Well in my opinion I think like you said there should be like designated cons with 21+ or 18+. However excluding is one thing that I think a lot of furs look down upon (including myself) so maybe certain cons don’t have to be age restricted. But at the same time, there should be certain cons that had more higher age range considering that there could be a lot of “inappropriate” content. Idk that’s just me 😅

Tbh I think we should have some 18+ and 21+ cons, but most should be all ages. I have experience being a teenager in the fandom, and my local con (MFF) was a great way to express myself and have a good time. Even though I'm almost 18 now, I don't think we should take that opportunity away from other people like that, especially if we want to be a fandom of acceptance and diversity. Still, I think we should have some 18+ and 21+ cons for people who want it. What I'm saying is we should strike a balance

I think pretending like minors don’t exist in the fandom and have no place in it is ridiculous. There should definitely still be adult only cons, not everyone wants to deal with kids, but making ALL cons 18+ sets the standard that minors aren’t accepted in the fandom. This fandom saved my life when I was a minor and I don’t think we should take that away from someone else who needs it.

As someone who has been in the fandom since I was 12 and am now in my 20's, I think the biggest danger to minors in the fandom is found online. As long as a furcon has proper rules against any kink gear and adult behaviors, children should be allowed with adult supervision. You can go to a lot of concerts and events by yourself being 16+ and I think that's reasonable. I would rather my hypothetical child experience the fandom by seeing fursuits and art in person, rather than by browsing through Deviant Art or FA where they can lie about their age and see 18+ content and meet some awful people. A minor is safer in a public setting surrounded by adults and con staff than they are in a discord server that their parents don't know about. It's up to parents to look out for their own children. I also think having some cons that are 21+ sounds fun for those of us old enough to drink, or who don't want to be around kids. That con looked fun.

Since I had to go to school riding a brontosaurus I have a little more life experience. Its not just creeps that one needs to watch out for as there are adult things that adults like doing that though not exactly should be confined behind closed doors its still best for children to not to experience first hand especially since parents have different ideas of what is acceptable for their kids to experience. Its not a simple matter with saying this is acceptable and that is not acceptable. The next issue is that people who are over 21 are the ones who by the vast majority who finance the convention as they can afford to they are also the ones who run it. The cons are not fully funded by the people who buy the base membership the people who buy the extra special advanced membership are the ones who really make it happen because the con really needs that money to make the base membership as low as it is. If you check the vast majority of the people who are on the board of directors and to a lesser extent the upper staff of the conventions the vast majority of them are over 40 with just a few being between 30 and 40 and you would be hard pressed to find some who are in their 20s though there might be a couple.

As an adult who’s asexual and doesn’t drink, I can see both sides. I personally don’t want to be involved in any adult sides of the fandom because that’s not the side of the fandom I resonate with and want to participate in, but I totally understand adults who do. Sexual themes makes me uncomfortable, so I personally avoid any 18+ areas at cons (when my friends don’t forcibly drag me along), so if all cons went 18/21+, I’d fear that some dress rules would be in constant 18+ range instead of hair during after dark hours, potentially leading to other asexuals like me, or just people not as open sexually or around alcohol, feeling alienated and uncomfortable. My personal stance is if it has a designated space and everyone is consenting and of age then great, but I still want my space where I can be comfortable and still have fun.

even before watching the video, my stance (as a minor) is that there should be some of both. i love going to cons and have been to a handful, but ive also been to non furry events that had drunk people, which was honestly really scary. i think that having 18+/21+ cons will not only keep young furs away from intoxicated people, but also hopefully keep people from getting intoxicated at minor friendly cons.

