I watched Gout Gout a number of times last year at highschool track meets and one moment especially stuck with me. I was watching from directly behind his blocks and watching him take off he doesn't look especially explosive but his ankle stiffness was off the chart, he bounced down the track, his achilles tendons were extremely pronounced and he was so unbelievably springy.

I remember Tebogo stans telling me after he got 200m Olympic gold that "Tebogo isn't cocky and arrogant like Lyles", and my response was and still is "Have you EVER watched Tebogo win with a sizable gap??" Dude was well-known for celebrating 10-20m before crossing the line lol
@1OriginalB
@1OriginalB 22 күн бұрын
Haha Yes, he isn't cocky and arrogant like Lyles. He's cocky like Tebogo. I wouldn't yet say arrogant, maybe next year. You can also judge people by how their competitors treat them and most people seem to like Tebogo and not Lyles. It's not what you do, it's how you do it. Sprinting is a race for the mentally strong and super competitive. Any real fan of the sport knows how they all behave, trying to throw off their opponents mentally and being very happy when they beat a rival. You have to feel yourself. Bolt did it. Yohad, did it. Galtin did it. Linford, Johnson, the list goes on. Celebrating before crossing the line annoys some new fans because they don't know the dynamics of the sport.

It would AMAZING if someone would teach the younger generation to run through the finish line! It's obviously nothing new or unique to them, but it would be AWESOME to see runners always run through the finish line of Finals, so we can truly see how good they are. A collection of low times can create someone's legacy....so pulling up to showboat just taints their legacy, IMO.

Top end speed = potential for improvement and success in senior sprinting. Sprinters with less top end have less room for improvement as the start and running curves are the only things they can refine. walaza for example is shorter then gout, so his start is better and he runs the curve better, but his stride length is less and has less top end.

@@user-ct1ns6zw4z NZ is small and places like Jamaica are small but still do well per capita but Australia has 30 million people and that's not small, it's not huge like America or China but it's far from small. Australia routinely beats the large nations and always beats the nations with similar populations. America is rich and has a huge population so that's not an excuse for failure? Nor is being rich and having a tiny population a reason for success? There's no recipe for exact success but usually logic says higher population mixed with higher funding equals more medals. When countries exceed this and go far beyond expectations then it's more down to the spirit of the team and the readiness to compete and win.
