This game is amazing.. iv beat it 20 plus times now over the decades and just found something new the other day. the 1st time you actually go to nibelheim (not karma flashback) if you to to a table in the corner of Tina's room you'll find a note confirming that all the people currently living there are indeed actors. awesome little details like this are what makes this game, still giving me wonder after all these years

I recently watched Alien Resurrection and noticed a huge resemblance between the movie and FF7. There's a mad scientist with a pony tail who always wears a white coat and there's an experimental subject with a tattooed number 8. There's 7 failed subjects too... Does it ring a bell? How come there's no threads about it online? Both the movie and FF7 came to market at the same year 🤔

So for the NG+ category I thought of something. It's allowed to load premade saves in NG+ right? If I understood correctly, all you would really have to do is get out of Midgar. It would go like this : - Play the game until out of Midgar onto the world map and save - Load a 1st premade save (NG+) with the timer and die - Load a 2nd premade save (NG+) with dead party and enter the correct fight to set the battle id - Load your save out of Midgar (the actual save of the run) and wrong warp - The end Am I missing something?

Funnily enough, I tried this route and it is slower than the current NG+_ route, because the old wrong warp setup for NG+ is so optimized. This route does work though.

this is so cool now I can go back into debug mode like I could on the ps1. however now that I have tested this more in the PC version of ff7 debug mode is busted then it is on the ps1. some features on the ps1 one version of the game like cutscenes viewer don't work on PC and softlocks the game. I don't understand why that is but now i need to do a full test between the two to see what works and what don't between the PC version and the ps1 version. I'm going to assume this trick will work on the PS4 Xbox switch and mobile since they are all based off the steam version of ff7.

3 questions, 1. Does it work on ps4? 2. Does it matter if the solo cloud which is dead is on a different save file than the save with the timer on it in the no. 1 reactor? and 3. Does the save file with the solo dead cloud have to be right out of midgar or can it be later in the game and still work?

Hey dude, do you know a method to start a new game+ using the debug room? I'd love to take my endgame party back to the start, I've tried numerous ways, always hit global reset in the lobby but I always run in to road blocks - like having your dress etc in key items when entering corneo's mansion seems to advance you straight to disc 2/3. Using the "new game" option with the yuffie in the lobby doesnt work, it locks cloud inside the train. There's multiple other points in the game that will play out but then when you go to proceed the game will behave as if you're revisiting the area so I'm not sure if global reset is affecting all of the event flags in the game. I've always wanted to new game+ FF7, I figured pc would be the place to do it!

i like to play slow and enjoy ever aspect of the game and get a 100% rating with no game overs - which was annoying when i died in Nortgern cave with L5 death because the enemy uses it and dies therefore finalattack -phoenix doesnt worl so i started again lol

Thinking of these bugs from a programming perspective, there were so many ways the devs could have prevented any of them from occurring. It is a wonder why they didn't plug any of them. One fix I can think of: First, instead of making Chocobos run away every time, make them stay until the Player catches a new one. Second, don't give the Player the ability to construct their own Party when leaving Midgar, force Barret and Tifa in the Party. Third, on every entry to the Mithril Mines, check if the Mines have been completed (i.e. set a flag when leaving the west exit for the first time). If that flag is OFF, check if Aerith is in the Party. If she is not, have Aerith say that she wants to be in the Party, remind the Player about going to Kalm for the flashback, then force-return the Player to the World Map (swamp side). The Chocobo would still be there, since they don't run in this version, so crossing back across the swamp is possible. The Player cannot progress through the Mithril Mines since Aerith is not in the active Party. The only way to get Aerith in the active Party is to complete the Kalm flashback and earn the PHS. Two simple changes and two quick flag checks and poof, Kalm flashback is unskippable, Chocobo bugs are impossible (unless I am missing something), and sequence breaking is plugged.

I hope this question will be taken as genuine, rather than invective. I would genuinely like to understand. What is the appeal of a speed-run which mostly amounts to NOT playing the game? If you love FF7 as much as we do, isn't it uninteresting to figure out how to not play the game?

Speedrunners do love the games they run, and they've played the game many times over to practice getting a good route. A lot of people speedrun for reasons to show skill, have a sort of challenge run, or a lot of other reasons. People don't try to learn to not play the game, but moreso learn to play the game very well. I hope this helps.

There are many categories in FFVII speedrunning, PC Any% is one of the shortest and most glitch filled. At any rate, it doesn't matter how much of the game is skipped, that doesn't reflect on the runners at all, most of them have played through the game hundreds of times, and still play through it all of the time. It is not like if a skip for cosmo canyon is found, every speedrunner never plays cosmo canyon again, lol. It is one trick, in one category, in a game that is casually played, speedrun, challenge run, modded, and more every day.

As fascinating as this whole process is... I have trouble calling this a "speedrun" anymore at this point. I mean I'm not some kind of "100% Single Segment Only" elitest but... when you use like 3 different save files, I think it's hard to call it a 'single playthrough'. Unless... you create all of those save files in the same session... but that isn't very fast, to say the least. No offense, I still respect it; Im just babbling about semantics. What even is a "speedrun?" Words man; we made'em up.

as far as i got it from this video it IS all in the same playtrough. you start new then save 1 at reactor. keep going then save 2 at choco farm/zolom. keep going then save 3 after calm skip. then you simple USE save 1 and 2, but you made all those 3 save files in the same "run". and yes i personally prefer glitchless runs too (just more interesting to watch imo), but that shouldn´t demerit the ingenuity and dedication for those people who completely dismantle and destroy games ^^

I'll admit my understanding of the video was a bit fuzzy, I thought when he mentioned "NewGame+" he was referring to materia smuggling or something but now that i think about it... the debug room skips the final boss, so why would you need materia? The way you explained it however was actually clearer than the video and in that case... I think that might be fair afterall. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Sorry if it wasn't completely clear in the video, but yes, all of these save files are made in the same game. In other words, the memory card is empty when you start the run.
