It’s not Phở real Phuc , Phở real doesn’t come with yellow onions 🧅 cilantro 🌿 and it have to come with MSG . Next time when u come back to your hometown in Florida . I’m beginning to learn Vietnamese. Your, Chris, and Max’s videos are usually my go to. I also have a Vietnamese restaurant nearby, and the ladies who work there are on board to help me learn. I asked what “please” was, and while one lady gave me the answer “xin voi lòng”, she also said it’s a little unusual to use the term. So is it odd when I look at the subs where Chris asked for two bowls of beef pho, to see please and thank you in the translation when it’s not in the Vietnamese subtitles? Does inference, inflection and assumption of courtesy play a part in Vietnamese culture?

Yeah, there are so many different ways to say everything. A lot of the traditional things, you learn, such as that phrase, nobody actually uses those. You just have to find which ways sound the most natural and work best for you. That’s why people get confused. When I speak, I use phrases from the south and the north, just depends on what I feel like saying.

@@phucmapvlog yeah, I’m getting that. I’m using Rosetta Stone, and Duolingo, but it gets a little confusing when I listen to Max or you, because those programs primarily use Northern tones and words. Lots of zzz zzz zzz going on. Whatever the case, I appreciate you, man. You’re Vietnamese is clear and easy to listen to, and you crack me up every video. That thing you and Chris have going is amusing AF. You’re funny, engaging, articulate, and intelligent. You make watching an educational experience. That’s a rare gift. My lady and I will be visiting Da Nang next year, but if we get down to Saigon I’ll keep an eye open for the ginger beard. All the best.

It still amazes me that a lot of foreigners are able to speak Vietnamese so well despite not being born in Vietnam. I'm born in Vietnam and still am not as fluent in Vietnamese as my English

I think a lot of it comes down to motivation. It is possible to live here and never learn any, but if you actually want to do it, and spend the time studying, it’s very possible. We’re just happy to be able to practice on KZbin and get feedback from a lot of native speakers!

@@phucmapvlog I will be honest, most of the Vietnamese I needed to learn, the only ones I am really willing to learn is history, something that is consistent to all history stuff I learnt (I am in a Canadian International school so I got to learn about Canadian and American history). Novels and poems aren't my forte in any languages and that is the same for Vietnamese. I think maybe that's why.
