I like how, seemingly by accident, all of Mr. Koizumi's answers related to Zelda (even though he's the Mario guy). Kept throwing Mr. Aonuma for a loop.

Actually, Koizumi used to be the Zelda guy. He wrote the backstory to A Link to the Past and he directed Link's Awakening. He also co-directed Majora's Mask and wrote the entire story. In a way, he's responsible for all the major lore of the series.

Koizumi was originally the creative force behind both the Mario and Zelda series before Nintendo divided them into their own separate studios. Every time these two do interviews together, you can tell Koizumi is just itching to make another Zelda game - While Aonuma is obviously just trying to change the subject back to Mario.

I'm guessing the reason why Aonuma guessed Majora's Mask is because that game was one he and Koizumi directed together, so they probably have a lot of fond memories directing the team to ensure the game could pass the challenge Miyamoto gave them to make a brand new Zelda within a one year time span. For a brief time the Zelda and Mario teams seemed to be more or less integrated, but following Wind Waker and Aonuma's disappointment that the game ended up being a bit rushed (two dungeons got cut and the infamous triforce piece quest was included to give players what was supposed to be in those dungeons), the teams split with Aonuma heading Zelda and Koizumi (who had also co-directed Mario 64 and Sunshine at that point) heading 3D Mario, thus having two teams dedicated specifically to two different franchises.
