It's genuinely amazing how many games in the Need for speed franchise were basically lobotomized by EA's ineptitude and refusal to give their studios a reasonable amount of time while developing the games. Feels like literally every game in the franchise after UG2 was. "just a little more time and it would've been a 9-10/10 game" instead we had mostly meh games that fell short of what they could've been.

even now the same thing's happening. nfs got canned for battlefield, after bf's release criterion or codemasters will get 1 year to work for the game under heavy crunches and we'll get another rushed release... if we're bound to even get another title...

@@Unown275 ​I was going to say after MW 05 but I remembered even it suffered from Time constraints. e.g. rog on the blacklist, missing cars, airport and alpine areas + cutscenes. EA has been pulling this for 20 whole years now and it's insane to think about.

@ That's exactly what I think is going to happen sadly, EA has shown for 2 decades now that they have 0 respect for the franchise and consider it a non priority consistently. Every single game has suffered solely because EA refuses to give the studios that work on the NFS games a reasonable timeframe to make something solid. It's still insane to me that rivals was supposedly only made in 8 months. Can you imagine how much better it could've been if it had been given just 4 more months? or how good MW 2012 could've been if it was given enough time to be like the concept builds. If EA just gave criterion a blank check and 4 full years of development time on a new need for speed we would've probably had a game on the fame and success level of MW05 if not bigger. But instead EA is going to force them to work on another mediocre battlefield sequel, then tell them in a years time "you've got 8 months and a box of scraps to make a new need for speed also it has to have a battlepass and microtransactions!" and then when the new NFS releases and is 6-7/10 and called half baked they'll probably shut down criterion and say its performance was lackluster and disappointed them. I want believe the franchise can be peak again but I've honestly run out of hope now, we'll probably be stuck with chinese need for speed mobile till the end of time.

Man imagine if EA made an interesting choice by making another Need for speed game that is similar to the crew where you can visit Rockport, Palmont, Bayview, Tri State City and Olympic city. Would have been a complete game changer.

They didn't just rush the game but also CEO's came up with this awful "most socially connected colorful bland racing game" idea instead of the gritty, dark and detailed aspect Criterion was going for.
