I’m not well studied on that size range tractor but I’m definitely interested to see more on this search.

I’m in hot pursuit of this size tractor, hope to have something this Spring… 👍

I have both a 2-85 white and an 886 international. Owned the white since 1990, the perkins motor has been with out issues. Bought the 886 by accident at a sale, it had been used hard and put away wet so to speak. I use the white as my baling tractor with a vermeer 505 super I and it works great. The 886 runs a vermeer 7050 mower and is actually a little more handy than the white. The downside of the white is that it must be converted to 1000 rpm with a spindle swap. The 886 has a potential weakness of the torque amplifier, fortunately mine had been replaced before i got it. Both great, reliable, good value tractors.

Thanks for the info - I would have thought the 886 would have been less nimble than the White.

A farmer friend of mine started running Whites years ago. He calls them cheap horsepower, but good tractors. If you were trying to watch your budget, I might start there. I find myself in a similar position. My tractors jump from about 55hp to 110hp. I would like to find something in the 75 to 80hp range as well. Good luck on your journey!!

White is definitely on the list - thanks!

4030 would be your best best, awesome tractor for baling and mowing but also nimble enough to run hay wagons. No T/A to worry about or dry clutch, and also the cab will be way quieter. If you can't tell, im a bit of a Deere guy myself😂

My Dad had one for years on his dairy, and he loved it and wishes he still had it. Only traded it because he wanted a 7410 with MFWD, also a great tractor, but much more pricy.

Thanks for the suggestion. 4030 is on the list… 👍

You know Bill.... after looking at the forum again this morning.... you need to put a Farmall H on your list & come join the cool club. 😎

HA - I have a Farmall 350, does it get any cooler than that… 😎

Been mentioned a couple times already but I'll add another vote for a Ford 7700 or 7710. A good friend of mine bought a new 7700 back in the 1980s. I ran it some, thought it was a nice tractor to operate.

Thanks - I’ll take a look at them…👍

Thanks - IH made some tough heavy duty tractors!

A Deere 2950/2955 would be a good choice. They’ve got a 359 ci 6 cylinder, and you can get them with a hi/lo transmission, like what you’re describing. Good tractors, they’ll be right around 85 PTO horsepower.

Had not thought of those models - thanks!

I have a White American 80 which I run a 4x5 2020 John Deere baler with and I like it a lot. Gets a lot done on less fuel than a bunch of tractors. My oldest son has a JD 4020 that I had to run for a year of hay and it drank the diesel, almost half again more. My youngest son has a MF 285 which does almost all of the cutting and it has pretty good power but it does us a quite a bit more than my White. The White has a 3.9L Cummins and the Massey 285 has a 5.2L Perkins, obviously the Massey has more power as does the 6 cylinder JD, which is a lot more. Good luck on your search, you have several good suggestions to think about from the comments I've seen. I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

P.S. Forgot to mention that the White is harder to find parts for, so that may be something to consider!

4200 series Massey is a good option especially a 4270. 2675 and 2705 Massey Ferguson may be a good option too

I'd be in favor of a White, but many of the other tractors mentioned below would work also.

A White 2-85 is on the list - great old tractors IMHO. Thx for watching!
@pagrainfarmer10 сағат бұрын
@@HumbleHaymakers If I'm not mistaken, the 2-85 has the same engine as my White 2-110, which is a 354.4 cubic inch engine, except that it's turbo'd on my 2-110. It's been a good running engine so far for me. The the rear-ends are really pretty stout!
@HumbleHaymakers9 сағат бұрын
@ I believe you are correct on the Perkins. My 1105 has a turbo’d 354 Perkins and it has been a very good engine.

i would go with an other deutz allis 7085 with a cab and fwd and deutz has both 540 and 1000 pto shafts built into the tractor. so you don't have to change shafts.

get an air cooled deutz. They are bulletproof and run for ever. I would highly recomend. The deutz 6275 has around 80 hp they made a star cab. I also have a early 2000's deutz agrolux 80 with the air cooled motor. Its just as bulletproof has the 1000 and 540 pto i would higly recomend. we run both of these tractors for haying

A Massey Ferguson 1085 has 81 hp pto. Just a smaller version of your 1105, so no learning curve. Has a Perkins diesel.

I'll put in another vote for Ford. A 6710 or 7610.... maybe a TW-10. They make for a sweet haying tractor, provided you can find one not beat to death. Allis Chalmers would be a 6070 or 6080. They're a decent tractor if you can find one in good shape. Not sure about parts availability.

Hadn’t considered those AC models or the TW 10, thanks for the suggestions.

I am a ford guy. So l would look at a 7700. 7710 or lower style 7600 all seem bulletproof
