Be an advocate - if I had kids I'd insist they be permitted to sit on the floor for their classes; we literally force children into chairs. Otherwise they'd just continue to squat or sit on the floor like all indigenous cultures do. It took me about 2 years to be able to comfortably sit on the floor for 30-45 minutes. The problem is when you don't sit on a chair you fidget more and perhaps this is not amenable to the classroom environment but maybe the Classroom arrangement is whats broken not mans natural inclination to micro-adjust.

After listening to your wonderful talk ( My father was a revert to Islam ) I felt totally amazed that God definitely gave and ordained us to pray our ritual prayer five times a day as a Muslim, which entails standing the way you did and moving from each position to eventually sitting on the ground as a perfect form of exercise for our fascia . I mean who else would know but the creator who created us what kind of exercise is so important for our bodies. It reminds me of a verse in The Noble Quran which exp. how we will recognise the signs of our creator WITHIN ourselves and around us . As a Muslim I pray 5 times a day , so that’s like taking 5 ten minutes breaks beginning in the morning at dawn and ending with the 5th prayer (plus slow body movements) before retiring for a restful sleep at night I’ve also discovered this prayer is in total harmony with our circadian rhythm. Thank you sooo much Mary for such an insightful talk - bless you .

This should be taught to the elderly in retirement homes, on a regular weekly basis. A movement, flowing type session. As I was watching I had my elderly cat with arthritis, sitting between my legs and she sat there for about 20mins whist I just moved her floppy skin, loving everything. (Just jumped up for more - she struggles to get up now but made it this time!)

Better late than never. Amazing that my un-informed try-outs to improve postures have been validated by Mary Bond. One is about standing: I stand when reading emails and my colleagues were puzzled. I said I just felt more alert than sitting down reading emails. Now I am convinced of the benefits of standing when doing brain works. And adding on a footpad with little pebbles to stand on is great idea to try. Let's share with people around us by first showing the good posture reaped from practicing the generous sharing by Mary Bond.

Most comfortable seat I sat on was a hip height rail at a Singapore bus shelter. Minimal knee bend , brilliant. Great. This validated my practice and intuitive body coaching, giving me more ways to understand why it works. And reinspired my design projects addressing just these issues. I would love to find an engineer to put my ergonomic concepts into prototypes.

Thank you this very helpful info. I was working at a school, so, used to gave these types of breakers to the students. Also, to take them to the track for resting from long periods of seating. That was because those students where special and had the right for doing different things. Besides that, the teachers allowed that. I would stand on a place to exercise and do possible yoga movements while waiting for some students To arrive. Some students that arrived very early at the school would come and exercise with me. Somethings are examples that the skillful and smart eye of students would take as a good practice.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. As a 75-yr old, life-long fibromyalgia sufferer I've been researching methods of managing chronic pain long before there was an internet. I learned about rolfing from a book in a medical library in the 1970's, but had forgotten about it until your video. I currently receive trigger point injections for acutely-painful Myofascial Pain Syndrome, have a weekly massage and chiropractic adjustment. These treatments have reduced the frequency of MPS episodes significantly, but I have felt there was something more I could be doing for myself. I believe this may be it! To date I have been unable to locate a rolfer in the southern Los Angeles area. If you could guide me in any way, I would be greatful. Thank you again.

I love your description of walking barefoot! Yes! This is how I walk; it's not just a shoe-foot, unarmored, plopping evenly down on whatever the ground is in that spot, but a very dynamic interaction of foot and whatever texture or geometry it finds. It's nearly instantaneous interaction, it changes how weight is distributed across my foot, and the micromovements chain all the way up the body. Injuries are extremely rare, because of these reactions. I've had a sensory "thing" with anything strapped to my feet my whole life, infancy to the big 5-oh. I've never heard anyone describe my experience of walking before. I know this is not the point of your lecture, at all, but I've never felt seen in this way. Thank you.

