I get this leaving the Samples behind idea, but it would be more efficient for a second rover to dock to perseverance and pick up all samples at once, rather than having to drive to each spot. Also if those samples get left behind, they should definitely make sure to protect them from wind and weather, like drilling a larger hole or bolting them down. All in all it is way better to have the second rover pick up the samples from perseverance directly.

The part I don't understand about the mission is, if a human is able to be there, they could dig up large fresh samples with tools they bring. Why would they need to collect them at that point? I guess it saves time so they don't have to drive around and dig in different places.

So will the samples be left in a trail for a future micro rover to collect or will it pile them in one or a couple of places? Why not keep them onboard for a hand off to a return vehicle? I mean there is a risk of getting them all stuck in rough terrain but other than that a system to place samples directly in a return vehicle at a rendezvous point would seem to make a lot of sense.

@tapist3482

What casings are you talking about... The rocket casings are there to provide better air dynamics within the atmosphere, and therefore discarded right before the spacecraft entering its orbit to reduce overall mass. So basically every spacecraft is "naked" in the space. A useful hint when drawing fanart of spacecrafts lol.

I grew up with the Original Star Trek series. I love Sci-fi, space research etc...... But many N.A.S.A. fans forget survival is necessary. Space exploration isn't. The Ocean, the final frontier, these are the voyages of all humans to seek out new opportunities and boldly go where no humans have gone before! 🎶

it'd be kind of weird if we made a new rover that was less advanced.

Your audio is still messed up, how have you not addressed this yet?

Seems like a few people are having a similar problem with this video. I'm not. His audio is fine. Perhaps you need to review your hardware or settings.

@@ODX171 I'm having terrible audio too, and this definitely has nothing to do with my computer. I'm thinking it may be KZbin's fault, i.e., they compress too aggressively, and only some people are served these overcompressed videos.

@@ODX171 His audio is not fine, you just don't know the difference between a good and bad recording. This audio is is clearly recorded on a headphone mic rather than a proper mic, because of house compressed it is. And he's using a very aggressive noisegate to eliminate in-room sound reflections, so the ends of his words are getting cut off.

I hope this rover will have external battery maintenance connections for a remote service device.
