Hello Everyone,
In an attempt to bring the latest and greatest in plastic models, we at Andy's Hobby Headquarters are going to be bringing you more builds on model airplanes. First up is Tamiya's New 1/48 F14 A Tomcat, this is a completely new mold and is a incredibly engineered kit. This video will show you sprue shots , the basics of the build and the final painted un- weathered item.

I painted and detailed those small pieces before assembly.. the cockpit sides and nose well.. a lot easier to super detail those areas before they get glued .. the manufacture even made those separate for that same reason ..either way beautiful work ! This kit is worth the price . I compared it to a testers and monogram kit I also have and this is far superior..

Thanks for the quick build Andy, I'm just getting around to seeing this video. I always loved the "Tomcat" and Tamiya certainly (as you pointed out) engineered this kit beautifully. You and Paul did a GREAT job on the build, paint, and weathering. I've really grown to like your channel Andy, a modeler who runs what appears to be a WELL STOCKED model shop and does a great job doing demo builds on new kits and always shares a hands on review before the build. I hope in your future videos you show more of doing the cockpit. when you added some of the instrument panel to the cockpit I thought it would be hard to do the panel with suck a tight space. It turned out perfectly, way better than my attempts.

Looks like a great kit of the what I believe an early Jolly Roger version. I have built many a F-14 Tomcat kit....Mostly Hasegawa kits from way back though. They were beautiful kits. I still have a dozen or more of them. I think I need a couple of these though. Thanks for sharing and I really look forward to more aircraft videos.

when I was 10 I always wanted to fly in F14 tomcat, because of the 2 favorite cartoon SWAT KATS, and ROBOTECH. Both of these cartoon feature jet fighters similar to the tomcat.

The Iconic F-14 Tomcat, coolest plane ever. Great build but one mistake! Navy planes have white wheel hubs, I have never seen any tomcat with black wheel hubs. And I have thousands of pictures of the F-14 on my PC and in books. regards Paul.

There are two crew members in the kit. Watch again: at 1:15 at the start of the video. Sprue "F" I believe. There are two of these sprues in the kit.

What a great kit. The only thing I notice is Tamiya didnt add the wing vane. Correct me if Im wrong but I believe its present in an early Tomcat.

Hi Andy, beautiful model. Have you got any tips for how best to handle prepainted pieces? I always seem to melt my paint when it comes to gluing together. Should I clear cote the pices, then glue with superglue?

Looks like a wonderful kit to build. I just wanted to know why the "glove box " detail was left out ? When the main wings are in delter shape their is a triangle shape wing that comes out to help with the control of the plane. Each wing has one just forward of the main wing.

Even in 1:48 scale this thing is huge!!Imagine it in 1:32!!59 cm long!! I have the same version in 1:100th scale die-cast metal and even that is huge!! :-)

Although I doubt I’ll be able to find it because my hobby shop is mostly full of Revell kits (for airplanes) and the only Tamiya airplane kit I’ve found was of a spitfire which I bought for my 1st airplane build but how much does this cost. Really want it because the swept wings and I don’t think the Revell kit has the swept wings

My model kit has missing fins for sparrow missile, I cud build 4 out of 8 . Only the bigger fins in the middle of the missile is missing :-(

That is so nicely done. I always encounter 2 problems when building planes are 1. After putting all the landing gears the plane is lop sided most of the time and 2. There are so many decals that most of the time I bound to damage 1 or 2 of those small ones while sticking the rest. BTW may I know if you used the same Tamiya glue to glue the cockpit canopy? Sometimes I use superglue and the canopy turns white :(

Super glue is a big no no for clear parts, and you seem to know the reason haha. It's best to use stuff like water bonding agent for clear parts. In this case, the clear canopy part seems to be molded with part of fuselage, so the green cap cement would be fine.

Luftangreifer Yup sadly after the 2nd misted canopy I figure it out :( Now a days I use pva glue which clears up after it dries.

Yes, if you are an experienced hairy stick user this would turn out fine. Though it may be a challenge to create the soft lines of the Iranian scheme.
