the new ride

So the White Pearl is for sale as a new lady enters my life. Here she is...a 1979 Whitby 42 center cockpit ketch, designed by Ted Brewer. It kills me to say goodbye to my old boat as it changed my life in so many way - we had so many memories and great times, but I also know its important to keep moving forward and chasing goals. I am not one to stay stale, I need something to be working for to feel at my best, and boy do I have my work cut out for me. With that said I am so stoked to see what the future has in store for us as I know that Providence will take us far.
She will keep the name "Providence" for awhile until I can work on some ideas to improve and upgrade a bit, at which point I might rename her to Calypso.. thoughts?
As I said in the video the only thing that is missing (besides a huge pirate flag of course) is you! Come on down for a charter sometime, we will be waiting for you if not in the Virgin Islands somewhere else in the Caribbean!

Very nice - congrats! Makes me wonder if Alex Minona is still with us. Haven't seen him in 15 years or so, he was older than I, so he's probably gone. As a surveyor, I spent a lot of time at Whitby Boats overseeing the refurbishing of Whitby and Alberg yachts; they came from all over the world, many from Europe to bring the ladies home to Alex to work on. Not to mention the many wooden C.C.C. and Trojans that came to him for work. It was always a pleasure to work with Alex and his crew. One of last real boatworks and real shipwrights.....

I'd be worried about the vibrations and rusting from the inside when you won't know till your in that 40k headwind... Depending on overall size (don't think it will matter) and shipping issues, maybe we can build here and send to you. Two 90' angle and maybe a 45' of suitable size out of stainless steel from Simmons and a few feet of straight pipe, bingo an exhaust suitable for a world voyage. Being that you have time, lets use it to our advantage. Once again, kick ass vessel you have there.... Gil

Spares for this boat are in pretty good shape already, I think I have about 3 sets of gaskets for EVERYTHING on her so stuff is looking good and just need to fill in some gaps

I haven't no, and not really sure it's a topic I want to cover. There are so many sailors covering this with videos but I generally get pretty upset watching them because it's all hogwash.... crusing can cost as little or as much as you want it to depending on your lifestyle, skillset and tolerance to modern comforts. To address the question a bit more directly on how I got here... I have been working in I.T. since I was about 20. I saved up money for YEARS to be able to afford a boat, and then I sold every last thing i owned except for 2 suitcases of clothes and a laptop. I lived on savings for 2 years until I could develope a little source of income via my videos. Now I'm working on the next step up!

I got a question: You once recommended a nice sipping rum and drank it with other dudes. Which one has it been? :-) I like sweet (but best would be not artificially sweetened with sugar) Rum with a hint of vanilla, caramel, fruits and stuff, a good example is maybe "Don Papa", but that is probably not consumed in the Caribbean as it´s from Asia. Nice new boat! She is a blue water vessel for sure. I remember reading something on CruiserForum that the older fiberglass boats are actually better because it was a relatively new material so they are overbuilt. The chartering sounds like a sweet idea and the deep house/pirate aspect will bring in younger people who may not think to do a trip like that.
