a bunch of NFL rules are either purposefully ambiguous or their interpretations are way out of line with what the words say. It allows the officials to call whatever they want to call. @matt243

If offensive holding was enforced 100%, then every play would have a holding flag. That's why it's such a great penalty for rigging a game because it occurs on every play, so you can call it to swing a game without raising eyebrows. There aren't really any defensive penalties that work the same. But DPI is easy enough to call on most close passing plays because it's so hard for CBs to cover WRs. Not like any of this matters. Most fans would never believe the game is rigged unless Goodell admitted it.

Shit, I've even not watched some Super Bowls in recent years. The focus on money, more games, teams overseas, etc. has polluted the product. The league's best years were in the '70s and '80s. The '90s were OK but began going downhill. It's become akin to the WWF. Anyone not thinking that the betting thing isn't affecting the game is naive. The other thing is politics. The coziness with the sports betting companies and the NFL got my eyebrows raised when they announced it. Nothing good can come of it, and the NFL makes more money than God, so they really don't NEED the gambling revenue. It has happened before - if the score of a game affects the outcome of the bettin line, even if no player or ref is paid to be sure that they eithe beat the line or not, the perception of the fans will be that there is cooperation to get desired results. And most likely, it won't just be perception, it will actually happen, and it is my feeling that it is and has been happening for a long time. The betting angle just exposes is as be money-grubbing. The NFL IS the most corrupt of all the major sports. If someone wantst to say soccer, because of FIFA - I think the focus should be on FIFA, one of the most corrutp entities in the world. The one thing I've noticed as a Lions fan for over 30 years is the arbitrary penalty calling. It used to be blamed on lack of refs ability to watch every player at all times but now we have cameras. The fact that all teams see this shows we need more real time analysis using cameras to aid officials by watching every player at all times. That way officials on the field know the moment a flag needs thrown even if only the camera official saw it. Also, officials are targets of corruption and will need to be open source and public access in real time as well.

Think about this. Washington and NY had a really good chance of tieing again at 20-20 for the second time. If that happened, both teams would basically have a lock of the final two spots in the NFC wild card race. This would pretty much eliminate and end the seasons for multiple teams (Lions, Seahawks, Packers, Panthers, etc), which would decrease the NFL's revenue substantially for the next 3 weeks. Also, the payout odds for a tie, being it was the second one in a row, were stupid high. The NFL could not let either one of those scenarios happen. Tell me any different...

I’ve watched the controversies over the years, namely the No call PI in 2018 Saints vs Rams game and the numerous questionable calls in the Bengals and Rams Superbowl (particularly on the Rams final game-winning drive) just as a couple of examples. I dunno about some league-wide conspiracy to decide games ahead of time... but do I believe in what I like to call "give backs." Say the zebras blow a call at a certain point in the game. They botch it, and they know it. So they keep that moment tucked away in the back of their minds. Later in that same game, they botch another call, at a critical moment -- but it benefits the other team this time. So both teams are now "even," more or less. That's the "give back." The zebras blew a call, and ended up giving one team an unfair edge, but later in the game they gave it back. I've seen this so many times over the years, it's become almost predictable. I'd be watching a game, the zebras get something wrong, and I go, "oh yeah, team A is owed a give back," and lo and behold, later in the game, a holding penalty comes outta nowhere, benefitting team B. Pretty much every time. And I swear, some zebra crews give "hometown" calls. They subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) favor the home team. I dunno if they are afraid of having their cars keyed, or what. XD

Yes I do believe the NFL is a fixed league, controlled by bank, Las Vegas(gambling) and the alcohol industry. The Detroit Lions have had more bad calls, called against them, than any other team during the Stafford years. This slowly started after Barry Sanders retired, it hit a fever pitch during the Stafford era. Teams that have benefited greatly from bad calls going against their opponents, Greenbay, Kansas city(except in their Superbowl against the Bucs/Brady) Dallas, Pittsburgh. I personally believe the last two Superbowls were fixed. Bucs/Chiefs and Rams/Bengals. I believe Atlanta's defence were told to take a "dive" in the Superbowl a couple of years ago against N.E. Last year didn't anybody find it strange, the Rams got 7 extra plays to score in the Superbowl at the end of the game. The Bucs/Chief Superbowl was ridiculous. To many things to mention. Aron Rogers always gets the calls, unless he's playing Tom Brady. Even Mike Holmgren admitted Greenbay are the teachers pets, of NFL officials. He knew this when he was the head coach there. He realized out it feels to be the "other" team, when his Seahawks got ripped off against Pittsburgh in the Ford field Superbowl.

This season in particular I have noticed an atrocious amount of actual holding not getting called, but when it does it always seems to be in favor of the "preferred" or more popular team. Over the last few weeks I've noticed a trend where one team has lineman literally wrapping their entire arms around a guy, grabbing full jersey/pads on every play and not getting called for it, but when possession changes the less preferred team will get BS holding penalties every time a player surges towards the QB. And don't get me started on all the nonsense Pass Interference calls, where a QB purposefully lobs the ball downfield because HE KNOWS the ref will throw the flag. It all stinks of corruption and makes me not want to watch anymore. You can thank the nationwide legalization of betting and corporatization of bookies for ruining your favorite sports. Want proof? I was a Ref for Middle and High School, and 1 thing people don't understand. The ball isn't everyone's focus. For example, 6 man crew is a middle sized crew, 2 near ball(white hat and umpire), 1 on each side(line judge and headlinesman), and 2 way back for deep long plays. Each ref has different responsibilities and aren't suppose to all be looking at the ball. It's a rotation or a cycle of view and mistakes happen. If someone sees a facemask a fellow crew memeber has to challenge him to have it not be called. Forward Progress is placed on the side REFS to call it usually and its is whoever has a better view gets the lead whistle. It becomes a trust system. It's hard for on the spot judgement calls and when everything is replayed it's more obvious when you mess up. It's a hard job and even baseball umps mess up and rarely get perfect games. The low amount of people doing the job and the fact it's secondary work for most people who do ref is adding to the poor quality. I'm not excusing it, I'm just hoping people understand that it's not simple as you think and we all mess up, like in the video it mentions the raiders and pats game. Where a picture after game released shows him inbounds despite the video saying he was out. NFL isn't rigged and also....REFS do makeup calls sometimes, and REFS do mess up calls, and REFS will try cover a mistake by calling a different penalty. God Bless Yall and Happy New Year

All he did was gesture to his teammates. Pushed the team back causing the game winning FG to fall short, resulting in a tie. -Roughing the Passer against the Vikings.
