The Health Care District of Palm Beach County in Florida provides an array of health services, but aviation has always been an important component of its approach trauma care.
In 1988, the Palm Beach County Health Care District board approved the purchase of a Bell 412 helicopter to get critically ill patients to trauma care in as little time as possible. It was christened “Trauma Hawk.” The Trauma System took flight and carried out its first life-saving mission in May 1991.
Eight years later, the District purchased two Sikorsky S-76C+ helicopters that provided steadfast HEMS service for the following 20 years. But with the original airframe design dating back to the mid-1970s, the District decided in 2020 to pursue the purchase of their replacement, and the next generation of Trauma Hawk: the Leonardo AW169.
In this video, hear more about the Trauma Hawk program and the massive technological upgrade that came with the new AW169.
