I was at the Apple Genius Bar a few days ago to get my iPad fixed. While I waited, I played around with the 15 models and I noticed that one in particular was running SUPER hot. Like almost too hot to hold for a long period of time. But all the others were fine.

They also keep the brightness at 100% all the time for all display iphones for the appealing factor which also contributes to performance degradation. I played with all the display iphones and they were all hiccuppy, slow, buggy.

I got the iPhone 15 pro yesterday at 2pm, I am a heavy user and I have been heavily using it since I got it leading up to this comment today. Luckily as soon as I unboxed it iOS 17.0.3 with the “overheating” fix was already out and obviously I installed it immediately, from my testing it has not over heated once and I’ve been running typical social media apps and KZbin. I charged it this morning to 93%, unplugged it at 8:13am it hasn’t seen a charger since and it’s sitting at 49% battery at 4:52pm. My testing is very limited as it’s only been a day lol but I will keep an eye on it, luckily so far so good without overheating issues.

I can’t speak for apps like X, threads, Snapchat, etc. as I don’t use those apps.

I had an overheating issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max once I upgraded to iOS 17.0. It was in my pocket, when I started feeling some heat by my knee. I pulled it out, no app was running on it, but it was hot. And the only way for me to sop it from heating was to restart the iPhone. So, I think this is a software issue they have to fix ASAP, hopefully.

Nah, probably instagram or another Meta app doing a background refresh (app doesn’t need to be open). A lot of peoples heating issues disappeared when they turned off background refresh for those apps. That’s also why the heating was random as it would be caused by when the app decided to do that background refresh. The new Apple OS update & instagram update are supposed to fix the issue.

Apple just dropped the update, yesterday(17.0.3) that will fix the heat. It was also a couple of apps (Instagram being one) that was causing the issue as well, and Apple worked with their developers to fix this. Instagram just had an update yesterday as well. It’s definitely not hardware, or the titanium, because the titanium is just the side rails and the majority of the phone is aluminum. The A18 Pro needs to focus more on less power consumption, rather than power.

I really think the Pixel 8 people (choke) got it right this year. Their new chip is around Snapdragon 8 version 1 in power, but they added a really wild set of AI stuff the phone can do to photos, answering calls for you, a temperature sensor (gimmick, but could be useful) among other things. I expect other manufacturers to follow, with the AI next time around. Look at the Pixel 8 reviews. It's interesting. And 7 YEARS of updates.

From what I have been watching in regards to durability on the iPhone Pro Max 15 is that in one of the tare down videos there is a metal plate was was part of the back panel glass design and was integrated into the back in previous iPhones but in the new 15 that metal plate is no longer attached to the back panel but is now part of the internal structure of the phone. This is why the back panel is cheaper to replace but the integrity of the back panel is not as rigid without that metal plate.

I run an 11 and haven’t had any overheating issues, BUT as soon as I have the option I stop updating the OS, (so I’m on the final iteration of 16) which means my phone is now terminal. What Apple are going to do is choke their (frankly ridiculous) processors performance in the new phones to avoid the issue, which does beg the question as to why the hell would anybody buy these phones? Especially the Pro? Here’s an idea, beings as Apple are so keen to save the world and green wash and everything, how about they stop making pointless updates to iOS to improve the life of their products, instead of making sure each product is obsolete within a couple of years? THAT would be good for the environment. Until a phone can do something revolutionary like massaging my balls I really don’t see why these companies continue to claim that a product that is basically the SAME for going on three years needs to be iterated constantly like this, at huge cost to both consumers and the environment.

Accroding to testings from Geekerwan, 3nm process is not as good as expected. A17 Pro is showing similar efficncy as A15 and A16, yet apple somehow decided to boost it's CPU core's frequency to 3.78GHz, which is stupitly high considering iPhone's poor thermal design. Knowing apple, they will probably make modification to CPU and GPU scheduling, limit boost frequency and usage of power cores to solve this issue. However, iPhone designers should really starting to pay more attention to the thermal designs in thier product, especially if they want gaming to be a key feature of an iPhone.

I believe it was way back with the iPhone 3 (maybe earlier) that some copies had an issue with suddenly discharging the battery, causing the phones to literally get dangerously hot. Not surprisingly, Apple was all over that issue, asking people to stop using the affected phones and rapidly getting replacements out to customers. I did have one of those phones and was impressed with how Apple handled the matter.

Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:28 Users are reporting overheating issues with iPhone 15s and 15 Pros, possibly due to software bugs or new hardware. 01:12 Battery performance on the new iPhones seems inconsistent, with users experiencing average days but no outstanding battery life. 02:22 Some users report the iPhone getting hot during random activities, including media playback and airplane mode, suggesting potential software bugs. 03:15 Battery life on the iPhone 15 Pro Max appears to be less impressive, with users getting around 24 hours compared to the previous models' 3 days. 04:51 Speculation suggests the overheating issue might be related to IOS 17 or specific apps causing the phone's CPU to run at maximum capacity randomly. 06:31 Software updates are expected to address the overheating problem, potentially stabilizing the iPhone's battery life to match previous models. 10:16 iPhone 15 Pro Max's durability questioned after a KZbinr bent the phone and shattered the back with his thumbs, raising concerns about its structural integrity

Got the new update and my iPhone 15 pro (not max) still overheats. If I’m driving and it’s plugged into a charger in an AC’d car with no case it still overheats. It’s not hot in my hand it just says on the screen “stopped charging due to overheating will resume once temperatures return to normal” Also the battery in the 15 Pro is complete trash, I have to charge at least 3 times a day. I am exchanging this for a 15 Pro Max I definitely need the extra battery since I use my phone for work all day.

Honestly my iPhone 13 has gotten warm out of the blue in the past but since it didn't have a higher speed processor or have a titanium case that reduces heat dissipation it largely goes unnoticed. If I ever feel it getting warm I just exit all apps and do a restart, usually that returns the iPhone 13 to normal.

We see this every couple of years for both iPhone and Android. Processors have gotten so fast the average consumer is only gonna notice better battery life and that becomes the focus. Then people complain that there’s no major performance differences between the new phone and old phone, so the processors get faster and it takes a battery life hit and gets a little hotter. Then the generation after that will have a focus on efficiency again. Definitely sucks you buy a $1000+ phone and there’s issues like this, but for better or for worse, this is just the order of things.

I don’t have Instagram or any social apps in my phone, or gaming apps, and I do get heating randomly. Changing wireless is kind of scary cause the phone heats like hell… KZbin is kind of random. Sometimes I am watching videos and it heats like hell to the point I stop… I noticed when in horizontal mode it’s worst. And the battery drains fast when it’s heating… So far I only have regrets about upgrading from the 14 pro max to the 15 pro max. Not even the camera is a plus for me. Phone looks fragile somehow and worst.

The thing the average consumer doesn’t really understand is that CPUs get hot. Like well over 100° hot. The difference between my PC’s i13900k and my phones A17 chip is that my PC’s CPU is liquid cooled. I don’t know what tolerances Apple is using, but my phones (since the 13 Pro) have always gotten relatively warm during high workloads. I also don’t know what other users are experiencing when they say “overheating.” If the phone is still on, it hasn’t overheated. But Apple acknowledged this is a problem for some users. I think it’s likely an issue on the software side. If it had to do with the actual hardware, it would never have made it through QA if even 5% of testers experienced hotter than normal phones. Some app or process may be utilizing more of the CPU than it’s supposed to.

I just returned my 15 PM today. After installing iOS 17.0.03 the phone kept overheating. Right this morning, while charging it with the original apple cable and the 20W proprietary charger, while listening to Apple Music full volume for 15 minutes I went into the camera app and there it was again, a message telling me “the iPhone should cool down” before I could use flash again… So here I am back to my 14PM. Who would’ve foreseen they would release an even more disappointing phone this year… Hope 2024 will bring us the iPhone we’re all waiting for

I always get a case, Mous makes some great cases and also get a screen protector. My iPhone 12 Pro had the Sapphire screen protector, a bit expensive, but does a great job. I normally don’t drop my phone and it’s in a leather holster when not in use. I did drop the 12 PRO face down on the tile floor in the kitchen. A few minor cracks on the outside edges that looked disturbing but not extremely bad. When I brought the 12 Pro into AT&T for the upgrade, they pulled off the Saspphire screen and the actual iPhone looked like new, as did the rest of the phone.
