Excellent introduction to the trucks! I have a set too. One thing, the DKPs that come stock on the Meepo Hurricane are super stiff. With The appropriate Riptide bushings, DKPs are still more carvy. The Savage trucks have about 80% of the carviness of DKPs with way more stability.

Hi, you say in the video you had a couple issues. Definitely curious of what you ran into. Definitely gonna pick up a set. Thanks
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
The two issues I had were belt and hub compatibility. Somehow or another it seems a lot of hurricane owners in particular are picking these up, which is awesome, but Phil had more DIY setups in mind when he had originally designed these. However, Phil was able to resolve all the issues I had after another hurricane owner sent him like, 6 sets of drive wheels and gears that were designed to work with stock hurricane truck systems. The belts were a pretty easy problem to solve. There are a number of people that have just about everything sized out in the forums, but just about every pulley requires a belt around 15-20mm longer than stuck. I ended up buying a completely different set of wheels altogether that worked with the original tkp truck design and i haven't even tried to swap out to the other wheels because the current mix of components i have has been spectacular. As far as future mods, I'm not entirely sure yet because I got sidetracked with a completely new and full DIY build, which is going to be absolutely ridiculous. Nothing necessarily out of the ordinary, but premium components all around. One thing i want to resolve before it becomes an issue is replacing the motors as another user (Joepro in the forums and FB groups) has discovered that the stock motors are not fully battle hardened and had pretty much full brake failure after one of the magnet retention rings broke in what appeared to be multiple locations causing the magnets to shift enough to cause failure.

Nice! I'm always looking for what people are doing to these Meepo boards, they are certainly trick looking trucks. I wasn't keen on the DKP setup either, so changed them out for the riptide ones. I am a speed demon, I flog the crap out of this board everywhere it's now my main means of transport.
@BroadButts
@BroadButts Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they're super nice units for the cost for sure! After the truck swap, i was cruising at like 28-34mph average with relatively deep carving for that speed. I haven't used the hurricane in quite some time since a recent board upgrade happened and then the midwest winter struck. I've been meaning to put out an update on the gear. Hard to keep putting out content with three kids LOL

This is definitely a great board for street cruising. I personally am not a fan of doing much AT riding with it, since it lacks bindings and uneven terrain just wants to buck you off the board the entire time if you're not careful.

Ive been thinking of slapping en axtra battery on my boneboard titan, it uses 13s-4p and has 930 wh, if i do a paralell then the range would be insane, next mod is gonna be wider trucks and larger engines that don't overheat in turbomode, it will be great. Saw somebody on KZbin already did this for the hurricane.
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, battery mods are dope and i'd love to be able to claim legitimate 40+mile range even though i don't typically ride for more than 10 miles at a time. I definitely plan to do a full blown DIY in the future and i'd be happy with 25mph top speed and ridiculous AT range.

I may do a little something on that in a future vid. It's pretty basic, so I didn't think it was anything anyone would need a tutorial on, but I did a folding technique on the corners of the led strip that really cleans up the look, so that could be something to highlight.

So about the belts, did your stock Meepo belts work with the new trucks? If not, what did you replace them with? Also will the stock Meepo hubs now fit on the new trucks? Thanks, Dave
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
longer belts are definitely necessary. I can't say specifically off the top of my head what the difference in lengths are, but it's something like, 15mm longer i think for each belt. WHen i released this vid, i had to purchase different hubs in order to get my hurricane back on the road. However, Phil is constantly making improvements on these in order to make sure they are compatible with as many wheel sets as possible. I was sent a new set of motor mount sleeves that should resolve the compatibility issues i ran into with the stock drive wheels. i haven't tried them out yet, but plan to soon and I'll report back to you if i can remember.

Great vid! Can you speak a bit about how the Savage trucks compared to the Meepo DKP in terms of carving?
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The DKP's, although great for carving at lower speeds have an obvious lack of stability at higher speeds due to multiple points of articulation stacked on top of one another. Between the two, i can honestly say these TKP's are more stable at higher speeds, AND have smoother carving than the stock DKP's. Obviously bushing stiffness and tuning play a big roll in overall performance and handling, but from my time with both sets i can say that the TKP's provided me with a better turning radius than the dkp's at slow speeds and the much smoother and confident carving in the 25mph range.