That being said I still believe there should be spaces for minors as well (i would still like to join the fun, haha). Though considering the comment section I think we generally agree with this lol. I stopped going to cons and meets after 2019. The growing "frat party" and "exclusive friend groups" mentality the younger furs have burned me out. When I first got involved with furry in 2008 or so it welcomed everyone and people would do their damndest to make you feel welcome and like you belonged. Now it's all about he said, she said, throwing each other under the bus for the slightest reasons, and is generally just a toxic atmosphere that overshadows the good and fun parts. I miss the old fandom. 😢

I don't necessarily agree with that anymore as that's been mellowing down somewhat. There's a lot of new furs after the pandemic, which caused a forcing domino effect of people having to meet new people. There's friend groups (as is natural) but so far as to my perception people just fit in where they feel they belong. There's a LOT of options in the fandom nowadays. At least, that's the case here in Europe.

Speaking as a 35year old adult, I don't think all cons should be 21+ or even 18+ I love that the fandom is growing, I never had it as a kid, and I want to see it continue to grow. And if we exclude minors, it might make some of them resent the community and turn on the fandom altogether, because they have to watch something they can never enjoy or participate in for a decade. Now what I would be fine with, is maybe cons implement a curfew, "adult only hours", or maybe adult only sections and panels. Or maybe the con is open to minors the first 2 days, but then the last day of the con is adults only. I know it's hard to deal with the age gaps, but we gotta be fair to our youngsters.

Some people don't understand that if all cons suddenly go 18 or 21+ not only will cons lose a percentage of their attendees, they will lose a good percentage of money due to less attendees also meaning artists/dealers won't sell as much due to half their customers being cut off. Seen people talk about how relaxing it is not having to look over their shoulders for minors when in reality if that's the case your the problem not the minors. Also hate the fact how people say "they can wait an easy 3-6 years to attend" when their the ones who don't have to wait at all. The furry fandom is a place for everyone and for people to try to make the most common thing in the fandom which is conventions only for adults because yall can't act responsible in public.

I think the best option is a mix some of all 3. while it is good to have all ages cons because they allow people of all ages to enjoy the con and the fandom, a 18+ con allows for more mature activities and a environment where older people don't have to worry about younger people or restricting their selves or their fun. I think the same for 21+ cons, just with the addition of not having to worry about people doing things underaged to an even further extent. cons of different ages allow different kinds of fun, activities, events, more and different self expression, and less stress or concern about others and safety at the con. limiting the cons to 18+ or 21+ keeps younger members from expressing themselves, having safe spaces, and experiencing the fandom as a whole. So I say a mix of all 3 is the answer.

As a 21 year old, LVFC looks like it would be an uncomfortable experience for me (not super comfortable around lots lf alcohol and such), but that doesn't mean I don't think spaces like this should happen. Having a 21+ con is cool, though I think I'd prefer to have it more on the rare side. Too many of these cons would probably make me feel outcasted from the fandom. The great thing about all ages cons are that by the time people usually start drinking or smoking or whatever, I've already pretty much retired to my room and can choose to not be around it.

I'm personally all for having some cons be adults only. The one I go to every year, furlandia has had issues with minors sneaking in (most of these kids being 10-13), not paying for registration, not having a legal gradian with them, stealing from vendors, trashing the place, and staying well after the daylight hours had ended. This isn't only shitty parenting, fucking over the con on numbers, literally breaking the law through stealing, but it's also SO unsafe for the kids themselves, yes the fandom is safe most of the time but you never know. I think by having adult-only cons, incidents like these would go down so, so much, and give adults space to be adults without watching over their shoulders to make sure they don't do something around a child that they shouldn't.

Let’s say there’s a weekend con. Saturday should be adults only (have a hangover on Sunday where most don’t work) and Sunday is all ages (and this should apply in places like Las Vegas where it’s already mainly adults). But most should be all ages. Making all cons adults only will just make the fandom seem more like a fetish than a safe community. For myself I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, always wanted to join in the fun but in my town the community is too small to have a con. I’m 21 and barely got a dino mask to customize because I have to put my focus on college. I’d hate for young furries to not ever be able to go to a con till they’re an adult and by then more likely outgrew it. They deserve to have fun. It’s just like anime cons or gamer events.

