How's the Aviary coming along? I haven't seen anything about that in a while. Also you can save that chicken manure that you're getting out of the omelette and let it accumulate in something and use it in your garden.
@williamrhea35354 жыл бұрын
Good idea but it has to mature otherwise it is too hot for most plants. But otherwise it is some of the best natural fertilizer you can possibly get. Oh, I just recalled, when I worked for a nursery we cooked the chicken manure with dirt to make a very fertile mixture.

Hello from Australia. The emus in the wild I have seen are in the outback and country areas which can be in drought many years at a time. It could be it is not instinctive for them to be in large amounts of water. Lots of birds use dirt as dust baths and water is just for drinking. Love your work by the way. Love and best wishes to your beautiful family.

@@SanderBauwens I have a wooden coop for my flock of 15 banties, similar in size and after 5 years it's still in good condition. I paid around $200 for it. It's 2 story and complete with slide out poop tray, lol!
@leahheapp4 жыл бұрын
Sander Bauwens I’m not disputing whether they are made well or not, they clearly are and that’s what makes them the price they are, but personally I would not pay that price for their products that are too small for my liking. I would much rather pay for something wooden that is twice the size and may have to be touched up here and there every couple of years. If they were a bit bigger, then I would 100% justify the price because clearly a lot more thought and effort goes into them than your general coop or hutch! ☺️ (a rabbit hutch by them is nearly £500 for me and it is barely enough room for the rabbit to even move round in. A rabbit should have no less than three hopping distance for the length of their cage, there’s looks like it could only fit one. For that price you could buy a very well made two-story custom hutch with a 7ft metal run... just some perspective on omlet’s prices..)
@faithhall47354 жыл бұрын
I've always felt like it is much more practical to make something yourself anyway. We have a 8 by 8 by 8 coop and it was mostly wood we already had plus a few extra 2 by 4s and plywood, maybe 50 dollars tops and big enough for dozens of free ranging chickens. It is very sturdy too, all wood but it should last at least 10 years. I have looked at omlet's guinea pig cages too, and it looks as though they could chew on the plastic. Our guinea pigs will eat anything and everything plastic, so we really have no option other than a metal and wood cage. Definitely overpriced compared to other options, and not the most realistic either.

Just a suggestion, but you might put some non-skid black tape on the rungs of the ladder. That metal looks too slippery! With their 5 toes, silkies would have a tougher time with that, plus mine never flew well enough to get up that high easily. They always roosted on the lower wider boards I put up for them.

@@SanderBauwens According to Murray McMurray, a very respected hatchery, this is their recommendation for bantams: "Bantams, being smaller, don’t need as much space per bird. This is one reason they are popular in backyard flocks. 2 square feet per bird is adequate if they are allowed daytime forage, so a 4′ by 8′ coop could house 16 bantams. " "We recommend a minimum of 5 square feet per bantam if they are kept confined, so a 5′ by 10′ coop could contain 10 bantams. " The dimensions of the Omlet coop is 3'3"L x 3'1"W x 2'2"H. I could not find any information on bantam headroom. Bantams average 9"-12" which means they have about 14"-17" headroom in the Omlet.
