This car is gratuitous. That's the best word I can use to describe it. Nathan summed it up nicely in this video. It is a FUN car, not a serious, track-focused car. It's something you want to drive all the time because, not only is it fast and sounds great, it also is very pleasant and smooth. Long live the naturally-aspirated, V-8 powered, compact sport sedan.

The engine is great, but the car itself is not competitive at all! These get smoked by 340i, Q50 RS, and G70 3.3. Sure, those are turbocharged sixes but still... Lexus could've done a lot more with it, at least with the tech and the packaging given the price point.

Here are some of the 0-60 and 1/4 times of it's competitors and the Lexus taken from zeroto60times: Lexus IS 500, 0-60: 4.3s, 1/4 mile: 12.7s G70 3.3, 0-60: 4.6s, 1/4 mile: 13.1s Cadillac CT4-V: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s Infiniti Q60 RS400: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s MB C43 AMG: 0-60: 4.1s, 1/4 mile 12.6s Audi S4: 0-60: 4.2s, 1/4 mile: 12.8s BMW M340i: 0-60: 3.8s, 1/4 mile: 12.3s Obviously, these can all vary depending on model year and conditions, and some of them are priced lowered than the Lexus, but it's very clearly a competitive car. It obviously loses points in driving dynamics, especially compared with the BMW, Genesis, and Cadillac, but it claws its way back in terms of comfort, reliability, and that NA V8. The interior design is clearly very 2014 (cause it is), but it's just fine, not really offensive (unless you just want to be offended), good materials, and functional. Not the cars strongest selling point, but it's just fine.

@@rousseau327 It's not a bad car by any means but IT DOES NOT warrant the price tag. The competition excels in pretty much every category except in the powetrain department which is debatable, as it'll be based on preferences. I'd obviously take a V8 over a V6 turbo anyday but not in an antiquated package. Luxury shouldn't have to compromise, especially if they're charging a premium over the others, period.

Would I pony up the money? Hells-Yeah I did. Got it for 2022’s MSRP ($62K), phoned in my deposit, flew out to OKC the next day, and drove it back to the ATL. Any engine can be built to last long. Building an engine to last long while extracting its maximum potential is the tricky part. In general, the higher the cylinder count, the more reliable the power output. More cylinders reduce the load on any one point of the bottom end. Unfortunately, packaging a V8 is tricky, as it is a similar length to a 4 cylinder, but additional width (especially in the case of dual overhead cam V8s, such as the Toyota/Lexus 2UR-GSE) makes it very challenging to place in a modern engine bay while keeping everything accessible and easily serviced. Old cars had 3 wires, new ones have more than I care to count, and that ultimately puts pressure on packaging. My dream is to live in a world where VR8 engines are the gold standard. An extremely narrow banked 8 cylinder would have the external dimensions of a 4 cylinder, could use a single head for both very close together banks to save engineering time on the timing system and manufacturing costs on the other lump of metal. As an additional note, cylinder deactivation technology is far more viable in narrow angle engines, as 2 banks sharing 1 head allows the deactivated cylinders to keep warm to avoid developing carbon deposits, as is common in many cylinder deactivation systems found in V shaped engines.

And I know for a fact, it got over the million, as I was able to see this car with 000143 km on the odo. Also drove old fart Subaru Legacy's and Lexus LS400. You can build everything to last. But there is a certain approach to that. An approach lots of makers don't want to go anymore. Lexus is still doing it, and it's why I respect them for that.

Gr8 review!!! Terrific car for the money! A fire-breathing, sporty, luxurious TOYOTA! V8 Lexus cars will become highly collectable. While not the fastest spec in the world, they do trigger endorphins in an unexplainable way. Cars like the IS500 are an emotional purchase, but are actually a smart purchase because of the Toyota / Lexus reliability.

That screen in place of the gauges cluster on the M340i is so awful looking. Its an eyesore especially the cheap plastic brackets they put to hold it in place. The IS500 is sweet inside out.

I bought mine in Aug 23, got it in silver with a white interior and wanted the stock Enkai wheels instead of the optional BBS wheels which you have on this car. I love mine as its quiet and relaxing in Eco mode but put it into Sport+ and it becomes a beast. I'm averaging 19.5mpg and happy with that with my occasional heavy foot. It should last as well being a Lexus.

I have an 04 rx330 3.3L V6 almost 230k miles on the clock and am looking to stay in the Lexus Fam with this is500. Never had the need for the V8 cause I would get in a lot of trouble with this car way more power than I need driving to the grocery store. With that being said, the reliability of a Toyota/Lexus V8 will means if I can get my hands on one and drive it for the rest of my life 20+ year I will do it. A Lexus is a bit of money $60k which is a lot for regular folk who want a nice fun car, however if you keep up with maintenance it will last a very long time. Very limited supply and high demand for this prices will hold steady.

I really really love what i see of this car. I would not however trade my white 2016 atsv coupe (zzp exhaust..295r 18 pilot ss rear tires...Wow!)for it. You can now get a 16 to 19 with low miles for less than 40k as a shopping option.. Mfp loaded at the time was 75k. I bought mine 3yrs ago for 38k..32k miles. I have other toys so i seldom drive it .. 40k miles.... and it is still a show stopper.

I was a Buick driver, and the last Buick I loved was a Park Avenue Super from the 90s. It was my first car. I didn't realize how special it was or I'd never have gotten rid of it. Now I'm a Lexus guy because I want something reasonably fast and comfortable and my friends, if you've never taken a 90s boat to a track and just stretched it for all its worth, you're missing out. I want a comfortable car with GO. I do not want an SUV, I want a *car.* And I'm mad at Cadilac because GM sacrificed buick innovation so many times to neuter the brand. Remember the GNX? Killed for corvettes. Toyota isn't competing with itself when it makes Lexuses. So they're able to roll stuff like this out. Buick is dead, long live Lexus. I must have one.
