- too much like map 2 last week, and gives off too many cotd vibes ++ pretty perfect imo, loads of variables to be tried out, and a unique mapping idea + really nice to see an alt car map, harder than those you usually see, but also a bit too normal maybe + great idea for a more unique "find the right path" type map, which is how all shorts maps should be. But the execution was too simple. Unless there's an insane line most people are missing ++ unique driving surface that people will need to learn. So lots of different lines will be attempted. Even if only 1 is the strongest, it'll be harder to find. Only downside is the length, it's too long Shorts maps seem like they should be more centred on multiple possible ideas for finishing the maps, whether intentional or not. It's what the secret times leans most heavily towards, and is also how Hylis mapped his maps, even if unintentional. Everyone's fav map last week was the 3 block width one for this exact reason It's why maps 2 and 5 are the best. 2 does this exact same thing, the lines could be more complicated than people think, and even if not, the lines aren't obvious. Map 5 goes a different route, and gets the conclusion of a wider variety in ways to complete the map, by introducing a surface that people don't know I also like maps 3 and 4, but shorts should aim for the same idea as 2 and 5 (so more like the hylis maps)

desert car map was frustrating but i actually learned a lot going for the AT and started enjoying it more. the last map makes me want to throw my controller through my monitor lol

You beat my record that took me 2 hours on the desert map in like 5 minutes. I actually went for left of the tree though, did see the possibility of going right, but figured it would be too tricky or slower. seems it's faster.

I love REALLY bad maps, not bonk cup bad, or shitfest bad... I mean pure simple uncalculated bad maps... Like the ones my 6 year old nephew makes on console mapper. Ones where there are so many random cuts, with no true intended route, little tricks you could find... The perfect weekly short will be where the top 5 takes 5 different routes!

Actually, the green timer is really helpful on KZbin to get a sense where the video has been cut. For example, when streamer cuts out half the map because "nothing" happened, we can see that easily in the green timer to get a feeling on how long streamer tried to beat the map, making it some sort of time seal :)

The weekly shorts has been a really great feature even as a free to play player it gives me 5 new maps to try out and everyone so far has just been so well made they all have weird gimmicks that make them unique, a trick that once you figure it out makes you smile and the fact you can only follow your own records makes it feel more unique to yourself on how you address each map. Watching streamers come up with similar or even completely different strategies based off playstyle.

Map 5 is my favorite to play after i got the at in about 50 minutes hardest at yet but gave me reason to keep hunting and limit testing. If you dont like map 5 because its a hard at keep grinding it. It’ll make you a better player

Wet road 4 is the first map going in blind I got AT quicker than granady , I’m gonna be strutting around the grocery store tonight 4 sure. Also makes me realize how much surface knowledge matters

thoughts as a youtube andy: map 1: solid map overall but i hope nadeo picks a different combo or else it will feel like "hey make a dirt wood map and it will get picked" map 2: another solid map nothing really more to add map 3: it feels like someone just took a part of a TOTD submission. add another 20 secs and it would be a TOTD map but desert. map 4: seems like air time management is the only thing you have to worry about. map 5: good idea but it seems way too hard.

You’ve noted how limited you are using the wheel, that you can’t snap back and forth as quickly. Idk if it’s possible, or if it would break any rules or anything, but if there were a d-pad on the wheel you could use to override the steering input, you could swerve back and forth quicker, or cancel your steering for a split second. I’m not sure if it’s possible, but if I were using a wheel that’s something I’d want to be able to do.

@ yes, I’ve seen that, but to do that he temporarily gives up the precision of using the wheel. Being able to keep both would be ideal.

I like the maps this week, they seem like easy to learn hard to master kind of maps, but I will say, perhaps controversially, that I think Nadeo should set the ATs, as a 300hr Andy, even maps 4 and 5 last week seemed kinda out of reach, but that might just be a skill issue admittedly

I agree with this. I'm an ice player and last weeks ice map took me just over 2 hours to get. With the previous 4 weeks of Nadeo maps, I think the longest AT for me was something like 30 ~ 40 minutes.

@ I get that, it's just my personal opinion. I get your point of view as well. I just find that if I have to grind over 90 minutes with no meaningful clue as to what I'm doing wrong, then I don't enjoy it. It's a fine balance. Example, a Full Speed map where you need to speed slide to get a good time, I don't mind the 3 hour hunt for that, that makes sense to me. It really depends on the map and the challenge around it. I guess I just found Map 5 for week 5 a little to technical for my liking.

*UPDATE* At the time of this update, I have finally got AT on Map 5. It took just under 3 hours and I'm currently ranked 98th in the World. I'm not at the level where I should be Top 100 world on anything in Trackmania. Good luck getting AT, it's a monster! Map 5 "Wet Road Race 4" is a weird map. It's pretty but the custom physics is almost mind breaking and you have to use top tier player technics to get AT I think. I understand it's the Author's right to make the map and set a killer time, but I prefer the standard physics, regardless it does showcase what can be done in Trackmania.