When I meet the furry fandom(2016) as a minor I felt very comfortable and heartwarming, acceptance was great, but as time passed on the fandom begin to intoxicating me like a drug and when I already was a adult it feels like a bad place to stay and looks more like a kink, I'm autistic and thrusting someone is hard so when I unfortunately discover that a lot of content creator on KZbin "secretly" was doing basically p+rn in other places(with very easy access), I felt VERY uncomfortable, like they are other persons that I met, this make me fill a little sick bc if you has a adult content career and on KZbin pretends to be family friendly, it's disconcerting and other things like the dramas, the crazy zooprides and so. The phrase "it's not a fetish" doesn't really apply in the fandom since many only use their fursonas to practice these fetishes and erotic things and tendencies 🙍🏻‍♂️ The furry fandom helped me a lot during a deep depression in 2018, but in 2020 and onwards it started to intoxicate me with adult content and left me addicted, it caused me a lot of harm and today I'm fine and of the many "friends" I had, I only kept a few 4, I currently consider myself a distant admirer of this culture and no longer part of it fully.

Sure, we didn't have a SFW start as a community.. but that doesn't mean things cannot change with time. Personally, my only bad experience with kiddos in the fandom is purely online. Irl, they tend to be pretty well-behaved (at least at my local con) bc their parents are with them, and even then some are just genuinely kinda sweet and excited to express themselves. I really don't think all cons are gonna go this route like everyone is saying either, because I think it's important to have a balance and have a safe space for those with kids who want to go to cons, younger community members (not necessarily young kids, think teens and so on), or even just people who want to attend a con without seeing peens everywhere LOL. I also think people forget that some furries in the community have their own children now, so it kinda sucks that some of ya'll are barring them from their community experience as well just bc they have kids now. Ultimately, this is the con's decision and I respect whatever they think is best for them and the local community surrounding it. I love the idea of a 21+ only con tho, esp in Vegas due to Vegas being an adult friendly city anywho with all the drinking and such haha.

I might be uninformed as I've recently turned young adult however while I think there are some cons that are okay being 18-21+ and make sense depending on what's there, where it is and other factors I think just kind of excluding minors is a good thing. Speaking from experience, trying to fit into groups and communities when a lot of them have 18+ policies can really feel alienating... and considering the fact that every easily impressionable kid is going to jump on the "Furries are the worst, they should all die!" hate train then if younger furs aren't even accepted by their own community they quite literally have nowhere to turn to. 18-21+ makes sense for some cons but I definitely don't think all or most of them should have that policy. I also fear that if cons start being 21+ then the amount of people doing sexual things there and way more risqué events and shops will pop up, with that comes more unwanted groping and touching which we know everybody loves at fur cons. :P

I went to a furcon this past weekend. They had rules in place for adult only areas, but security was so relaxed pre-teens walked right into the 18+ sections. Also the dealers den art was VERY close to adult themed, and minors were able to walk past it no issue. It feels like the regular con furs HATE there's rules now and are pushing the envelope just to spite the people in charge.

Insurance and more draconian laws forcing furcons to be more adult. But we NEED the younger furs to come in, get hooked, and later on become the new old guard as we age age and cant work the cons as staff anymore. So if we can still have furcons as open and all ages while any adult stuff is gated away it should be okay. Heck our con finally did a night market and OH an was it spicy, busy, and chaotic.

As i brit i still get caught off guard at the under 21 bit. When i turned 18 legal was allowed to buy alcohol tabaco get a and was fully open to the law. First thing i did when i got my photo id at 18 was walk to my local shop and grab a ready meal mac and cheese and a bottle of alcohol and just sat watching cartoons. (I had been drinking on special occasions since i was like 12) Now as 24 year old adult. I sit on my sofa in my apartment watching cartoons and have a drink every now and again.

I'm a furry and a mom, my son is eleven currently and has already chosen his fursona (how a mouse and wolf birthed a protogen I'll never know) I say all this to say that even though I'm raising a young furry I still don't feel like the party atmosphere of a convention is suitable for a minor. There are too many situations that can and do turn sour due to a minor being around needlessly.

