@@bigbangomeganova8411 - get the 1tb one... ssds losing cache-performance on under 1tb and ps4 pro will need that performance I made the same issue... bought a 870 evo with 500gb and writespeed was limited to 480mb/s while the 1tb reaches its promised 530mb/s I dont know the exact reason though. Im too oldschool for this turbo-write- & intelligence-cache-features. 😅

Thanks for the video. Also on a regular day to day performance there is not much difference between m.2 n ssd. The only time the m.2 stands out is when individual files like 3d renderings and etc are huge in size. But for an user that's doing day to day gaming and video editing and such won't notice much difference between m.2 n ssd.

This is still very amazing for older desktop and laptop users. I got myself a 1TB version a year ago and even with my old I7 3770K games loaded very quickly. My friend also bought this recently as a boot drive and he said his old 3rd gen I5 system feels new. Now my boot drive is a WD SN750 Black and of course that is even better but I still use the 870 for older games and now that I have a Ryzen 5 5600 they work together really well.

Weird that it caps out at 4TB though, doesn't the 870 QVO come in 8TB? so what is the point? for 1TB or 2TB rather buy a 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVME. Capacity is more important if it's a storage drive. Edit: huh thought there was a 6TB model of the 870 QVO but I guess not.

I bought a 1tb 970 evo plus nvme ssd for less than these late last year. These are way overpriced for sata ssd. Even the new nvme gen 4 980 pro isn't that much more money. These days i see no reason not to go nvme preferably Samsung when on sale.

@@joeykeilholz925 Yeah there are still some use cases for SATA. Personaly I have enough m.2 slots to cover my storage needs and in a few year when I upgrade my system again there either are new ssd or much larger cheap nvme available. I think that's true for a lot of somewhat high end builds on Z490/X570 or so motherboards.

I literally say that in the conclusion 😁 but the price will go down in time, and not everyone has (enough) m.2 slots.
@CknSalad
@CknSalad 3 жыл бұрын
Techtesters another thing that doesn’t get mentioned enough is depending on which mobo you get, multiple m.2s may disable some specific sata ports or run the some pcie x16 lanes to x8 instead or even the second or third m.2 slot running gen 4 nvme drives not to their performance. On b550 mobos...it’s all over the place in regards to this. Maybe...you could even compare the Intel and amd mobos with two to three nvme ssds as a video if you haven’t already.
@imbanett0
@imbanett0 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, even the price is slightly lower than m.2 nvme. , For less important storage, I can stick with much cheaper and much larger volume HDD. For OS and games, the speed just way too slow (500 vs 3000 - 4000), I would rather replace the main drive even out of m.2 slot. If the motherboard has no m.2 in 2021, should have replace the motherboard before the drive.
@TechTesters
@TechTesters 3 жыл бұрын
@cknsalad Of course there are always more variables, but that would be part of a motherboard review (which I'm not sure if I'll do, I've got a lot of other things I'd love to do first), and shouldn't be part of an SSD review. You'd end up with hour long SSD videos talking about all possible things to consider.

I don't think so 500GB is ok... For Gaming I need at least 2TB to have all the games I want installed on a M2 SSD. MY drives on PC are: 2 TB M2 for macOS - for os & work. 1 TB M2 for Windows 11 - for os & gaming. +9TB classic drives for storage (video&photo editting, kit games etc.)

Would this work as a cheaper storage drive for video projects and games? Like once you're done working with a project on an NVME main drive and finished rendering the output, then you can put the component files on to a large SATA drive. Final backup can go on a huge HDD array. The MSRPs for the 870 are insane though, too close to NVME 970 territory.

So there appears to be a problem with the 870 series, failing after only a few months of usage. Bought mine in april of last year and I started getting bad sectors after only 6 months, at first there were 40, and then 5000+...looking around, there's a lot of people who have issues with them, they work perfectly for a few months then they start to throw errors and die out. I don't know if it's a batch thing, or one of the "covid" workarounds where they install lower quality components, but yeah.

Cuz not everyone has enough m.2 slots for all the drives that they need. And Sata drives can be disconnected and swapped in seconds to pretty much any PC that you have. Besides, why pay more for a nvme drive if all you need is sata speed for the drive that you plan to buy. I got some nvme drives (960 and 970 evos)....and I didnt feel the difference for my usecase. I got my Satadrives (all Samsung Evo) for a lot cheaper than any nvme drive.

I love this review. It's easy to get sucked into buying the new tjing even when the impact is minimal and you're paying more than wjat the drive is worth.

The MSRPs are pretty bad, and if you have an M.2 slot I'd definitely take one of those if you need an SSD right now. But give it a bit and it'll settle down, I didn't want to make a big deal out of ridiculous day 1 prices knowing this video should be relevant for a few years. Also. No plans for mug or spoon reviews :P

Hi Nada 👋☺️ I personally have a couple PC’s and a gaming laptop all featuring Samsung SSDs, one an 840 Pro 512GB, one 850 Pro 1TB, 2x 4TB one an 860 Evo (got here in Australia w/ Assassins Creed: Valhalla for just under $300 USD including our 10% GST w/ a Black Friday deal from Samsung directly) and one 860 QVL which I got for a lower but similar price. I also got a couple Crucial BX 2TB, but all perform well. I use them to store photos, some home movies, a huuuuge games library 😛 and all are still going strong 💪. I would love to see a revision of SATA, eg. SATA 4 to increase bandwidth to a minimum 2000mb/s+ up from the 540-560 limit which has been maxed out for many years now. I enjoyed the review and looking forward to more content in 2021 and the future. I would love to see more frequent videos, obviously time permitting with everyone have a busy life 😇🤯. I enjoy the format of your channel and it’s more relaxed feel (maybe it’s your background music etc) as some reviewers tend to be a little bit full on.

Question is. For a music PRODUCER and djing purpose using Mac m1 system. What is the most reliable external solution. Should i get a 2tb nvme Or the 2tb sata ssd? All i want is reliability and long lasting system. Something tells me that the older sata ssd are more reliable but i am not sure.

SATA SSD is the new SATA HDD. Same price. If you want something faster, get nvme. Costs bit more, but you get something faster. Like it always is. SATA SSD is now finally mainstraim, classic HHD only recommended for very large drives. And nvme is the new SATA SSD. 2020 at least brought us one thing positive

Why they still make a 250GB makes no sense.
@Waldherz
@Waldherz 3 жыл бұрын
It does make a LOT of sense. Cache drives usualy dont have to be much larger than that. And even a 120Gb SSD is enough for WIndows alone. So 250GB also makes sense. I have my Windows on a 250GB 860 Evo (had it in a 840 Evo in 120GB for years before, moved that drive over to my 2nd PC) and Im only usong 40% of its capacity. Cuz I only keep my OS on my OS drive, NOTHING else. Makes resets and systems waps much much quicker. Also increases the lifetime of your OS drive by a lot. My mentioned 840 Evo is still perfectly fine without errors after more than 6 years of 24/7 use as an OS drive.
