My mother God bless her is 92 years old, her grandmother told her about the night of the big wind. The 5th of January was so still that you could hear people talking in the next farm. Many small children were put into skillets big cast iron pots and survived. One of there neighbour's children was found some distance from the house in one of these boiling pots.

It was definitely a wild night for Ireland, but the spirit of the Irish is unbreakable!

Eowyn was a slight breeze compared to the Night of the Big Wind. Was outside before Eowyn waiting for the dead calm as was before the Big Wind but it wasn't calm. The Big Wind hit every part of Ireland which shows how really Big it was

And then a few years later came the Great Famine. Between the Penal Laws the Big Wind , the Famine and misrule from Westminster it is nothing short of phenomenal that Ireland survived to be a fairly prosperous and independent nation. Also , having suffered much , Ireland has empathy with others suffering. The genocide in Gaza being an ongoing example. It has paved the way to follow for other democratic , so- called Christian nations. Israel has closed its embassy in Dublin in response. From what I hear and read , no tears were shed at Dublin Airport upon the departure of the Israeli ambassador!!

You're absolutely right; Ireland's history is a testament to resilience. It's important to remember these lessons of empathy and solidarity in our world today.

Great episode but the AI Imagery wouldn’t be completely accurate on some levels…. There were hardly any Black or South East Asian people in Ireland then

I absolutely agree with you with regards to empathy with others who are suffering. It is what makes us Irish a unique people i think. Which is why i stand with Israel and the Jewish people who suffered such terrible atrocities under the Nazis in World War Two, and are suffering under another attempt at a Holocaust at the hands of Hamas an Islamic terrorist organisation. May god bless and give strength to both the Irish and Israeli people, and of course the people of Gaza whose actions of their Hamas terrorist overlords has brought great suffering upon them. Free Israel and Gaza from Hamas!
