I am so glad you found a place!! I agree, it is so hard to train without a coach or a school or a community. I am so thankful for mine and do happy you have found yours.

Congrats Mark! Like you said there is no failure when you have learned something. The wushu journey continues no matter modern or traditional, wushu is wushu. 🔥 🔥

Thanks Allen! Actually watching you compete in the Bay Area was very motivating, and helped me realize that I didn't need to focus as much on just contemporary wushu to continue the training journey. So, thanks for that! :-)

I'm so happy to see that you're back into it and that you've found a way to stay in a Chinese martial environment! The fact that it's Hung Gar is the cherry on the cake for me 🍒 Do let us know how it goes and maybe in a few months how you feel about traditional styles vs modern and if you see any difference in a good or a bad way on how traditional wushu impacts your conditioning / health, and maybe compared to modern wushu. Sorry I'm asking a lot 😂 but since I've followed the same path (modern > traditional), and have my own point of view about this, would love to hear about how you feel! Jiayou!

Thanks so much! Yes, I will definitely share my thoughts on traditional vs. contemporary wushu training and the pros and cons of each based on my experience. I'm looking forward to diving deeper and finding these distinctions over the coming weeks and months. :-) Yay!

I’m happy for you, figuring out the next step for yourself is always the most exciting part of the journey. Wushu is in my opinion an endurance race, not a sprint! Jia you

Thank you for your honesty, and thank you for giving back to Wushu! I absolutely understand the need for a coach to keep you accountable, it's why I never tried to delude myself into thinking I could just train by myself when competing, I always needed guidance to help me improve and get knowledge and experience I know I didn't have. Also congratulations on your new journey! It would be interesting to learn the differences in your experiences from modern Wushu Nanquan versus Hung Gar and Choy Li Fut, as well as the original theory/logic and martial applications of the original techniques and movements, it's something I've always wondered! 🙂

Thanks for your comment! I really appreciate it. I wish I had learned this lesson a lot sooner. I could have been doing a lot more training over the years instead of trying to go it on my own and then feeling like a failure when it didn't work out. lol. I'm also very curious about comparing traditional vs. contemporary nanquan styles. I look forward to exploring the application, theory and fundamentals of these styles. I won't become any sort of expert in the near future, but I think it will be fascinating to see what the root of southern styles is like. :-)

Thanks for the video, can really relate to this! Been training by mostly myself too for just over a year. After training with a coach in a group session, everything feels much more fulfilling. Plus progression is waaay faster haha! Good luck training with your new class!

Faster progression? Sign me up! lol. Oh wait ... I already signed up. Nice! I can't wait to dive deeper when I'm back in Hawaii! :-)
