That really takes me back - thank you so much for posting this. I left the area nearly 25 years ago but I've not been back much - my father and seven generations before him were miners at Kemberton, Madeley Wood etc. The Shropshire Star did a big piece on them in the 1950s as so many members of one family worked down one pit - Madeley Matters has reprinted it in the last decade. My late father is buried a few metres from the Nine "Men" (mostly children). Seeing some of the local pubs again was nice - my late mother's aunt and uncle ran The White Horse, The Prince Of Wales (LONG gone) and briefly The Tontine. Said aunt's own aunt had run The Tontine before her and ended up marrying a bloke who lived towards the Brockholes on Church Road, Ironbridge.

I realize you posted this three years ago, but thank you so much for doing so! My great great grandfather was John Tranter. I believe his son was William and worked alongside him and also perished in that accident. What a lovely town you live in. My great grandfather left to come to America and I always wondered why but I imagine it might have been the dreary weather there. I think if I wasn't such a depressive person, I'd live there! Thanks again!

Thank you.. I'd walked past most of those plaques and never read them. Was worth getting out in the cold for. 🥶

@@WoodsideWalker That's good times. I'm the same as I never used to pay attention to my surroundings until I started to properly explore Telford about 3 years ago. There's all kinds of interesting areas and local history in Telford.

Great video, I happened to stumble upon the nine men of madeley last year completely by accident as I was visiting madeley windmill and madeley court hotel, I managed to get a puncture as I drove back up madeley court hotel drive and just happened to drive past the church as I was looking for a garage to get tyre repaired.
