I have watched the progress of Mars exploration with deep fascination, ever since Pathfinder landed. In fact, watching its landing was part of my first date with my now-husband. Seeing all of this makes me incredibly happy. Maybe we will see a manned mission in my lifetime after all!

I wish they would bring a small drone with them so it can help calibrate the software for the drone mission on Titan in the coming decade. It doesn't need to be anything crazy, just a drone the size of a tennis ball.

Hey sounds like you need to adjust the compression settings on your mic! Your threshold is set way too low and release way too fast. You only need light compression on spoken word or it sounds unnatural. Great video otherwise and you're still getting a thumbs up from me :)

Cut the defense budget in half (740 billion to 370), and it's still 30% more than China (261 billion). Russia spends 65 billion a year. NASA's budget is 22.6 billion. Not only could you x4 Nasa's budget, but have 300 billion left over to greatly enhance our national security through job creating climate mitigation projects, medical and tech R&D, modernizing energy and transportation infrastructure, etc..

I get this leaving the Samples behind idea, but it would be more efficient for a second rover to dock to perseverance and pick up all samples at once, rather than having to drive to each spot. Also if those samples get left behind, they should definitely make sure to protect them from wind and weather, like drilling a larger hole or bolting them down. All in all it is way better to have the second rover pick up the samples from perseverance directly.

I guess its down to weight and space, having an additional storage area would increase weight on takeoff and possibly even mean they would have less space and would have to remove other experiments from the craft.

The part I don't understand about the mission is, if a human is able to be there, they could dig up large fresh samples with tools they bring. Why would they need to collect them at that point? I guess it saves time so they don't have to drive around and dig in different places.

Anyone who has spent more than an hour editing audio can hear the clipping and compression in these videos. Pre-quarantine videos had fine audio, post-quarantine has shit audio. It's very simple to hear if you have decent ears and understanding of quality.

So will the samples be left in a trail for a future micro rover to collect or will it pile them in one or a couple of places? Why not keep them onboard for a hand off to a return vehicle? I mean there is a risk of getting them all stuck in rough terrain but other than that a system to place samples directly in a return vehicle at a rendezvous point would seem to make a lot of sense.

Never actually considered. What happens to the rocket when it gets to Mars again? Does the rover eject and drop from the rocket and parachute to the surface? Does the rocket containing the rover burn up in the atmosphere? Don't think about the rocket casings in the bigger picture.

What casings are you talking about... The rocket casings are there to provide better air dynamics within the atmosphere, and therefore discarded right before the spacecraft entering its orbit to reduce overall mass. So basically every spacecraft is "naked" in the space. A useful hint when drawing fanart of spacecrafts lol.

@ 2:00 We won't be able to see the landing in real time. The footage recorded by the cameras will be beamed back only later. So the landing experience will be very similar to that of Curiosity 8 years ago.

@@ODX171 His audio is not fine, you just don't know the difference between a good and bad recording. This audio is is clearly recorded on a headphone mic rather than a proper mic, because of house compressed it is. And he's using a very aggressive noisegate to eliminate in-room sound reflections, so the ends of his words are getting cut off.
