I'm surprised no one is mentioning that the title "God's of Melee" was born out of a primarily TEENAGE community with access to an even younger internet. Of course that shit was cheesy, that's what makes the concept so endearing and nostalgic. It was a bunch of kids who loved the game and when a handful of other kids were spanking everyone the most obvious titles became the mainstays. The King of Cali, The Gods of Melee, The G.O.A.T., etc. There weren't 30 year olds playing 15 year olds like today (Except maybe in New York, there were some early oldheads playing around there). Everyone was a bit closer in age in a very underdeveloped community. I think the New Gods is fine because it’s paying respect to the lineage and original spirit of the melee community and if you were to rebrand, it should be to something even more cheesy to double down on the absurdity that is and forever will be, the Melee community.
