I am in awe! Who would have thought laptops would get to be this good? My first ever own computer was one. That was more than 10 years ago, and the thing was my pride and joy... It also struggled to play Skyrim with more than 30 FPS, but I was happy it could even run it. I thought you needed a tower PC to play bigger and better games, but a laptop could try. Seeing how good they have become over the years makes me happy. Sad to see that Asus liked the laptop so much, they wanted it back. This is why we can't have nice things over 3k. :I

I ended up with a ASUS F15 with i7 and a 4070. Pretty happy with it considering I got it for $1050. It can get hot but raising it up a half inch or so in the back helps tremendously. Gaming laptops fill the niche for those of us who want to game a little but still have a need for a portable pc for work/school. I needed a full keyboard and a second SSD slot too. The F15 checked pretty much all of my boxes off. Sure the monitor is 1080p but I can always output to a 4k monitor when I want. They definitely aren’t designed to replace a dedicated home PC gaming set up but it’s certainly better than my 10 year old MacBook Pro. 🍻

You became CPU limited, somewhere between the high settings, and your low settings. It won't read 100% ever on the CPU, because the game cannot saturate all of the available threads, but the primary thread was using 100% of that thread's capacity. As soon as you aren't getting 99-100% GPU utilization, you are becoming (normally) CPU limited. RT does use CPU as well, but it will be GPU limited first, with those specs.

I have a "gaming" laptop from asus I only bought it because I needed something with a real video card for doing some fast CAD renders for work. Outside of that I do mainly use it for gaming but I only play lower spec and indie games on it. i've owned these kind of laptops in the past and eventually the heat will destroy them if you run high spec games. There is no cooling solution on earth that can save a GPU or CPU if they are consistently hitting 90+C that and the fans RPMs will max out and eventually cook the fan lubricant too so you end up with this hot noisy junk. imo...gaming laptops are kind of a waste of time unless a person NEEDS a laptop or only plays MOBAs or something. I would always recommend a proper PC that can last 10 years over a gaming laptop that will surely die or be too annoying to use after 3-5 years

You should prefer anything but a 'gaming' laptop, unless you need to play PC games in a hotel room every night. They have laptop variant parts with nearly identical names to the desktop ones, (often advertised using the same names) but they are completely different SKUs with completely different (worse) specs. A 4090 [laptop] is 25% slower than a 4080 [desktop] for instance. These laptops typically thermally throttle under load, driving clockspeed (performance) into the ground and fan noise up. If their watts/perf ratio were identical and a game wasn't VRAM limited, a 4090 and a 4060 would run like the same card if they're both thermally throttling.. Cooling is *that* important, avoiding thermal throttling is *that* important. End users often can't even upgrade RAM on these anymore, one or both sticks will be soldered in instead of socketed.. Because everything is soldered onto the motherboard, everything becomes e-waste as soon as any component besides storage gives up the ghost or is deemed too dated. These things very regularly have problems with their motherboards. It's the most important component of these machines, but they're constantly being completely redesigned for new devices, and they seem to always screw something up. Electrical problems, can't take the heating/cooling stress over time, etc. This genre of issues typically does not get fixed in a product's lifetime - if the warranty actually gets you taken care of, you'll get a new board with the same defect. You would assume the company will treat you like a valued customer and want to solve your problems because you bought this expensive thing. But the reality is they won't. The profit margins on these are much lower than it may seem. Most of these companies strategy is to hit as low of a price as possible and then do their best to not help you afterwards (it costs money). This contrasts with some companies who have high margins, but may have really generous, rapid, and helpful warranty, repair, and return policies. I'm not saying one or the other is correct, just understand that this is the one strategy and not the other. Expect months without your device, maybe they send it back to you without touching anything, or they send you back another busted device, or they tell you it would be cheaper to buy another one than to fix one component, etc. People always end up using these as desktops, putting them on a table they never leave, setting them on cooling pads, plugging in an external keyboards and mice, etc, because that *is* what makes sense. When the $10 walmart membrane keyboard breaks you can go get another, you don't have to fight Asus support for months or get blackmailed with repair price quotes while they have your PC because your W key died on you. Most people buy these because they are deathly afraid to put together a PC, or because they enjoy the fantasy of being mobile with this thing until they actually have it and realize it's not comfortable/reasonable/viable, or because they don't understand a computer is merely the sum of its parts "wow.. this is an [Alienware/Asus/whatever] machine, they *made* this, it will do special things in special ways." That doesn't have to be you, look into PC building, just watch some more KZbin..
@dutchozkАй бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/baGwo6apftd-mbs An example of dealing with Asus support when your device has a problem. On the unit here the microSD card slot is broken (known mobo design flaw). How does a repair house that doesn't do component-level repairs solve this? Either by putting in an entirely new motherboard (with the same flaw btw) or replace the whole unit with a refurb (same mobo flaw btw). In this situation they seemed to aim for the latter choice. Only thing is, they don't want to spend any money on solving this for the customer. So they've got two objectives: come up with a BS reason to bill the customer for the job, and have the customer not be confused when their device comes back appearing different (because it's a different unit). To accomplish this they point at a microscopic scratch on the plastic housing of this device and say the device needs a new $200 housing. When there's enough pushback on that they say well.. the screen is damaged and that'll be $100. And of course they say it's all customer-induced damage so now they aren't gonna cover any shipping costs. It turns into blackmail.

yeah 2560x1600 even higher res than typical 16:9 1440p but all games used some level of DLSS so technically none of the games he shows are running at 1440p. The problem is on a premium laptop like this you need a premium screen. If it was only 1080p people paying 2K for it would complain. Heck all Lenovo Legion laptops are 2560x1600 now even ones with only a 4060. These mobile GPU's can't really keep up with that res in many cases. I did wonder if he would try running games at 1280x800 as a last ditch attempt to get the FPS up. 1280x800 is the same res as a Steam deck after all and it would scale nicely into 2560x1600.

Content is king...this is KZbin. Yes, they could make a video about "anything", but "anything" doesn't necessarily draw in the kind of views and potential long term gains that a product from Asus (or any large company) can bring. You're being extremely shortsighted. Gaining access the larger, more profile items is a big step up for his channel. And most people don't care about how long a reviewer got to keep the item. I will take the virtual pet over the virtual anti virus, any day of the week. The laptop looks good, nothing is perfect, but yeah. I still don't know why people buy gaming laptops with higher than 1080p screens. They are more expensive, they need far more energy and performance to run them natively, and you end up using upscaling anyway to run modern games. So...why? It feels like those who buy mid tier Intel CPUs or any modern AMD, and then spend 100s more on liquid cooling for their CPU. FFS. Might as well put some red stripes on the side to make it go faster. ANYWAY, the review was good as always. The OLED screen looks great and the sound is really impressive. Well done ASUS. The price..., well over $2000 is about 1980 more than I have so it is not for me. I will continue using my i7-4710HQ and GTX 860M laptop from 2014. Thank you for sharing and happy gaming!
