I watched Gout Gout a number of times last year at highschool track meets and one moment especially stuck with me. I was watching from directly behind his blocks and watching him take off he doesn't look especially explosive but his ankle stiffness was off the chart, he bounced down the track, his achilles tendons were extremely pronounced and he was so unbelievably springy.

You can also judge people by how their competitors treat them and most people seem to like Tebogo and not Lyles. It's not what you do, it's how you do it. Sprinting is a race for the mentally strong and super competitive. Any real fan of the sport knows how they all behave, trying to throw off their opponents mentally and being very happy when they beat a rival. You have to feel yourself. Bolt did it. Yohad, did it. Galtin did it. Linford, Johnson, the list goes on. Celebrating before crossing the line annoys some new fans because they don't know the dynamics of the sport.

It would AMAZING if someone would teach the younger generation to run through the finish line! It's obviously nothing new or unique to them, but it would be AWESOME to see runners always run through the finish line of Finals, so we can truly see how good they are. A collection of low times can create someone's legacy....so pulling up to showboat just taints their legacy, IMO.

Walaza is 18 and about to turn 19, gout gout is 16, they are running plus 10 times, that is why one is more exciting than the other. Walaza is older than christian miller. Miller has ran 9.93, walaza has ran 10.13, walaza isnt anything exciting or special even in his age grade, the kind of guy who makes a couple of world level finals as a senior but props up the table, e.g. the whole jamacan 4x100 team has better PB's. Fantastic tourney for him, happy for the kid, but the potential isnt special.

Running fast as a kid means nothing unless you keep running fast as an adult. We know that is nore often, not the case. Very few child prodigies make that leap across that gulf, which is junior to senior sprinting.

Gout Gout could easily fizzle, like so many promising track and field prodigies in the past. But, there is a chance he could continue to develop into a superstar champion. What if he were to grow taller and get stronger? Or, what if simply works on improving his form and his diet? I think the focus was more on his top end speed than his times at the moment.

Top end speed = potential for improvement and success in senior sprinting. Sprinters with less top end have less room for improvement as the start and running curves are the only things they can refine. walaza for example is shorter then gout, so his start is better and he runs the curve better, but his stride length is less and has less top end.

Christian miller, divin iheme, quincy wilson are probably more interesting to me, mostly because they are more likely to get the coaching needed to get rid of the raw edges.

@@Cl-dia I ran in the race with him when he ran 20.40, even though I got 2nd I was pretty far back at 21.57. The race was however wind-aided so you may have seen his wind legal times that include 20.50.

11sec to 10sec - 0.01% can make this transition.. but 10secs to 9.7 secs only 0.00001% can make this transition. (don't quote my %, its just a guesstimate and shows level of difficulty)
