I hope your Africa Twin has been good to you over the past year and you have found all of the features such as the heated grips. It looks like a good choice for your young senior citizen adventures. I have similar adventure aspirations. I'm 61 and I want to ride back roads and do some ultralight wilderness camping. I like smaller bikes so I chose the G310GS and have been very happy with it. I added Apollo Koso heated grips and they're awesome. I'll never have a bike without heated grips. I'm eager to see what Honda does with their upcoming TransAlp reboot. I suspect it'll be a slightly smaller version of the Africa Twin to compete with the Tenere 700, but I wish they'd make a much lighter and much simpler (and much less expensive) version of the Africa Twin - an "Africa Single", with 450-650 cc engine, a very large fuel tank, large rear rack, switchable ABS, decent suspension, tubeless tires and legendary Honda reliability.

Thank you so much for watching! It turned out, I accidentally ended up with both the AT and a CRF 250L for more technical stuff. In *theory* I can outfit it with a rackless system if I choose to go lightweight and camp.

@@troutdogadventures7751 - I've always ridden smaller dual sport thumpers but I always wanted a small ADV bike, even before there were ADV bikes. We got ADV bikes in the 80s and in the last few years we finally got some decent small ADV bikes. I'm old enough now that my small ADV bike does everything I want to do, and has much more comfortable and polite road manners than my previous dual sport urban assault bikes. Still, I have a hankering for a CRF300L Adventure. If the 3.8 gallon tank was 5-6 gallons, it had a large rear rack, and Honda made it in black or gray instead of Honda Race Red, I probably couldn't help but buy one.

I've always had an offroad bike (currently a KTM 500EXC) but knew it's limitations for the exact kind of big bike touring you described. Small towns, secondary or dirt roads and nice scenery. After my 650 VStrom, I really wanted a T7 but other than a few Yamaha released into the wild right after their introduction, T7s are essentially unavailable. The AT was my second choice so the hunt was on. About a year ago, I found a really nice, low mile 17 DCT version for a great deal. Wasn't initially thrilled it was a DCT but have come to really enjoy it and the bike in general. You'll have many miles of enjoyment out of the AT, it's an awesome machine for what you want to do. As far as the cyclist, it's been said motorcyclist's ride like every vehicle is driven by an assassin actually trying to kill you and every cyclist rides like it's everyone's responsibility to watch out for them. Your encounter seems to support that view! Good luck and looking forward to your adventures.

I was the same - very hesitant about the DCT. Now, I absolutely love it. Love the MC/Bike attitude comparison.

Glad I found your channel, I have DRZ400 right now and want your bike after countless hours of research. If you don't in future videos, can you touch on the DCT?

I absolutely love the AT. While I don't have a huge amount of dirt time on it yet, I can say that it rides like a much smaller bike than it really is. Great video idea... spoiler alert - the DCT is awesome.
