There is something else no one seems to talk about. And I want to ask you two. Nikon vs Sony when it comes to TTL performance for OCF and ND filters. I used Sony with both Profoto and Godox equipment and TTL consistently failed to produce good results with wide apertures (it heavily underexposed). This does not happen to me with Nikon bodies, unless I screw my metering (user error). I currently use TTL to get an initial good estimate of flash power in unusual situations , and I then switch to manual flash for consistency. With Nikon I get almost the same results I get with a flash meter. With Sony, under those same conditions (say f/1.4+ND(-6), ISO100 and 1/125s) TTL underexposes. Have you guys seen this behavior Manny, Francisco?

nice review. 1.1 is really nice also on Z6ii. did you use AF-F and auto-iso for these videos of the girls ? what is the advantage to use wide-s on AF-S instead of single point ? i use my finger on touch screeen to select where to focus :-)
@PhanivyasC3 жыл бұрын
Nikon specifically mentioned an improvement of Eye AF in the new firmware but nothing about object detection. Being optimistic here but I believe that these issues might be fixed in the future firmware upgrades considering this is the first major update (first gen Nikon Z cameras got 3 updates) :)

The z7ii is just fine. You need to learn that each af feature is very particular in what you choose for what. I go between 3. I shoot weddings full time for 15 years, I'm used to film, SLR, and in the end shot with the D850. Zero problems with the z7ii. I'm going to wait though to see what they come out with.... 8 etc. Thougt about 9, but I'm fine with this, and hopefully they can come up with an in between 9 and 7ii without bulkiness of 9.

I hate that too, but I hit the ok button and place it on the feature that I want to focus on. It is almost like Nikon did this on purpose so that they left it up to the shooter to pick the target instead of the camera. They just never bothered to tell anyone. When I hit the ok the target locks in the middle and I move it to what I want to track and I hit BBF and it hangs on to the subject. But yes it would be nice if I did not have to do that.

Hey Manny. Amazing video. Btw did you try pressing the ok button in the wide area focus mode. I use a budget Nikon and whenever I press that, it usually focuses on the middle. Idk. It might just help.

The update on the Z6II was very noticeable especially for AF, not just photo but video it was outstanding which in combination with the low light performance its an absolute beast. I was planning on buying the Z7II to compliment the Z6II but I'm waiting to see what happens with the Z9, ive got no doubt that they are on the right track and I'm going to be stoked to see what they bring.

@gstpierre693 жыл бұрын
Manny you did a great job showing the issues with the auto area. It’s the reason why i sold my z6 for an a7riii
@DuragVince-3 жыл бұрын
So it shows it’s lagging but even you take the picture while it’s lagging and you get everything in focus...what’s the complaint here? Lol ridiculous. Oh look it doesn’t move fast enough that means everything will be out of focus and the camera sucks and it’s not on Sony’s level, blah blah blah...Child, even if the AF square doesn’t move as fast, you still get amazingly sharp and in focus pictures.
@gstpierre693 жыл бұрын
@@DuragVince- Did you watch the video and/or read my comment? I have no issues with the eye af, most of the time it works great. The only issues I had with eye af is when it was dark with a third party 24-70 2.8. My issue with the autofocus was with the auto-area not wanting to focus on things in the foreground. I know that there are work arounds to this issue but it's super annoying having to do these and it has caused me to miss many shots. Maybe you don't shoot in the same style as me, and this hasn't been an issue for you. If that's the case then that's great, I loved the z6. The ergonomics are still way better than the Sony, and the viewfinder is on a different planet. Different people can have different opinions/preferences.

The issue is that it's a non-issue on Sony and Canon bodies, which is something Nikon engineers are undoubtedly acutely aware of. Whether that's a future firmware update, a mark III future model with a next generation image processor, more autofocus points on sensor, or whatever; the technicals don't really matter for practical users, Nikon is still lagging in autofocus relative to its key competitors. But since autofocus isn't the prime selling consideration for all shooters, to these consumers, it's also a non-issue as Nikon users.

I disagree I think it is a real problem for Nikon when its competing in tough market. I haven't upgraded because of the mixed reviews on AF.
@ThomasHalways2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, you pointed to the major issue with the Z6 II: the back focus. The AF in Nikon's cameras is 'an eternal issue'. Even the firmware V1.3 for Z6 Ii does not improve the issue. I have complained about the back-focus in Nikon for years, with D500, D7000, over D7200, even D7500 and recently also Z6 II and Z50. It is frustrating for how long Nikon ignores its user and fan base. These cameras will just for no apparent reason ignore even numerous subjects in foreground and focus on the far background: trees, sky, horizon. Maybe the algorithms in the fabled Z9 will finally solve it, now that Nikon in 2020 is merely the distant 3rd in the market share. Maybe they finally awake "oops, we should have respected our users."

Hello! Please help me with opinions! I am looking to upgrade from my Nikon D5200. It's time lol, I have had it since 2014. I am heavily considering the Nikon Z6ii. I specialize in concerts and weddings (weird mix I know) - but I enjoy both. The weddings will be paying for this camera, but the concerts are where my creativity comes through. I have quite a few Nikon lenses too so hoping to stay with Nikon. Does the Z6ii perform well in lowlight for concert photography? It is typically EDM/raves that I shoot. This is also important for wedding receptions once the dancing begins. Would love any feedback as it is a huge purchase for me. As I research I am seeing the autofocus isn't great on the z6ii in low light and I care about that, BUT I am unsure if that is extremeeee lowlight for landscape / wildlife photography. I just need something that works for me, but I wanted to see if anyone would share their insights. I have 6 shoots scheduled through September alone so want to make the right choice! ( I have been renting the Z5 and really enjoy the mirrorless but want to stop renting!)
