The Newsmakers: Syrian Christians

Well if you ask California Republican Dana Rohrabacher, Christians in the middle east have no better friend than Bashar al Assad, the Syrian strongman at the helm of a bloody conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Many of those have been Christian. But during a debate over new sanctions, Rohrabacher came to Assad's defence, saying Syria is the only place in the region where Christians can be safe. And while his comments were widley criticised -- Lebanon afterall has a Christian president -- others have made simillar claims in support of Assad. Some have alleged overthrowing him would mean Al-Qaeda could more easily target Christians. But are they right?
