Forgotten Realms History

Күн бұрын

Waterdeep Nobility differs from Nobility other places in the Realms.
This time around we take a look at the history of Waterdeeps Nobility, its rules of acceptence, and what special rules apply to those of the noble class.
Warning: Contains a potensial DC15 Lore roll spoiler for Dungeon of the Mad Mage. Internet Points for those who can spot it :)

Thanks! I think the variety of characters & voices really help the world to breathe. We cover a LOT of statistics/numbers/rules, and I really think that the more we inject that with personality, the more digestible it is.

I like how gold coins are casually called "dragons" on top of being actual gold coins which represent money. This level of honesty is one of those things that define why high fantasy is most important today. Probably more than ever.

Question: During the Neverember's reign when titles could be traded or bought off, what happened to those titles? When the new open lord took power did these traded titles go back to their original owners or are these "new" lords deemed lesser nobility?
@ForgottenRealmsHistory
@ForgottenRealmsHistory 5 жыл бұрын
Laeral Silverhand reset everything once she got into power. The Rank of Noble does not actually grant them land or property, so this remains in the hands, but the "new" lords simply became rich merchants. While the old lords retained their Nobility, but would be poor nobles.

@@ForgottenRealmsHistory How that doesn't cause signficant unrest amongst the rich mercantile elite of Waterdeep is beyond me. You'd think there would be way more political intrigue and internal conflict going on in Waterdeep

@@DaHuntsman1 holdings had while they are had not invested in goods is a oddity often audited. The sake of status is for the sake of governance so as to maintain standards mainly. The idea being that there is ever the option of expanding from Water Deep proper be it north, south, east, west or in-between.

Where do you find all this information? I have been struggling for weeks to find anything significant about the extinct houses of Waterdeep as it interests me (particualrly for an upcoming spin-off of Dragon Heist). Any information would be greatly appreciated
@ForgottenRealmsHistory
@ForgottenRealmsHistory 5 жыл бұрын
So - Extinct houses, here we are talking about Deepwinter and Maernos along with Shadowdusk, Gildeggh and Zoar Deepwinter is talked about in City of Spendors (2005 version) but very shortly. Mentioned to have died out in the Guild Wars. You can read more about the Guild Wars in the above mentioned book, but also in City of Splendors (1994 version). Maernos is simply mentioned that they died in an Amnien Plague in 1345. - If you check out Lands of Intrigue box set, they mention a Talona Cleric who was part of the Circle of Six, who set of a plague that he himself fall pray to. This is the plague that the Maernos died from. House Shadowdusk you need to head into Expedition to Undermountain (2007) where they tell the story of what happened to them. This is further backed up in Mad Mage, where you have a more "currently" ongoing with them. Gildeggh and Zoar both fleed south, and are existing Amnian Houses, who are in with the Shadow Thieves.