How did you keep the front arrow on the base plate secure?
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if i had the baseplate installed in this vid, but i did reinstall it later. in order to retain the arrow and use the shredlights without it looking gross, i had to buy some longer bolts. I put the shred lights down first then the top plates so the shredlights mount between the deck and plate. Then and i used an adhesive velcro strip on the back of the arrow to give it some packing and prevent it from rattling. Also, the mounts that shredlights recommends for the hurricane will not work in this configuration. i had to get the angled mounts front and back.
@dajaduke1936
@dajaduke1936 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan sorry had one more question. Does the stock baseplate get removed and if yes is it difficult to remove them. I haven't taken the board apart but I can see that the baseplates for the trucks are sunk into the board. Trying to get as much info on the install as I can. Thanks
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
No prob! So the stock DKP's are obviously top mounted through the deck, but I found the TKP's would not fit in the hole the stock decks mount through, which is fine. Basically you just bottom mount the TKP's. I didn't notice any significant rise from Mounting the trucks on the bottom because the lack of a second king pin makes it about the same height with the lower mount. I was able to preserve the stock anti-sink plates which are back on the board, but I had to get some 1/4" longer stainless mounting bolts in order to get everything I needed back on the board in nice order. Aside from all that, the main thing I thing you want to know is how to get the stock top plate off, which just consists of pulling the lower king pin off and then removing the bolts to pull the top plate.

@@BroadButts I went with the meepo cyclone racing wheels. I’d like to get 20 miles or so. I’ll see what kind of mileage I get with these and go from there. Have you played with different bushings yet? I have a bunch of riptide 96a that I used for the stock trucks. I weigh about 150lbs so they might be too stiff with the new trucks. I’ll let you know when I’m all set up!

@@Captain_Barrels I haven't tried different bushings yet. The set that Phil installed on these have been really nice for my weight so far. I know everyone seems to say riptide bushings on the stock trucks make a significant difference all around. I never bothered to find out.
@Captain_Barrels
@Captain_Barrels 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried the stock bushings on the pneumatic tires but on street tires they made all the difference in the world. I used 110mm torque boards and 120mm clouds both the ride improved drastically. Small pebbles and gravel would cause a lot of instability on the stock bushings and they should but with the riptides I don’t have to worry as much.

Do you know what size bearings and belts I would need to make this work with stock wheels?
@BroadButts
@BroadButts 2 жыл бұрын
the axles on the Savages are 10mm. the stock axle diameter on the meepo is 8mm. Most of the wheels you will find are going to be 22mm ID for bearings. For this setup, you'd need 10x22x7mm bearings. They will be a 1 for 1 replacement the stock 8x22x7mm bearings. As for belt size, i want to say every belt you currently use for your stock wheels will need to be about 15mm longer. I can't remember the sizes exactly, so i apologize for not having a more specific answer for the belts.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the trucks and motor mounts cost? I'm currently on the edge about upgrading to Trampa IR trucks/mounts, but I'd also love to support a local peep out. Also, any idea if they're compatible with the stock Hurricane all terrain wheel? And great vid, by the by :) I've seen the Hurricane getting so much hate, but for it's price, you can spend that extra on aftermarket VESCs and trucks to turn it into a real beast.
@BroadButts

Hey! So I want to say the whole system runs about $530ish dollars with handle. Phil recently updated the design to allow for greater compatibility with stock wheels, so it SHOULD be compatible with the stock AT'S now. He sent me the new adapted sleeves that allow for the stock wheels to be used, but I have not given them a try yet since the ones I have on it now are just so nice lolol.

@@BroadButts Currently, no, because I'm spending most of my time tailriding, and I have no idea how they'd perform in that situation. Could they handle well? Absolutely, but at the current price it's not something that I feel confident enough about to buy without testing first. I'll probably get an aftermarket VESC and motors before moving on to the trucks (too many horror stories of Meepo components freezing up and throwing their riders), and then I'll have to decide between Trampa trucks or Savage1's.
