I've been looking at the new Ork vehicles again and I've gone from thinking that they're perfect and I'd never mess with them to deciding that they an absolute goldmine for kitbashing and conversions. So many different parts, engines, guns, exhausts... they're perfect for creating over the top Ork vehicles because they already ARE over the top Ork vehicles! What do you think? Will you make some monstrosities out of these kits, or leave them standard? Let me know in the comments!

May be slightly off topic for this video but... I think that the Warhammer Community team is doing an awesome job of everything, but I have to say that I admire them most for the infinite patience they have in dealing with the people who keep whining about "Yeah, this is some lousy Orktober, where are mah models uhuh." When the new Slaanesh model was leaked and subsequently officially revealed, with an awesome video to boot, there were instantly tons of whiners "Orktober, yeah right what's this this sucks, where's Orktober" second day into the month. Hell, I've seen these comments when we were literally *two hours* into October. Literally. The unfathomable depths of sheer, unfiltered stupidity and entitlement in those complaints is on a truly epic scale. So yeah, the models are awesome, new stuff keeps coming up and I have no doubt more cool stuff is on its way. And kudos to the Community team for their nerves of steel.

The Hammer yeah, there are some really impatient among us greenskins, and it was hilariously bad on some subreddits. Most announcements happen between 11am and 1pm Eastern Standard Time, and we had people on r/orks complaining at 7 in the morning on the 1st that we haven’t gotten anything.

Me and my dad years ago made Deff dreads from hell brutes, Green stuff, ork nobz and Deff dread claws. Kit bashing is amazing and unique and is sad to see it falling away but the new vehicles would be great to make our own versions of vehicles and see the creativness of the community.

Bradley Dickinson Do you really believe that kitbashing and converting are decreasing in popularity, or practice? I don’t play the game, so I don’t meet new people and see their armies or anything, so I’m honestly asking, I’m not just taking the piss. Have you noticed that people just aren’t doing it anymore (for the most part)? I can’t imagine NOT converting and kitbashing my models- when I first started the hobby, I made up my own chapter, and even though they came out pretty wretched looking, I converted loads of stuff. I’m no Crystal Brush over here, but I AM a lot better than I was, and am now painting up a 30K Raven Guard force, and even though they stick to the generally accepted look of the 19th, I’ve done a lot of converting to really make them my own. It’s really one of my favorite things about the hobby. I’d really like to hear your opinions- thanks!

@@markbrigandi7497 From what I've seen recently, people are taking the models more at face value with very little in customisations and kitbashing but when it is done it is done to an incredible standard which I think is stopping people from trying to do it themselves for the first time.
@markbrigandi7497
@markbrigandi7497 6 жыл бұрын
Bradley Dickinson I agree with you about a lot of them looking so good that they’re intimidating to new painters, etc. I remember my first kits and looking at the models just on the box and thinking “I wouldn’t be able to do that in a hundred years!” And seeing conversions in White Dwarf? Forget it! But I’m pretty patient, and determined, and when I really want to do something, I generally practice until I get it right. Do you think that maybe the newer kits being a lot more monopose, not to mention extremely busy, has any effect on people not wanting to try? Because obviously those are not impossible to convert, but are certainly much more difficult-
@bradleydickinson290
@bradleydickinson290 6 жыл бұрын
@@markbrigandi7497 I remember doing my Deff dread conversions and they do look impressive but they are also not perfect and to me it doesn't matter because I enjoyed it and they look so crazy that me and my dad loved to do to make his ork army stand out. They too were monoposed so was hard to make them look different and alter without a doubt! The monoposed models does seem to be to stop people breaking too far away from their vanilla range but also, the models themselves to many look too good to change as Mr. Kirioth says, the ork models look good and probably don't need changing and hard to change but would be fun to do like adding tracks, jets, legs etc to make them funky and unique but it's hard to make them look good especially when some see that your vandalising a good model. Where do you stand on conversions? I.e. Is there an upper limit as to how much you can change something but call it the same?
@markbrigandi7497
@markbrigandi7497 6 жыл бұрын
Bradley Dickinson Well, it’s obviously just my opinion of course, but I really think it’s a case by case basis. At least if I’m the one doing the conversions, I think it really depends on which army it is that you’re building. Certain armies, Orks especially, really lend themselves to converting, mostly due to the ramshackle, thrown-together look of their armor, vehicles, I guess “buildings” would be giving them too much credit, so we’ll say, “structures”, and weapons. You really don’t have to worry too much about cutting straight lines on the pieces you plan to use, they don’t have to fit precisely, etc. That same approach can’t be used on the Ultramarines or Imperial Fists- their looks are much more structured and rigid. I also really like the models that people use for their games to be WYSIWYG- it takes more effort, but (I assume) it would make the game easier to play- you can tell what your opponent is carrying without having to ask all the time. Since I am pretty much just a fluff and model junkie, even the models that I make have all of the equipment on them that they have in the official GW fluff, and the extended stories behind each of them that I have made up for them. I just like everything to be represented. As far as where I would draw the line as to what is “too much”- I guess if any added conversions would make the model unable to function as it’s supposed to, that would be too much for me. I’m ALL for added tracks, dozer blades, extra DAKKA, extra armor, all that stuff- I mean, it’s 40K, after all- I cant think of any other universe that’s more okay with being over the top. But- if the extra guns are too big for the vehicle, and would knock it over backwards if they were fired, or they would weigh so much that the vehicle couldn’t move, or the dozer blades would prevent it from being able to turn, or they blocked the hatch so the pilot couldn’t get in or out, that’s also too much. Just practical stuff, common sense stuff, I guess- if it wouldn’t work because of the laws of physics (excepting all the sci-fi/fantasy elements, like a person being able to fly by magic, or grav-repelling skimmers and tanks, etc), then I wouldn’t put it on my model. And while I always say that if someone wants to make a pink Khorne Berserker army, then they’re more than welcome to, and they should try to make it the best damn pink Khorne Berserker army the world has ever seen! But if you’re using your army to play at a tournament, or even just at a game/hobby store, you should probably figure that there are going to be players there who are accustomed to their opponents using armies that have the “accepted” look of the way they were designed. The only other place I might think it’s gone too far is if you are using equipment (without altering it at all) from another story’s universe, or you make your models just SO incredibly different looking that, even when you explain it to people, they still can’t see it. Other than that- if you’re modeling for your own display case at home, and as long as YOU like what you’ve made, and you enjoyed making it, and it brings you happiness- do whatever you want. I personally try not to stray too far from the original design and paint scheme, but I always add my own touches, wargear, armor markings, specialized helmets, trophies, memorials to fallen comrades, etc- so even though I may invent some specialist armors or different weapons, or whatever, they are still easily recognizable as Raven Guard. Do you have an upper limit of what you find to be acceptable, or too much? I’m really interested in hearing about it. And by the way- I’m a little jealous of your relationship with your dad. That’s so great that the two of you both share a hobby, and can enjoy it together while enjoying each other’s company. I’m close with my dad, and we can talk about most anything, but he’s in his 80’s, (I’m 43) and even though he can appreciate if I’ve painted something well, his vision and coordination would prevent him from really getting into it. And he’s not really that big on science fiction. Anyway- let me know about your “limits of what’s acceptable “- thanks!