I think the major cons such as MFF, TFF, AC, etc etc should be for everyone, and of course there should be dedicated ones for people over 18+ and/or 21+. A lot of the fandom itself are children, and they want to meet other furries as well. So these cons are great places to meet people, i just think there should be some that aren’t for kids. Setting the norm of every con being 18+ will cause the fandom to decrease in people and start making it seem like kids aren’t welcome at all. Even though the original meaning of the furry fandom is finding an interest or connection to anthropomorphic animals, which is SFW *for the norm*. And like what MFF does is give designated badges to minors so sellers can be more aware.

There should definitely be some adult only cons here and there but I think we should keep most cons all-ages as they currently are. Maybe with adult only events later into the night hours. I think there's room for both while keeping a good balance of fun and safety.

Another plus about Las Vegas than most other fur con cities, Its usually a fairly cheap city to fly to as many airlines use it as a hub and a lot of low cost carriers fly to it, spirit for example. So you might be able to fly to a fur con for just a couple hundred bucks.

At the airsoft arena I played at, kids under 13 had to be accompanied by an adult, 13+ had to have a guardian's permission and 18+ just had to sign a waiver. I think it'd be good if they did that for most conventions. I think FWA is smart because they have it 18+ after 9pm.

IMO most cons should have kids and the cons should be 18+ in general and parents or legal guardian for minors to make sure you can keep the fur con family friendly. But I think a few cons should be 21+ like in las vegas, Miami(or any fur con in Florida) and Atlanta and near Chicago only because these places well know for parties, drugs, booze, gang violence, sex and I don't want minors getting into trouble with things they shouldn't be doing.

Cons I've been to are 18+, simply for more technical requirement levels when hiring the convention space I think. I think it's been good that way. Yet almost all events and areas are still like wholesome sfw with fitting sets of rules, so it's not even much about such aspects. The bar ofc has drinks tho.

I would say majority of cons, especially stuff without the size or resources of a FWA, AC, or even EF should be 18+ with more smaller specialized 21+ cons. I think LVFC paves a strong path forward for the future of cons.

I think having two of each con with one being all ages and the other being 18+/21+ would work if it wasn’t for the different schedules. Since you’d have to space them out to where they’re not interfering with other events which I think would make it harder. But ether way it sucks being a minor in the fandom with all this happening since I want to try and go to a con next year.

having been a furry most of my life the thing most new furs don't get is this was never really for minors and its always been gay accepting, kinky and weird its gotten way more mainstream and hence more minors and has mellowed out in a lot of ways AC having to do a lot of that trying to get it into the mainstream by presenting a kid friendly space I kinda disagree with that approach in hindsight but its what happened but I do think there should be 18+ cons like personally I don't really care but a lot of people want to be weird and kinky so I think it best if some cons allow that and others don't like trying to deny the sex aspect of furry is just absurd its a big part even if some furs want to pretend otherwise its always been a huge part of furry.

The idea of furcons with adult only locations seems a little ludicrous since everyone should get the chance to attend a furcon. Having said that, having some furcons being for adults only is alright because some people just don't want to deal with kids. I'm sure others would also just like to have a chance to party hardy while they are there too so making it 21+ only also makes sense. There are many factors that play into a furcon being whatever it is since the location and the public's opinion help with the decision of what will be going on that sets said restrictions. After looking at a couple comments too, having more restricted furcons I can agree with them that it shouldn't become a common thing otherwise it just appears to be more of a way to create a furry frat fest.

