The hope is that full size HDMI on the Raspberry Pi 600
@kevinmcaleer28Күн бұрын
Yeah that would be good, but based on the past Raspberry Pis it seems unlikely - might have to wait another 4 years for the Pi 600!

I almost bought a pi 500, then while deciding I watched Jeff G and Leepsp videos and saw that some functionality was stripped out of this version, such as the NVMe. I will hold out for the PI 500 pro for now, although it already looks like a great product for educational purposes, which is where they will probably sell most of them. Such a good product for youngsters and people just getting into computers, I wish i had something this powerful when I started learning because the PI 500 makes a 128k spectrum I had look like something from the Stone Age.

I went through the exact same process this morning. Saw email from Pi Hut, went to their site, no boxed set, so starting adding separate bits together. Stopped. Saw the Jeff Geering video and thought, what the hell was the point of putting the traces and pads on the board to not populate them? If they're for an upcoming version, announce it for a later release date - be transparent. Mind you, a lot of people will just buy the Pi 500 and never know the unpopulated NVMe bits are on the board, so it's aimed at the more base level buyer, or those who don't care about having NVMe onboard. Bit of backward step from the Pi 5 though.

I use my Pi 400 extensively, always cursing the speed and memory. Still, I love it. I learned to manage the memory, and I use friendly and "fast" Operating Systems. I would buy the Pi500 Kit and two monitors once they become available. Thanks for the video.

Impressive video, Kevin McAleer. Eager to see your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! The integration of the new Raspberry Pi 500 with the monitor looks seamless, but have you considered how the lack of PCIe connectors might limit future expansion for AI applications?
@kevinmcaleer285 күн бұрын
Yes - I'd say the absence of PCI is a real miss for this release, its clearly designed to be an all in one, so they must have taken the decision to leave this out. A little hatch underneath for an NVMe drive would have been nice though.

I just pre ordered the Pi500 kit and the monitor. Love the new all full white colour and I like the full white mouse. The Pi500 is cool and been waiting for it but the star for me is the monitor. Thats going to be so useful for other things and the fact I can run this all on my kitchen table with a battery power bank is going to be epic for me.

Do you know if there is a Spanish keyboard layout? Thanks
@DavidJones-hd1jj5 күн бұрын
I have ordered a display as it has an IPS panel and decent resolution for the size. It will not suit all use cases but the kick-stand format is perfect for what I need. As for the Pi 500, no NVMe is a disappointment as you imply. As I already have a Pi 5 with a Pi SSD I do not think I would want to go back. One correction - according to the R Pi documentation the Pi 500 does come with an SD card. Can anyone confirm this?
@kevinmcaleer285 күн бұрын
You are correct - it does come with a 32gb preloaded SD card

I am enjoying my RPi 400, but the lack of PgUp,PgDn, Home and End keys means that my next RPi won't be an all-in-one model. Also interesting to note that "Raspberry keyboard" is not an option on any of the Linux variants that run on the RPi. I mean, how hard can it be to add it to the list?
@gabor2224 күн бұрын
What if I want to use the monitor for retro computers or emulators on the Pi that use the 4:3 aspect ratio? Will it stretch it to 16:9 or will it display it in 4:3 ratio with black bars on the sides? My LG monitor lets me choose but if I'm not mistaken the Raspberry monitor has no menu system that lets to switch between different modes so I wonder how does it work when we are not in 16:9.

2:30 Sure, but then I spend an extra 25 bucks on a HAT with m.2 slot and 2.5Gbit ethernet. The biggest joke about this "pi 400 se" (as it really should be called) is that you can open it up and see where they had the m.2 nvme slot planned. If you don't get the PCIe capabilities, then what's the point? Who is this thing for? And if it's meant for kids to learn programming, then go with 4GB instead of 8GB like on the 400 and make it 20 bucks cheaper.
