I'm glad the criticism was not more limiting, but this is the ONLY rig I know of that does stereo. So if it falls short on mono applications, it probably is a good thing to have this video to point out that you're paying a lot to be able to record in STEREO which pretty much doesn't happen at all because it's not normal for musicians to do stereo from a guitar or a microphone. But for many applications, this is the ONLY solution when you WANT stereo or you NEED stereo for real-time processing audio input that is dual-channel in nature. I appreciate the video very much sir. Exactly what I'm thinking about this interface. There's always Hard Left and Hard Right (2 mono in each channel), but no mixed stereo option..

I have different problem with this device: when I connect and iPad Pro 10.5 OR an iPhone X to iRig Pro Duo and try simply to play music, the playback just stops after a few seconds. I tried many times, also tried with a brand new iPhone SE 2022 but the problem still was there. I tried with locally stored files, with streaming .. and no change. I looked very carefully into all setting on the devices and removed any possible restriction, but it just keeped stopping. For a test I tried to connect and old Android device I do not use and .. it worked without a problem. Sadly andoid devices are not reliable for recording. The strange thing is that iRig is designed to work with Apple devices but they seem not to like it - or they do not "like" the cable - android devices instead seem to work OK - but i use it only to play music on my m-audio bx5 studio speakers and have no experience with recording and instrument or a voice trough an android device

It works on my android on both sides for stereo but not on the iphone. The iphone does onlybone side So I think it's an issue with the iphone

I’m trying to help my dad find a simple play for him to record himself playing guitar into the iRig duo using an XLR mic and the iPhone cámara, (simple as he just wants to share his playing with friends and family without complex software). Given this limitation (in which sound only comes out of one ear), can I use an XLR Y splitter adapter? ….Meaning the Mic goes into the split adapter and then I can hook up into both Channels on the iRig Unit? (Will this provide sound to both ears when filming with the iphone camara?

@@Newmusicreview thanks I’ll try that. He’s in his late 70s, and doesn’t really sing (nor is he technology friendly). He plays mostly classical guitar and I want to help him make decent quality videos that he can send people, and mostly for me to document and create a record of him for our family. Normally he would just record himself with the iphone, but the background noise and phone distance, as expected, could never catch a good sound. I just bought the iRig duo, I’ll be helping him record some good quality tracks using my mac and software, however, for when he’s alone I want to give him an easy way to continue recording himself on video playing the acoustic guitar in front of a Mic. I tried the iRig today with the iphone camara, and ran into the issue you’re describing here. Software is not an option for him, and simplicity is a must lol… Hopefully the split cable alone will resolve the issue. His set up is basic: Guitar, XLR Mic, and an iphone 😎

@@letsrideharda small mixer will def solve the issue, you can get a really cheap say 4 or 6 channel Behringer type thing and plug mic and guitar into that, stereo out to the iRig , cable out to iPhone, that works very well, and gives you some easy access to bit of simple EQ and maybe reverb of the mixer has FX. I did this for a while but it takes away the portability option which is what I actually got it for,

Hi there I just got this IRig to record my in-ear mix for content but ran in to this exact problem. I only used one channel and it was panned hard left as I didn't know you couldn't change it. I then tried running a 1/4 inch to 3.5 stereo cable to get 2-channel audio but I ran in to some weird fazing issues when adjusting the gain on both channels of IRig which was a bummer bc it didn't improve the audio at all.. so 2 questions. which IRig do you reccomend for the quick on-the-go content recording as well as recording an in-ear mix? and also do the settings you change on IRig recorder save to the unit somehow so you don't have to keep using the app? I plan to use this to output from my Scarlett to this irig and then I to my phone. if I use the 2 line outs (L + R) on the back of my Scarlett, will plugging them into the inputs on the irig produce a stereo sound on my iPhone?

It should do yes...but Im going to double check this using s panned stereo effect to make sure.

Ok...so it seems to me the the Irig is troublesome generally, I found that monitoring my stereo signal using headphones plugged into the rig, it seems to sum the inputs as mono...but...if you actually record to the phone using the USB C connector, the play back is in stereo....very odd...you can also use the Irig App which also records ( and monitors ) in stereo , plus you can use a camera recording at the same time. Either way if you import the file into some software like Davinci, the video and stereo audio files are separated. Let me know how you get on, maybe I’ll do another vid in more detail .

@@Newmusicreview it’s mainly gonna be used for tik tok live, the headphone monitoring isn’t an issue as my Scarlett has a headphone port I can use for stereo monitoring, as long as the sound going into the iPhone is stereo that’s super thank you!

@@NewmusicreviewiPad pro with a martin guitar and a Neumann mic… will the result be MONO?? Or left/right in other words? I hate to use a sync program for audio and video…time consuming. Still have not found a proper way to record straight into the ipad with 2 mics. Terrible.

@@jasper_north well....the thing is it depends what you mean by mono / stereo, my issue was that I wanted to record my guitar with stereo FX plus the mic, which just didnt work for me, if you are using one mic and one guitar ( DI ) then the audio will come from both speakers but not in true stereo as it were, i.e. if you used a stereo delay it would not bounce left / right ...is that confusing ...it could be ;-)...checkout my Lewitt connect 6 vid...might be a better option for you.

@@Newmusicreview actually glad I got in touch I did see this review wasn’t recent but I am looking at getting some reverb for my alto saxophone. I just but a Nux wireless bell mic but now don’t know whether to get a pedal, a mixer, or this irig? I am just looking for some live performance sound for jamming nothing professional. I don’t do much recording. What are your thoughts on trying to achieve the deep golden 80s reverb sound with an alto saxophone? I have Bose companion speakers and also home entertainment receiver at the moment, as well as this Nux wireless mic. Appreciate all your help- I just subscribed 😊

@@junglehusky1453 honestly I think this IRig would be more trouble than it’s worth for a live performer, for a start you would need the PSU as the battery life is terrible, then you would need to use the IRig App or GarageBand for the reverb…..neither are easy to play with. Personally I’d get a legacy reverb unit or pedal, …that said, I’m assuming the Nux mic will need some sort of pre amp so maybe something like a Zoom unit…..do you use backing tracks as well …do you have a laptop or work from an iPad ?…..a few factors to consider.

HI...yeah I guess so, I just recorded shorts on my Iphone, but no reason why you cant go live with it...I would research other options as these aren't that great TBH

Yeah you can change it in the App...but its such a faff then having to export the video and save to your phone to edit before uploading to IG etc.....would be much easier if it had facility to make each inout mono centered.

After installing and launching OBS Studio, you can add a new "Video Capture Device" source, then select the iRig Duo as the audio input. In the audio settings, select "Mono" as the channel configuration.

Yea if the whole point was to simplify things and do it all in one go, having to go in and recombine the audio and video really isn't what he would need. It's true this is a limitation. I wish iRig would make a version of this with 3 changes: - Using USB-C like all the others - Having a "mono combine" switch - With 2 stereo audio outputs. Currently it only has 1 stereo output, because whether you use the big jacks or the small jack, it's the same audio coming out.
