One of the best parts of Nioh 2 is its legitimate references to historical figures from ancient Japan. For example Yoshimoto Imagawa and Hideyoshi Toyotomi’s portrayal is pretty accurate from the paintings in the Warring states of Japan. The ost’s are godlike too.

Forget what you saw in The Last Samurai (although there WAS an uprising during that time in the film when Samurai fought against the Meiji government while refusing to use guns; the Seinan Rebellion, I think it was called, might be wrong) the Samurai were quite pragmatic when it came to war and took most advantages they could get. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who IIRC was an important figure in this game, or at least this time period, was somewhat famous for fighting with two guns, one in each hand, I believe.

I have read some comments saying people stopped playing Nioh because of stances and ki pulse.You do not need to switch stances mid combo.Also if ki pulse is bothering you there is a skill that allows you to perform a dodge ki pulse instead of r1 that you unlock pretty early in the game.Also use phantom guardian spirit for easy burst counters.Burst counters not only negate damage but also open the enemy up to multiple attacks.Use grapple on out of ki enemies.I hope this helps to get people invested in this awesome game.

Yo Afro, some mechanics from first game translate to here Most important I want to remind you is that depending on stance you do less or more damage and consume less or more ki, example If you use low stance like you were in this video you consumed less ki and attack faster but the damage is not so high If you use high stance you do more damage but consume more ki and attacks can be slow Please make sure to read all tutorials about the game. 3 essential tips. 1. Learn to change stances, high stance is high damage high stamina use, low stance is the opposite and mid is a median. Some people like to change depending on the situation, I'm midstance for life. 2. Learn to ki pulse, it's essential for stamina regen 3. Learn to burst counter, it's the best move in the game that allows for an armored stun that takes a huge chunk of the enemy's ki.

Tips (no spoilers) 1. Sometimes after you attack there will be blue light around your character if you press a specific button (it was R2 I think in the first game) you can recover stamina you used doing that attack. This can help you do a combo chain and stagger the enemy. 2. This game puts more value in blocking then you may think so don't forget to block. 3. This game's progression has stats that you increase over time as well as upgradable skills and item upgrade you can find and or buy. 4. While this game doesn't have a build-in parry system from the start you can upgrade skills that will help you parry. 5. This game will intentionally hide upgrades from you across the map so you are incentivized to explore the map. 6. Sometime there will be enemies in place you may not expect (this game likes jumpscares and in general likes to play with you, at times you may think the enemy is dead and then you get shit on) so be careful I guess. 7. Some enemies have "territory" while in their territory your stamina regen will be slowed down (their territory can be destroyed) 8. This game lets you have pets that will help you in combat (it's super dope they are super cute, and I'm not talking about spirits you can choose from at the start of the game). 9. Some enemies can evolve so watch for that (for example they can eat corpses of other enemies you kill mid-battle to get stronger) 10. As you get introduced to new characters and new enemies you will get hud option "illustrations" which are basically cliff notes on enemy and ally lore and some of them may give you tips on enemy's abilities etc. To summarize: Yes you are supposed to beat mini-boss at the start of the game, this game is overall not easy and in the style of from software game kinda like a mesh of Sekiro and Dark Souls. That is not even the first real boss "real bosses" have names and they are harder then introduction mini-boss you fought.

Just a small tip the reason you were doing so little damage was because you were using the low stance which specializes in fast but weak attacks, I recommend hitting the dojo snd trying all the different stances with both of your weapons to get a little familiar with them since it looked like you didn't wven consider or think about the stances in this video.

To everyone having problem with gozuki- Either start with or wait till you get dual hatchets Afterwards-keep tossing high stance heavy axes at this cow while retreating toward the entrace to the cemetry (where is That small roof, nearby first enemy) Gozuki ai either breaks and he freezes on the corner or he tries to get trought the gate and ends up stuck for some wierd reason, so you can Chunk him with throws without fear of retialiation

Don't forget to change stance your stance is your damage. Also when an enemy glows red, R2+circle while they're mid attack to do big damage and stun them. To change stance is L1+X, square, and triangle square is mid stance medium damage, X is low stance fast attack, triangle is high damage low attack speed.

You need to ki pulse, my guy. when you expend your stamina and if you press R1 at the exact time as you see a red bar of expended stamina get filled up, you'll instantly get your stamina back. And also use burst counters, it's preformed by pressing R2 and circle when you see the enemy about to hit you with an attack that has a dark aura on it. The core gameplay of nioh heavily depends on these two mechanics and the better you learn them the easier time you'll have. Anyway have have fun, afro.
