I like the way Thoreau put it. "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not when I came to die discover that I had not lived. I agree that there is something in us that knows the potential of our life and tries to lead us to fulfilling it.

"And what is right view? Knowledge with regard to stress, knowledge with regard to the origination of stress, knowledge with regard to the cessation of stress, knowledge with regard to the way of practice leading to the cessation of stress: This is called right view." Digha Nikaya 22

I'm not sure discontent is the right starting point. It's a negative fuel, and may hinder the realisation that we are already enlightened. If discontent is considered the fuel, we create striving, longing and suffering. Nothing is missing. Seeing and experiencing this, is the trick ... perhaps :)
