Excellent review. I'm thinking about purchasing one of these for landscape photography and I think for the price, this is a great lens. Thanks for the video!

Watched in June 2024 as I have just bought this lens to use on my D500. What settings did you use for the astro shots and was it tracking? All of your sample images looked nice. I am considering buying a new Nomad Tracker to try some astro. Thanks for posting. 👍😎🇳🇿

The DX AF-P lenses are ridiculously good for what they are, all three of them. Pretty much a complete set for most situations for little money, little weight and with great image quality. Throw in a 50/1.8 for portraits or the 40/2.8 for macro and portraits and you are set. At least of you are on one of the newer bodies that does fully work with this lens.

I'm planning on getting one of these for real estate/architecture on a Nikon Z50 with the FTZ adapter. It's going to be on a tripod with external flash 95% of the time so I don't really care about the f stop limitations. It's a good price.
@mrvk6994 жыл бұрын
yeah man cool! see in architecture and wide structure photography it's an unwritten rule to keep maximum view in focus so operating anything below f/8 or f/11 is worthless, people require zero shallow D.O.F when shooting architecture (generally). So this lens is great for your application! And Nikon Z50 even the just released z5 are a great choice!!!
@sloppyjoe91564 жыл бұрын
@@mrvk699 I've been using it for about two weeks now and I don't have any real complaints. I haven't made any prints off of it but I have no reason to think it won't hold up. The build quality is decent (even on my Nikon refurbished unit) and the image corrections loaded by default on my raw editor of choice. Even turning them off I was mostly left with surprisingly well controlled barrel distortion at the wide end and some extremely minimal light fall-off. I leave the default corrections on but I'm not super worried about losing a ton of quality by doing that after looking at the uncorrected images.

Ive Nikon D5300 and planning to upgrade my lens. The problem with the kitlens is only that it hunts for focus even if the focus is locked. Will I be able to use this lens and not having the same problem which I had with Kitlens?
@anasrida34544 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't you be able to turn on manual focus and turn off VR using the menus on the d5300?

Hello good afternoon! I liked your video the photos you take with the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f / 4.5-5.6G VR and the and I read in other forums that it has some limitations, what are they? I would like you to help me I have the Nikon D5200 and I have doubts about buying this lens, it is said that it is not compatible, I will appreciate your answer, greetings
@joefrancisphoto3 жыл бұрын
I use it on my Nikon D5200, and it's great. The only thing is you can't use manual focus. But i very rarely want to use manual focus with this lens since everything is always in focus anyway. It's a great little lens on this camera. Chromatic aberrations are pretty noticeable.

I was going to get this lens, but when I think about the 4.5 - 5.6 it's turning me off. I need a wide angle lens for hand held photography.
@liverpix3 жыл бұрын
The lens has VR, vibration reduction so you can handhold at low speeds.

Hi Joe, thanks for this video. Can you please point us to some full size samples? I'm thinking about sigma 10-20 3.5 vs this one.... not sure which one to get.. sigma is 200$ more expensive in store... and I can get used one for 100$ less than new Nikon in store.
@joefrancisphoto3 жыл бұрын
if you want noticeably better image quality then go for the sigma

Hi, when did you put it on the d7100 to make the AF work, do you have to set any settings or does it start already?
@fabianriechers1953 жыл бұрын
In order to fix the manual focus issues on both your cameras: On your D7200 have you already tried to assign the autofocus function to a different button than the shutter button? You should do that anyway, regardless the lens you have attached. The D5300 still autofocuses even when you enable manual focus in its menu? That would be very odd? I'd like to know. Thanks for the video!
@ThatNorma Жыл бұрын
It works perfectly fine on the D5300. Just make sure you have the latest firmware
@Superwoody244 жыл бұрын
Excellent review, I enjoyed your input actually about the Sigma because I was wondering if it would be better because of the faster speed but I need the VR so that answered that question. Also, I thought it was a bit ironic you talked about not being able to hear the P motor while videoing, and then while using your D5300 to record later at home I could hear the motor on that lens very loudly! LOL Great video

Nice. I have this lens for a while now and I tried to do some star trails with it by connecting it to my Olympus em-10 II via an adapter with an aperture ring. I just could use the manual focus of this lens. I mean...the manual focus ring wasn't doing anything. What did I do wrong? TIA

Likely incompatible with the camera. Check Nikon guide.

nice review...my only suggestion to you is, and I only say this because I have just about the same cameras as you do, the D5200 and the D7500, that you shoot video in manual focus. I have found with my experience with Nikon, which I absolutely love btw, is that the video AF is terrible. It's always hunting because it's a contrast detect AF. I found that aspect in my own recordings horribly distracting. I always, especially in talking head videos, set it to manual focus, use like f4 or f5 or so, and it looks great. I've even tried manual focus video with vintage nikkor 24mm @ f2.8, and it looks awesome. The quality of nikon video is really nice, but the AF if I'm honest, sucks. Thanks for the review, but I'm still trying to find a nice used 12-24 F4. I just think it's a superior lens.

Hi interested to know how you would get infinity focus on that lens? Thanks
@joefrancisphoto4 жыл бұрын
You can't - there are no markings on the lens for manual focusing, and no manual focus switch. It has a full time manual focus ring but is only fully compatible with a handful of camera bodies. It will still auto focus even with a body with a focus switch. Kind of annoying but it seems to always focus on what I ask it to, as most of the time everything is in focus anyway.

Nikon AF-P 10-20mm OR Nikon AF-S 10-24mm ?
@mrvk6994 жыл бұрын
Bro you have to get the AF-P version because the P version has much much more silent motor and more modern internal focusing motor engineering compared to the AF-S motor.
