Glad to see you completed that strainer system, Terry. Used an old basket canister until it decided it was time to self destruct. Get enough flow to keep the pumps happy? Thanks for the builds.

Hi Terry, is the height of the Sieve Filter above the first tank critical or could you have lowered the stand somewhat?.....many thanks
@Wrighty4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray, you need at least 6" above the water level of the filter. Hope this helps, Terry.

Have noticed any loss of flow due to increased head pressure? That looks to be close to 5' high? I totally love it though, not sure I could ever get it to look as clean as you have. Very nice build.
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
+Ron Yelenich Hi Ron, Thank you. It's only lifted my water level head pressure by abut 18 inches. So not really noticeable. Terry.

Great little idea. Just wish I could put on onto my system as it only takes a couple of days before my filters start getting clogged up with algae and I have to drop them to clean the strainers (stop the K1 going into the next vortex)
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
+Mythril1976 Hi, Thank you, I know what your saying, algae getting in filters was a big problem. This pre-filter will stop any algae getting into your filters at all. Terry.

That seems to work a treat, well done! The original system is getting bigger and bigger though, so your next trick is to condense though whole system into an effective, cheapish, diy drum filter and retire to the sun on the profits!! LOLGreat work buddy, keep the vids coming.....Barry

+Barry Spiers Hi Barry, I had several people ask me if I could come up with something to stop algae getting into there filters as it was becoming a big problem for them. And that's what I came up with. Not sure you get much sun in Skegness lol. Thanks, Terry.

great video. so with this prefilter you would only need 1 moving media bed since it does the job of your first 2 stationary media bed.

Hi Tony, No Mate, it's only a pre-filter. It removes the larger particles and algae from the water to make life easier for the filters so they don't need so much cleaning. Terry.

Terry, any chance you have a link to buy that tub you built the pre filter with? I can't find one similar. Are you seeing any algae build up on the mesh? Last, what do you think about having the 2" feeder pipe come in the other side? shooting into the mesh, instead of having that flap to knock down the spray. Just throwing things out there.
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron,I used a plastic storage box with lid that you can buy from your local DIY store to make the pre-filter. One with straight sides if possible (no strengthening creases). I thought about having the inflow pointing straight at the mesh, but my idea was that doing it like that would force the dirt and algae into the mesh, which is what you don't want, The dirt and algae want to be allowed to slide down the mesh and be pushed to the bottom by the water, so the water still passes through without blocking the mesh. Since I installed it, I've had no algae or large pieces of dirt in my filters at all. It's heaven. The full detailed plans are in the Shop on my website diypondfilters.com/shop Terry.

nice pre-filter. what was the sieve material made of?
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert,I used 200 micron stainless steel.Terry.

I would have made it out of 50 gallon barrel & had some k1 ah the bottom ? Maybe wrighty. But. Everyone to their own. Still works fine so cannot fault ya matey.
@monty3862able8 жыл бұрын
give us an update on the filter terry does it get block easy and how often are you cleaning it
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
+monty3862able Hi Monty, I was cleaning the pre-filter twice a week. But I have found I can leave it a week in between cleaning and it doesn't block. The algae and dirt are pushed to the bottom of the filter by the water flow which is great. A 30 second rinse with the hose, and it's good to go again for another week. And no algae in my filters, it's a god send.Terry.

Could you use this as a vacuum for a pond? I am thinking of running a pump as a stand alone unit to this filter with the return going right back in the pond.

What is the micron of the sieve (wedge wire screen) that you used for the construction of the pre filter? How much did you buy it and from where?
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
+Akeem Andu Hi Akeem, I bought it on ebay, 240 micron. All the details on how to build and links are on my website in the plans diypondfilters.com Terry

Hi what is the name of the air pump you are using and what flo should i be looking for. I purchased the K1 media and put in the filter. Problem is, the media is sitting next to the return drain tubes and the only media moving is on the far left. Could it be the media is new and has to be in the filter a few days? A simmer is all i am getting so i took the air stone off and nothing changed.
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
Hi, It does take a while for the media to settle down. It has to become what they call neutrally buoyant. It will take a few days for the media to stop floating. The pump I use is an old pump and they don't make any more. It pumps 35 lpm. Terry.

how frequently do you have to clean the filter(wash the sieve)?
@Wrighty8 жыл бұрын
+Sammy Parmar Hi Sammy,At the moment I give it a rinse once a week. It will depend how much algae and dirt is in the pond until it gets it cleared. But it only takes two minutes with a hose so it's not too bad. I must say my filters are a lot better and cleaner for having it.Terry.
