The anime took a different route. In the itachi Novel, itachi killed his lover (Izumi) to see if he if he could go through with the massacre. Before he killed her he put her in a tsukoyomi genjutsu where her and itachi grew old, got married, and had kids. Then at the end she thanked him before he killed her. Idk why the anime decided to make obito the one to kill her in the anime. P.S I posted this on the last naruto reaction because I thought it was happened in that ep lol.

The reason why he recruited Obito's help was because he couldn't take on Leaf police force on his own (Sasuke literally says this and Itachi admits it). And you think Itachi just took on the police force on his own and had Obito take on women and children lol?? Itachi canonically committed genocide, including innocent civilian men, women and children, and it's just baffling how all the fanboys are hardcore bent on glorifying him. I partly blame the show. The show could've emphasized how young Itachi was (13yrs old) and how Danzo manipulated his young traumatized mind into committing war crime (something that actually happens irl), but they decided to kiss Itachi's ass constantly.

Not sure if this was shown in the anime yet at this point. I guess it wasn't since they don't know about it. But wasn't he also the one whose body they found in the beginning of original Naruto? When I watched it I had forgotten about that like most probably, but I'm pretty sure this was the case. So Shisui was basically the first death you hear about..

As someone else said, in the novel, Itachi’s first victim was his lover, Izumi, by putting her under Tsukuyomi, in which she lived out her entire life married to Itachi in seconds, to steel his resolve. Obito did not kill her. Fugaku, Itachi’s dad, did not have the Mangekyo Sharingan either. In general, the anime is very different from the novels.

Before his beloved's death, Itachi showed her a possible happy future in Genjutsu: she became a Chunin, retired from shinobi life, became Itachi's wife, and raised their children before dying, along with his wife, at the age of eighty. As her sentient reality, Izumi took Itachi's weapon. She thanked him for allowing her to live with him, even though it was a dream. In turn, Itachi thanked Izumi for her sincere feelings for him, and then she passed away peacefully.

The two people i feel most sorry for Obito and Itachi, meanwhile Sasuke has had to witness the death of his clan and was pushed into the darkness, groomed by Orochimaru and Obito. And Naruto from birth having his life in danger, losing his parents, being hated his WHOLE life for something that's out of his control, constantly battling against the nine tails, being targeted by the akatsuki, having jiraiya die, his village got destroyed, his closes friend is falling into the darkness, was powerless when it came to saving another of his friends in Gaara, witnessed his comrades die, Neji sacrificing himself for him. *Unpopular opinion: Itachi's arc is very flawed* 1. The whole "enemy would've attacked and world war would've happened if Uchiha coup happened" reason is just dumb. Leaf suffered Nine tail attack where they lost several people, village damaged AND lost 4th hokage (the man who's existence literally got Stone village to sign the peace treaty), but no one attacked. Leaf got surprise attack by Sand and Sound village where they also lost several people, village damaged and lost 3rd hokage, but nobody attacked. But all of a sudden, Uchiha coup is something that's definitely going to invite other nation to attack the Leaf??? Not only that, Leaf losing an Uchiha clan, an army of sharingan users and strongest force of Leaf military, is just likley to invite enemy nation to attack the Leaf (they also lost 4th hokage at this point). But guess what? No one attacked lmao 2. There was a potential peaceful option at hands. Fugaku (Itachi's father) had Mangekyo as well and offered Itachi to join him to carry out "bloodless revolution" where only the old corrupt farts of Leaf higher ups will be eliminated and Uchiha quickly taking over the power.
