I am retired RN/FNP 32 years. My piece of advice for newly graduate nurse. Don’t get overwhelmed. Take one day at time. Live with means. It’s not much you make but much you keep. Pay your student loan if you have any as fast as you can, start putting money aide for retirement, emergency fund, and investment.

Some nurses see hospitals as their end goal but I just want to shed some light on other opportunities in nursing. You also need to take into account your mental and physical stability when you work in hospitals. Home health in California pays 150-200$ per admission which takes 10-20mins, if you pick up 5 patients a day you can earn 1k a day. As a nurse, you have endless possibilities in this industry. Just find what gives you good money and stability in your life if you want to last for more than 10 years.

Hi everyone - thank you for the comments! Thank you Jason for sharing your knowledge and helping nurses get ahead 👌🏽. Also want to mention that I don’t work like this year around like some of my paystubs would suggest. I averaged 37 hours of work a week this year. There were a few months I didn’t pick up any extra hours at all working 24hrs a week. I used all my sick and Pto this year (25 days, and voluntarily took 2 weeks off work when census was low). Ca nursing has been great, not perfect.. definitely appreciative!

@oliverlikescheetos
@oliverlikescheetos 2 жыл бұрын
@@cutepinksocks Hi! I did 1 year of experience at a level 1 university hospital in NC prior to moving back home to CA. Your first year as a nurse will be challenging! I recommend looking at teaching hospitals with established new grad residency program if possible. The learning curve in ICU is higher due to the acuity. You’ll be studying a bit outside of work and familiarizing yourself with the ICU. Pros: solid experience, cons: I disliked my toxic manager, almost quit a few times. I stuck it out. My experience my first year made me a better nurse and I am thankful for it.

Nursing salary in CA is the best bang for your buck considering the amount of schooling, loans, and income as a new graduate. Pharmacist need 8 years of schooling (4 years undergraduate + 4 years for doctorate + 1-2 years additional for residency if wanting to work in a hospital). Average student debt is 250k plus and starting salary is 150k. Kaiser definitely pays the upper end for pharmacist in CA. Pharmacy directors range between 180k low end to 250k higher end. Inspiring me to create some content about pharmacists salary. I've been fully focused on real estate currently.

Now I'm contemplating if I should continue my Master's in CyberSecurity here in Northern California. I have a BSN RN degree currently, but I personally wanted to get a job where I am not stressed 24/7 mentally inside a hospital. Several of my co workers that has been working more 10+ years makes about $105 an hour. As inflation increases, we need more better paying jobs but personally in my opinion, in just 1 year and 5 months of being a ER nurse, the mental game is intense.

I am currently a Nurse Manager running psych ED making 140k per year, but I am switching to CCU staff nurse at city hospital for 84k per year. The decision came because I did not want to limit myself just to psych. I am seeing the CCU experience as a new opportunity to open more doors. Watching your videos helped me what i want to do which would be a aesthetic nurse. for now I thought about doing both jobs but i have to work five days a week as a manager, and work 3 12 hour shift as a night CCU nurse. I got the offer as a CCU nurse, would like to hear your feeback? Hopefully I am making a good decision.

These videos make me want to leave my job so fast 😂 I still want to get 1 year of experience, but man. My hospital thought they were doing us a “service” giving us a raise from $25.50/hr to $27.50/hr and we’re a 50+ bed ER. Edit: Yes GA nurses make low to mid 20’s. In South GA the smaller hospitals pay the lowest but the somewhat bigger hospitals down here pay upper 20’s and low 30’s

Oh my goodness, thats NA wages. I didn't know. RNs make so much more in west or PNW. With all the hard work that nurses do sorry that's crazy. Agencies pay alot more, maybe something to consider, best of luck!

I'm in GA and that TOTALLY depends on what KIND of nurse you are and WHERE in GA you are. My mother is just an LPN and is making around 50/hr. At one place she worked it was so bad that they were even paying her $400 a day and she was working only 3 day a week by choice. They wanted her to work more. There's a shortage in nurses right now. Also, we are North Georgia.... About 35 minutes from Downtown ATL!

Not all kaiser starts at $19. The kaiser in Southern Georgia starts $24 - $30. Mind you that's still not enough but all professional jobs pay less than California and New York due to lower cost of living. NURSES deserve respect and a better pay.

Which got me thinking about getting a BSN in 2 yrs. Teachers are paid very well in CA and that good Kaiser insurance is free 😊

It’s funny you mentioned that your an ER nurse that wants to go to the pacu. I was a full time ER nurse who now works full time in the pacu. My hospital allows us to float and pick up in the ER. Plus call time in pacu is automatic overtime 😛 if I come in and recover a patient for 1 hr I get paid for 4hrs overtime. Look into it.

This comment may get kicked out but here goes anyway. I will preface this comment by saying that I love being a Nurse. This is the most rewarding job I have had in my 30+ years of working. That being said, nursing can be extremely stressful, and I think that's across the board with all nursing jobs. It's nice to hear about nurses doing well financially and your channel is doing an awesome job of presenting that. But I still hear you guys talking about a lot of overtime. I'm 54 and have been a nurse for 14 years and I have no interest in working ANY overtime. I think anything over 40 hours for any person no less a nurse, is torture. I currently work Neuro ICU which is a whole nother level of kray because these patients can turn for the worst in a matter of seconds. I think there's a better way to be a nurse. Would love to come on the channel to discuss it. I have a link, but so as not to be spammy, I'll leave it out. Keep up the good work and I will definitely be subscribing to the channel. Thanks.

I agree with you on not wanting to work overtime. I burned myself out over the last few years from working too much overtime. I've settled on working 20 hours per week and I couldn't be happier.

I agree. This job is rewarding but brutal. It’s important that we enjoy the work we do and find a balance, too much of something can be bad. I also wouldn’t do OT at a high acuity trauma center or unit, it’s unsafe to me (I’ll start at Stanford icu soon). It really depends on the practice environment. Balance is key. As a perdiem, I hope to just work 2 days a week. It’s hard in this economy, and if we can front load some work to lighten future responsibilities so be it. Everyone has different tolerance for work. I’d rather do 1-16hr shift than come in to work 3 separate days to make the same pay.

Nurses make about 70k a year. These people are targeting unionized hospitals with strange OT regs in high tax areas. The people being interviewed are not the norm in nursing.

Just found your channel and I also work for KP, but in the PNW. I am dumb-struck that a nurse with 2 yrs experience makes $15/hr more than one with 34 yrs of experience! Great for you both, but super disheartening for me. AND our Kaiser big-wigs believe I'm over paid (and the rest of our nurses). Even our union dues are the same. Birthday day off?! I think I'll be sending a message to our union folks!
