The New Odd Couple was an American sitcom television series that aired on ABC from 1982 to 1983, and was an updated version of the 1970s television series The Odd Couple. The New Odd Couple was the second attempt to remake a series of one of Neil Simon's plays with a primarily African-American and European-American cast. The first was Barefoot in the Park (which also premiered on September 24, 1970, the same day the original Odd Couple series did).
In this series, Felix and Oscar were both African-American college buddies who met in the 1950s. Felix was portrayed by Ron Glass and Oscar was portrayed by Demond Wilson. The characterizations were still the same, as Felix was a prissy neatfreak and Oscar was a fun-loving and sloppy character. John Schuck also appeared as Murray the Cop, who was kept Caucasian, as was the character of Roy, who was played by Bart Braverman.
The show ran for 18 episodes; eight of the episodes used recycled scripts from the original series. By the time the writers began producing new scripts, it was too late, as the show never found an audience. The series was cancelled in 1983.

@@BrotherDerrick3X Agreed. Klugman and Randall was "Oscar" and "Felix" no need for any damn remakes. The Series Creator Simon and the Producers should have just created from scratch a new show with the former Co Stars of the legendary shows "Barney Miller" with Mr. Glass and "Sanford and Son" with Mr. Wilson. Instead it became unfairly known as the "Black" Odd Couple. 1980's style.

1st error..was calling it "the new odd couple" Instead of "the odd couple" the tv show with Tony and Jack was a copy itself. The REAL odd couple was a movie. They didn't call the Tony and Jack tv show, "the new odd couple" They tried to make a show called "the new monkees" which failed as well. If you're going to do a remake, you can't just call it, the new etc. People take shows all the time. Standford and son was called l

Such a great cast, I missed this when it was first out. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to click quite the same as the original. Maybe recycling the old scripts wasn't such a good idea

Thank you for posting. I miss my cousin Ronnie. His mother was my father’s sister. Ronnie was more like a brother to me.

I didn't know about this show. Demon Wilson looks a lot different without his mustache. Ron Glass he was real good on Barney Miller.