Yeah this is literally a presentation aimed at people with desk jobs. Some of us "use our bodies" at work all the time and are exhausted in different and arguably worse ways. In a nutshell we need to find different sources of energy and much more efficient transportation and machinery (the less the better) and an overall economic system and society that doesn't reward psychopath behavior. People can work less or more efficiently then or whatever and still maintain their health and home and have hobbies maybe?? Maybe a pipe dream.

I'm wondering if this fascia has always been a part of our body or if this might be the resulting growth of some gm... like the spider silk producing yeast protein that's been put in wheat or ? The picture at 10:21 showing the fascia in a sticky matrix is identical looking to what is felt growing internally and which becomes the 'unknown fibers' externally in those with Morgellons. Does the fascia produce the sticky matrix as it grows or vice versa with the sticky stuff starting as tiny or small specks which as it grows produces the fascia? Perhaps the answer can only be another version of the chicken or egg hypothesis, but maybe tensegrity is a solution to work with instead of fight with biology whether original or a modification.

I have chronic migraines - every day for 30yrs following my 3rd son's birth. I'm 6'1" tall, 124 pounds (lost 10 pounds last week bc chronic migraines were so bad I either couldn't eat or could, but couldn't keep it, and the COPD makes it hard. I have PT 1x a week, my balance is very poor and pt comes to me. She says I'm actually too weak to use those bands. Everything she wants me to do is reps. of leg lifts, holds etc. No weights of course! Lol, l'm lucky I can handle my own body. She says she wants me walking more but with the walker bc I've had some very bad falls. what do I do? Repetitive movement to try and rebuild muscle or swallow my pride and use the walker. I cannot stand without support for more than 1.30 min. I have copd, so losing my breathing is terrifying. I have to find a way to heal and rebuild but my breathing and over-all weakness and other serious obstacles have me contused oh! Lol I meant confused but I'm also contused! Lol, falling hurts! it would be easier to walk rather than do the excercises from PT~ do you think it's possible to walk and bend and stand and stretch and reach my way back to Healthy muscles? I'm not gonna See my 70's at this rate! I'm not asking you to 'treat' me, but Ins. won't pay for more that 3 more days of pt and there's a good chance I'll go back to bed, I'm in so much pain! How do I help myself? I was never into excerse, I'm very, very flexible - hyper flexible I think pt said. I'm sorry for taking all this room here to whine! This seems like a presentation more for people with desk jobs. Some of us "use our bodies" at work all the time. And that can be worse than simply sitting for prolonged periods. Would be nice if people could do different jobs or if jobs were more accommodating (rn I work a physical job and also barely get breaks for eating a snack) and I've tried looking for different work but never got hired. Or maybe the work week should be 4 days. Well 1st of all we need different transportation. Idk why it's standard to have such inefficient transportation and job market and etc etc. Either improve public transport or make standard cars half the size they are or both. Then we can look for better energy sources. Then work 4 days a week.. And the whole economy is a big mess but yeah there should be more opportunity for people to try different work well I'm not sure a college degree is as necessary as some make it out to be.. and this whole system needs to STOP REWARDING PSYCHOTIC BEHAVIOR and "punishing" creative and manual labor. Etc etc etc

Interesting, in the invisible world of body energy, we have the etheric body that is close to physical body. It said ether is the more flexible and strong substance that can hold anything. I guess this fascia would be the physical substance of ether. The ether can hold the most heavy physical matter, and it the most soft substance in energy world.

Pandiculate? More like Lat stretch. Look at the size of this muscle. It begs to be worked and stretched both in active and inactive people. It's a huge relief and you get a lot of blood flow. I wouldn't call it some magical energy. You are just moving and extending a large portion of the body that needs to do so - yes it feels good

amazing, helpful, enlightening. However, dare I say it, Mary's shoulders look just a bit slumped.

The man making the introduction did poorly by reading the introduction when he should have memorized it or he should have read it and put it in his own words. That took away from the presentation... Sorry, it's my observation

I don't think it took away from Mary Bond's presentation, but his intro WAS weak.