Meanwhile in Germany mostly cons are 18+ except for maybe small cons or private meet ups cause we have some pretty strict minor protection laws like a legal curfew for minors and you can get in so much trouble for child endangerment here. In fact I can't name one con in my area that is all ages. Minor furries usually attend either local renfair type events or public city fairs or tag a long for a furry walk (my local group still requires a legal guardian to join though for...well legal reasons)

my main worry is that most adults dont care about dinomasks but kids LOVE my character and my dinomask fursuit. Its fun to interact with them and take pictures and feel like one of the "cooler" fursuits, but without kids there who actually care and want to interact, I feel like it will be more boring and lonelier for me cause adults really dont get anything out of interacting with my dino mask fursuit or even really care that Im there. I may as well leave it at home. I think there needs to me a mix of events. There should be 21+/18+ cons and there should be all age cons. Its like how some concerts don't allow minors. The adult activities should be allowed no matter what you do or how you complain some in the fandom just want to party at cons and I think making a separate event series where that's allowed is a good idea. Hopefully as more pop up it will decrease the number of "incidents" at the other cons.

I think some cons should be 18 or 21+ but not all of them. It would take away a potentially amazing experience for younger furs if they are all for adults only. And would solidify the views of some people that minors aren't welcome in the fandom. However, i also think there sould be minor only cons like maybe they only go up to 16 or 17 for example (with acception to any parents attending with their kid). This would potentially nake a safer or more comfortable experience for some younger furs and could be a great way of easing them into conventions or to find out wether they like them at all but in a more comfortable environment. It could also help younger furs to find other furries that are more in their age range. And the adult only cons can be good for adults to be free to do adult things without things like time restrictions :]

the problem with all age cons is that the inclusion of minors exclude fetishists and kinky furs, even though the furrydom and bdsm community is intreconnected. furries have historically always been kinky and having events inclusive of kink is nothing but good. of course there should still be all ages events and cons, but i think the "im a minor ACCOMMEDATE ME" culture has taken overhand. the amount of minors constantly making fun of babyfurs, diaperfurs, fetishists is anoying. who are they harming? no one. ofc not to say *all* minors are puritans, but its certainly a trend.

Because as good as 21+ cons are for some people they don't do as well as all age conventions. Don't get me wrong the few 21+ cons do super well but the age all conventions overall have better attendee rates, make more money and are just a better experience for everyone to enjoy.

Pretty much all furry conventions in Europe are 18+. These are events mostly attended and run by young adults who're eager to party and socialize with likeminded people. Unlike other "nerd conventions" they're all non-profit, so they don't have the financial incentive to make it into all-age spaces and attracting sponsors. So it makes sense that the conventions end up being adult-only spaces. So I'm curious why the standard in the US is different, that most furry conventions actually are all ages over there.

Adults are typically going to enjoy the adult stuff and others are going to enjoy family friendly cons. Both types can host all sorts of events & games & art that are fun. Remember kids & teens are a integral part of the welcoming community eventually growing up and carrying the torch for future generations. I don’t want it to paint a bad picture of our fandom, since so far she’s been supportive and seems to understand it! Although many 21+ cons may be cool, younger furries like myself need their own cons so that they can still participate in the community, although these cons would need to be slightly more curated, but for the most part from the quick looks from the start of the video, not much has to change. I wish we did also have 18- cons with heavier staff supervision so that us teens can connect with others without a parent hovering over our shoulders at all times, preventing us from meeting each other based on our parent's bias.

America having different laws and restrictions for 18 and 21 year olds confused me for a while. It took too long to realise why it had to be 21+ when there aren’t any differences between 18 and 21 year olds. When you’re 18 you should be an adult. Having laws around what you can/can’t do feels insane. (But for legal reasons I do support *some* furcons being 18+ and 21+, if peeps start treating 18 year olds like adults then the 21+ can replaced with just 18+)

I mean, if it's nessary it would make sense especially if the cons are in very far away states like Texas but 21 i think is a bit extreme, make it like 17/18 which is much more considerable, but l think it won't hurt that much if they do 21 cuz most furrys probably have like 1 or 2 High skilled jobs already, but they do should consider like: "if it's a inland State, 18, if it's border states, 21" so it's friendly for both age groups :3