I completely agree with the sheer bitz-potential these kits possess, and I can't wait to see all the utterly insane things that the community is going to come up with...I may do something with them myself, eventually...but first, I think I just want one of each of the new models, to paint the hell out of, just as-is...and from there, I'll see how the rules for all these things are, and what, if any, I want more of...and then I might start tinkering with them....but yeah, first thing's first, I just want to get one of each, to build as-is, and paint them up real nice, in my style...because I love them all just as they are, aside from the paintjobs being way too neat and clean for my orky tastes - they shouldn't look like they've just rolled off the showroom floor...

Kitbashing was a big success for me a few days ago. I was looking at my Terminator captain (lysander) and thought "My emperor. This looks bland and boring" After amputating his forearm with hammer and repositioning it, removing his head and replacing it with another one wich i cliped an antenna off, i removed the searchlight from his torso, added a Venerable Dreadnought sarcophagus (the one with the little arches around the hauberg), i cliped some parts to make it fit the torso well enough, removed triangular bits from the lower end, so he looks like as if he could move his legs without being impeded, and put the searchlight back on. Now he looks like a proper captain. Now i need to learn how to Green Stuff the two parts togheter.

When ork vehicles started looking great, in 4/5ed, my interest in them sort of dropped a bit. It was just sooo much fun doing ork vehicles back when the offical ones looked horrible. When you see them and think. "Hm, dunno what to change?", some of the charm of da boyz was lost. But the new models really look ace!

If I had they money I'd love to kit bash these vehicles. But at the same time, I have a horrible feeling that these kits are going to come with just the pieces needed for the models and nothing else. As much as 3rd edition lacked some of the detail, they did always include extras like sights, glyphs, extra guns etc which were perfect for dressing up other factions vehicles without needing to spend lots of money on a whole other kit for the conversion. Most of my ork army was built through cheap ebay finds of partly built or broken imperial vehicles combined with my spare bits box. I am suspecting that these vehicles will come in several larger parts that have all the detail already on them and as such wont have many smaller orky parts to add on. Hopefully im wrong but ill hold out judgement on their kitbash ability until ive seen the parts, although part of me is hopeful.

I hope these kits were done by the same minds behind the dakkajet/etc. kit as it was bonafide redonkulous how much you could customise and personalise each flyer just within the box! Definitely one of the most fun kits I’ve had from GW because they allowed so many options, I’m hoping these also have some of that flexibility

As a more "moderate" Ork player, I'm not really into this over-the-top style of the new vehicles. The red one and the blue one (their names escape me yet again) look decent and "realistic" enough for me to use them pretty much as they are (minor conversions notwithstanging). The Dragsta looks more like a racing car than a combat vehicle IMO, so that will need some major conversion work. And the new jet car just doesn't look very good to me. It's way too goofy and the silhouette is very boring. I'll probably only get it if I ever want to spice up a dakkajet. But it looks like all of these are going to be great sources of bitz. I can't quite remember the sprues from Speed Freeks and we haven't seen the sprues for the newly-revealed stuff though, so we'll need to wait and see how many parts they will actually have in the kits.

The "hobby community" isn't the same as it was, necessity is the mother of invention, conversion and kit bashing was a way of life back in the day, we had codex entries without models as routine, obviously court cases and third party leeches made that impossible and we moved into the current era of everything needs a model. People now tend to convert and kit bash for fluffy reasons or in some cases for financial reasons, but the community also has alot of people who simply don't see the point and just want the model almost prebuilt, some models are more like small action figure toys these days than multipart/multipose model kits.
