Careless campers start a fire in the Mediterranean forest. Trouble making Trolls add to the flames. Tomte and his father, Claudio, smell smoke and go for help. Millius summons David and sends him to stop this environmental devastation before animals are injured, even killed and their homes destroyed.
A female Lynx peers from her den, nose sniffing the fire. Her two cubs, a male and a female, tussle. The Lynx picks up the female and leaves. The male cub tries to follow. His mother swats him away, leaving him behind. David contacts Millius. They need help to put out the fire. David, Tomte and Claudio work to save as many animals as possible. High in a tree a female eagle sits on her nest. Her mate summons David. She won't move and the fire storm is approaching. David convinces her to move the eggs to a safe place across the river. They fly away as flames leap through the trees devouring the nest. Through the smoke filled sky Gnomes appear, flying on geese. They carry baskets of water to battle the fire. Claudio sets a backfire. Tomte races flames to rescue the male lynx cub.
David seeds the clouds. It doesn't work, then just as all seems lost, rain pours from the sky. The fire extinguished, Gnomes spread out over the charred landscape, planting trees in the moonlight.
