pedal like a hardtail,that mean setup must done with downhill performance in mind to make the bike work 100%. It took me long time to realize those simple questions.Nice videos!

Thanks for that. It definitely needs some fine tuning still. Not quite as simple as a hardtail eh?!

Hi! I have a question, after riding a hardtail on a downhill track for about a year, I am thinking of getting a decent full suspension bike and I was wondering (I'm still gonna buy it, but I gotta ask) did it give you more confidence to try harder jumps and enter corners faster? Thanks!

Oh yeh! So much so I ruined my shoulder on the second ride haha. I'd demo'd a few before and it was amazing how much a full sus does for you. At OPA I tried some and went sailing through the air much easier than I did on a hardtail.

Hi, I'm about to start "doing up" a Diamond back Ascent bike and I reckon I'll probably need a new headset, I've looked on eBay but either I'm asking the wrong question or there aren't many around. I was wondering who you use when ordering stuff from eBay and if you've got a favourite online store. Hope you don't mind me asking but I seem to be going round in circles on my own. Love the vids especially when thing don't go as planned but you still show your mistakes, I don't think I would enjoy it as much if it was too slick.

A new headset? Sure. My Ascent uses a 1 1/8" threaded headset. There's loads around. You could even go threadless but then you'd have to upgrade the forks and headset too. If the stem is 25.4mm diameter then the headset is 1 1/8"

MonkeyShred, many thanks, I'm really looking forward to making a start on the bike👌

MonkeyShred , Hi again, I've just measured the stem on my Diamondback Ascent and its 1" is this normal? Could I use a BMX headset?
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
How old is this Ascent? Where exactly did you measure the 1”?
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
Oh wait, I've re-read that now. If you measured the STEM itself then yes, 1" or 25.4mm is correct for the STEM. That will make the headset 1 1/8". That should also mean the steer tube diameter is 28.6mm external. If you had a 1" setup you would have a 22.2mm STEM and a steer tube diameter of 25.4mm external.

What are your height and weight, and what frame size do you use? I am 5'8” and 163 pounds (1,73m and 74kg), What size of carbon Stumpjumper frame should I get?

I really wanted that one! The guy was an ass. He looked through my eBay and came out with "Oh you must be a professional so the bike wouldn't interest you anyway" It was the PERFECT project. I haven't found another since.
